I would look for a total rebranding. Not just a sign, but I think the magazines will be consolidated into one leaflet with JW.org on the front. They need to get away from the word "watchtower", and I think they know it.

You guys are overthinking this. Currently the local elders make a recommendation. It is signed by the dervice comitee, then given to the CO. The CO pretty much always signs it, and it goes to the branch. The bracnh rubber stamps it unless there is some kind of red flag. What makes a red flag? Damned if I know.
Now, the elders will no doubt still have input, bu the CO will just make the call, and send it in. They already know they are just rubber stamping what the CO says, so less work back east.
This does not affect liability, it does remove the decision itself from being the elders.
Very small cultural shift for all intensive purposes. Consolidating more decision making above the elder level however, is always interesting.

Well the branch is very direct in saying what needs to be disgusting. With Satan in opposition to God.....you are certainly to "loathe" Satan. But then comes the equating of apostates which are narrowly defined, as tantamount to Satans cronies and the people whom he uses to get your goat. So by the transative properties of disgust......you are now disgusting.
Blood has also been a succesful thing they have found "disgust" in.

So the regional director that visits the halls every 6 months (with a sub sometimes in there for good measure), is the one that will now hire new assistant managers to run the various shifts at the local store. Hiring and firing done with an HR rep, instead of by the store managers.
Doesn't seem smart to me....but when you are concerned about the level of individual you are attracting to the position.....I guess you make bad decisions.
On the good side, perhaps this is in response to those halls that need elders, have a few guys running the show, bt nobody under 55 is even looked at and there is a buddy or family system in place. On the bad side, its just one more consolidation of power.
i'm considering resigning as an elder.
i'm not planning to fade or stop as one of jehovah's witnesses, just stop serving as an elder.. i have responsibility in the congregation and in circuit, district, rbc, etc.
and i'm completely exhausted.

I don't know if there was much I can add. I was not an elder, but lets just say i was a high profile MS, with more responsability than usual, and essentially served as an elder and then some in a foreign assignment.
The idea that you are important and useful is an important one. You and many of us tied that in to our serving the congregation, which lets face it, was 90% dummy work on our part. How much REAL sheperding, REAL help was given? Not because it wasn't in our hearts, but because of what we thought it meant.
There is no way to maintain status and step down. people will immediately treat you different. It happens at all levels. So make peace with this and you will be happy. Regardless of wether you want to continue as a JW or not for the sake of what you feel, good or bad, you should know that you are not REQUIRED to do anything. You can simply say you have decided to not serve as an elder currently for personal reasons. You already know they will meet with you, but the nice thing about being the big dog is this......someone will want your spot. :)

I have been to south america, and I am totally curious. Only problem is finding a proper group, where you won't be taken advantage of. It has to be mixed correctly.
I saw that and am very interested. I'm not really a drug user (I vaporize once every couple of months), so it might be a pretty big jump. I don't even mess with mushrooms.
