  i know there was a leak a few weeks back, but this really does seem to have come out of the blue.. the anomaly was the original decision.

  it clearly had no basis in law or the constitution, and was a flimsy, ridiculous ruling.

  Abortion should be safe, legal and rare, which it clearly wasn't. But the only issue is whether it was a legal right under the constitution at the state level, which also, it clearly wasn't. This is correcting a previous piss-poor decision.

  It shouldn't be used as lazy / stupid birth control or relationship-retaliation for Springer-show-wannabes.

  It won't happen, they are controlled by the left and the left are currently in power and things are already bad enough without them making things worse. So the protests and riots will be postponed until the next conservative president is elected and then they will suddenly remember and be outraged about it.

  They also have a messaging problem because they "sold" Roe vs Wade being overturned as conservatives banning abortion ... and yet it isn't banned, is it?

  Simon, I get your point, this is your online home and being respectful is your number one policy. Taylor was not at all respectful that day, even Taylor agrees with that now. Sometimes a second chance is warranted.

  And yet their public posts, trying to rally a mob to retaliate, are still there. So they don't feel so different that they will actually do anything meaningful ...

  Do you not imagine that people like this haven't perfected ways to be manipulative to get what they want? You give them what they want, but they don't change or do anything.

  But what freedom of speech and expression would Taylor have trampled on if she asked you politely to modify pronouns directed toward her?

  Again, step back further. When do people's pronouns typically come up in any discussions we have? What have they todo with this topic? Never, and nothing. So why even ask?! If you want to take part in a discussion, take part as a regular poster. Don't arrive like the Cool Aid man and then complain that people treated you differently - you forced them to!

  The majority of people on this site are anonymous. All we know about anyone is what they tell us, and if someone says they are "he" or "she" that is what people then use. That's all they had to do, but they didn't. They wanted to make some LGBTQ issue out of nothing, for no other reason than to be disruptive.

  Also, you don't have the right to say anything you want on this site or any site. That is not how freedom of speech works.

  Yes, my own integrity and self respect. I gain shame of supporting an ideology that harms people. Not just the silent voices: rape victims, women who can't compete in sports, abused kids, but also in 10 years we'll be knee deep in lawsuits from these same people now demanding they be changed demanding that they were damaged by the changes they demanded.

  I think the "health care" industry have just hit on a way to monetize the mentally ill instead of treating them.

  Q: Can I self-identify as a Chinaman? Maybe get some surgery to change my eyes? Or how about if I want to be a black man? Can I wear blackface to help me transition?

  It would be way, way easier for me to become a Chinese man or a black man than to become a woman. But I suspect both would be considered offensive and rather silly. Why?

  I don't know anything about this "Taylor" person other than that they chose to come to my site intent on causing trouble and then attempt to spread that on Twitter. So don't tell me they are a lovely person and I've misjudged them. They may be strategically nice to you to gain your support, but if they have been doing bad things to people for many years I don't put much value in it.

  I self identify as someone you each owe one "meeeelion dollahs" to. Please don't mis-lender me.

  If it was simply "use this pronoun" it wouldn't be so bad, but we know it doesn't stop there - that's just the "gateway drug" to crazy land, where people want to go into ladies washrooms and ladies prisons (rapes happen in both) and elbow women out of sports.

  Sorry, I like women. I'm not playing that game. Mental illness should be treated, not rewarded. Crimes should be punished, not excused.

  But it doesn't even stop there. As it's continued, it clearly has increasingly strong ties to pedophilia. Again, I like kids, I don't think hey should be sexualized or subjected to gross indecent behavior as happens at the mis-named "pride" parades (at this point, it should be "shame"). It seems like they've even elbowed out gay people and will undermine all the acceptance they have built up over the last 5 decades.

  So no, I'm not going to use someone's incorrect pronouns unless they actually look and act like a lady. I use she / her for women and girls. Not morally debauched men who threaten and abuse people.

  Transphobia is up there with Islamophobia, both extreme weaponized outrage for political purposes against justified concerns. Maybe we could organize to put both groups together in some desert and let them fight it out? I see a hit reality TV show ... Drags vs Jihads? Trans vs Imams?

  Am I cancelled yet? LOL

  Random thoughts on the Jubilee in the UK

  saluting the flag was something not encountered very often here in the 1970s uk, in fact that kind of nationalism or patriotism was something i'd been warned about as a young boy, being brought up in the jehovah's witnesses from age 4, through meetings and the publications.

  at some point, i don't know when, i decided it was more american, whether rightly or wrongly.. but even so, there was a large black and white photo of our entire school in panoramic format right outside my classroom on the wall saluting the flag, and i think this was the 1977 25 year jubilee of queen elizabeth ii.. now as a young person attending a fairly religious school in the 1970's, you were used to "making a stand" for things, letter in hand first day in a new class, and being ushered into one room or another to avoid religious assemblies and other xmas, and other seasonal celebrations.. one day the teachers, in their abundant wisdom, stood myself and a younger witness in the corridor right outside the assembly hall where the children would filter past.

  every second or third child that filtered past would ask, "why are you standing there?

  One day? We did that every day in our school, in both junior and high school.

  I remember one day a woodworking teacher came past and told the teacher "guarding" us that he needed us for a job. When we got to the woodworking room he told us he didn't really and we could just mess about - "has to be better than listening to that assembly crap eh lads?!". Top teacher.

  Nothing about the flag ever came up that I can remember. I doubt any of the kids would know what to do, not just the JW ones. It just wasn't a thing.

  I remember the Silver Jubilee though, I was in junior school at the time and we all got a commemorative coin. I wonder how many still exist and whether they are valued enough to buy a mars-bar, a packet of crisps and a can of pop? ... which is what I think I did with mine on the way home :)
