Is this billy guy a real person?
Billy, this is far from and EX-JW alternative church, or anything else. If you don't want to discuss any doctrine, than why waste our precious eyeball moving back and forth muscles with your paragraphs.
Seriously.
ok pardner...this is it, this is your chance to show how good you really are.. ( cue western music, tumble-weeds and whistling...".
here are the ground rules, should you accept the challenge.. 1) choose one topic.. 2) strictly ahere to the "criteria for truth" presented at the "god's word is truth!
" district convention.

as a little background - i was born-in to being a witness, back in '79, in detroit, in mostly black and poor congregations.
baptized when 10-ish, stayed around, was on the fast track to ms, but faded when i moved out at 24ish.. there was a combination of a few things that got me on the road to "freedom" from the cognitive dissonance that kept me "in the truth" for so long.
the main thing was, being an artist and studying marketing, my thinking was patterned to constantly question if i was doing something "correctly," as constant improvement and questioning is what facilitates artistic and mental growth.
Great opening post. Hope you are able to stick around and contribute to the community. Alot of people leaving are scared, and have no idea what is possible if they free their mind up a bit.
Welcome.
i have a close family member who is a pro in using shame to try to make me feel bad.
they are coming to stay at my place soon and the issue of me and mrs hoser not attending/ doing field service will come up no doubt.. i need some advice on how to deal with this because whenever i deal with these relatives they make me feel worthless.
it is probably part because they are jw's and jw's motivate by fear and guilt.. .
Hey Hoser,
Sorry you had to go through that, but I am glad you stood your ground. Do you mind me asking what happened? Were they coming specifically to try to convince you of something? Once they saw they couldn't they just told you they were leaving?
Nuts.
so about a few years ago, thanks to this site i became convinced that everything that the jws have been saying is a bunch of nonsense and that i shouldn't worry about it.
it gave me some comfort, since there are several things i disagree with when it comes to the way one has to live in order to be a witness.
however, this business with the un attacking the vatican seems a little too much like what the witnesses have been preaching about to simply ignore:.
Gold C, you have to define"attacking the Catholic church" on behalf of the UN. If the UN was outside of the vatican with a few tanks, or pressing them legally on some cause, then I would say lets talk.
They are not.
They simply stated they believe the Catholic CHurch needs to do a better job of protecting its members from predators and abuse. NOTE......the censure had NOTHING to do with religion, but only with a church policy that has done great harm in recent decades.
How in the world could this reasonably relate to turning against all religions on the planet and destroying them?
hello friends, .
i would like some advice from those that are inpartial, and are familiar with the teachings of jw.
i studied with a wonderful jw couple weekly for 3 years.
Impala,
I can't add much that hasn't been said, so let me share something personal.
Me - Raised a JW from 2 years old. I served in the congregation, pioneered (90 then 70 hours a month in door knocking), served in foreign countries, etc....
Recently, I decided once I went further into the doctrinal rule regarding refusal of blood transfusions, some blood products, and some medical procedures involving blood.....that I was WRONG for believing it. I shared it with a couple people, and I was almost disfellowshipped JUST FOR TALKING ABOUT HOW I FELT. I am not kidding.
So I shut up about it, and stopped attending. I disagree with many other things now as well. I have lost friends (who simply know I no longer attend meetings), because I am considered "weak". Unless I come back and change my views, I could be disfellowshipped for a variety of things.
celebrating my toddlers birthday
accepting a blood transfusion
publicly disagreeing (even respectfully), of the faithful and discreet slave.
Voting (yep......voting)
Talking with disfellowshipped people (for real.....this one is the easiest way to get kicked out)
Just TODAY (I am going to write another post), I spoke to my mother, who kind of breached the subject of meeting attendance. I was careful about what i told her, but the short story is she started crying, said the blood of my wife and babies would be on my hands if I didn't turn back (sincere plea, not a curse), and shejust left my house. She even suggested that by not attending meetings, I had "disfellowshipped myself".
Most JW's are good honest people, and are probably not very happy about the more dogmatic and unloving principles they hold to.
My advise, is not to approach them like they intentionally witheld information. My advise is to pick a subject (blood, voting, birthdays, shunnign for not falling into uniformity of thought), and study it. jwfacts.com is 100% accurate, but do not tell them where you got the info, because it will immediately be dispensed with. Then, tell them you were told some things, and you wanted to run it past them because in three years they haven't mentioned it. Be honest, and expect the same honesty in return.
I hope they will remain your friends afterwards, but I would emotionally prepare to possibly lose them.
According to him there would be "no need for the act of reproduction"......finally allowing Brother Burton an excuse for his masturbatory obsessions.
Or else this is just Satans media and obviously that isn't what happened because we GREW alot since then.
has anyone ever thought of copying & pastings all the comments & topics from this site...to see what folks are really thinking.
delete names.
wonder how that would effect them, to know, folks are sitting there & not really believing all the stuff they say.
They already know. They just don't care.
just thought of another question that could start someone waking up.
you could say something to the effect of, "i was thinking how if we were to come across a person in the ministry who asks us how luke 21:8 does not apply to jws in light of the comments such as the ones (quoted below) how could we respond?".
or you could say that someone at work or school presented you with the awake quote and said luke 21:8 proves jws false, then you could say you need help coming up with a response to him.. luke 21:8 .
Why dont we have a "best of" section for quotes that are being mined. You know, the less familiar, but just as batty things everyone tends to find here.
Maybe a hashtag or something? #realwtquotes or something like that. I don't know.
.
in case some are interested and can't find it...... http://debatelive.org.

Doug I don't think you understood what I said. My point was that Ham acknowledged that many if not most christians (JW's included for sure), believe in the age of the earth being for billions of years and a non literal rendering of Genesis.
His arguement was that for the bible to be accurate, you HAD to believe the earth was 6000 years old.
I think that is an interesting reasoning point. If the bible does not allow for anything other than a young earth view.....it simply has even more to answer for.
See my point now?
what made you realize it was time to go?
i've been having health problems for the last few years and instead of any help, i'm listed as spiritually weak and of course associations is only my kids and husband.
all the good jw's have moved to other congregations and are doing well.
^^^^^^Well said.
