I don’t think the free tier patron thing was his idea or even his choice, it was a patron wide thing

Patreon as a platform and concept is in decline - their valuation dropped something like 70% and that doesn't happen if you have a solid business. The era of free money sloshing around and people being given money for dubious "creativity" is over.

They are trying to artificially inflate (and retain) their user counts.

So a combination of a lazy creator who regularly fails to deliver the promised "perks", who has driven a lot of supporters away with his abusive behavior, using a platform that itself is in decline?

I means it's time to get a real job Lloydy boy!

in september he started at 457 patrons, did his whiny begging fest and peaked at 478, but then dropped down to 439 at the beginning of october.

as of this moment (nov. 6), he's at 427 paid members.. so, where do you think he'll be on december 2nd?

Why even mention a viewer paid for all of it and that he’s more than happy to oblige?!

Lloyd lies all the time about his finances. His trick is convincing these wealthy backers into thinking he’s about to close up shop for good.

These things go together - the first is done to suggest that other people could do similar things and put their hands in their pockets to dig deep for a special donation.

Hey, you might even get a mention if you're enough of a schmuck!

And anyone donating money thinking that it does "something" for the exJW community and acts against the WTS in any way is as much a deluded fool as they were when they were a JW believing they'd be immortal.

All they did was drop a t ... you're not immortal, now you're just immoral (yes, I'm judging anyone who enables behavior such as his).

i been reading quite a few experiences on reddit lately, and their seems to be a common theme coming up….

…dialed-up-to-eleven shunning of xjws by their witness relatives.. it reminds me of back in the day, listening to some of the over-the-top vitriol displayed by hard-core loyalists when the topic of evolution or apostates came up….

…i was gobsmacked when i finally realized these guys weren’t offended and indignant because they thought it was lies….

Those are spot on in describing Lloyd Evans! I especially liked the second and third one!

I know, right? It's almost like he's a caricature prototypical example that would be invented for use in a text-book. It's uncanny.

That whole “feeling suicidal in Thailand” angle never felt right to me

Me neither, it's just stunningly convenient to press the "mental health!" button as a get-out, and people who weaponize claims to be suicidal are absolute shits IMO, especially when they do it publicly. Early on I read about how to deal with people making suicidal posts on the forum and best practice is usually to remove them because people making them rarely are and are just doing it for attention but they can have a very real and negative effect on people who may seriously be contemplating it and suffering in silence.

had lunch with a friend, whose a lecturer in the accounting dept.

of one of australia's best universities.

he told me he expects to lose his job at some point in the next 5 years, as the accounting dept, will disappear, as all accounting will be done by ai programs, so why teach it.. if his fears are correct, that means that any profession that involves the mind, may one day face the same future.

Ai is great for some things, but it's a long way off even basic intelligence.

Basically, it's still thick as pig-shit.

Unfortunately, so are most people, so they are easily fooled into thinking that some pattern matching is "clever" without realizing that there is zero reasoning happening.

That article is classic Lloyd, like a condensed greatest-hits album:

Complaining that people are accusing him of making money from his "hacktivism" (but only $10k was too much, at the time ... we all know what the real amount ended up being several years later, 10x that!)

Using his family / daughter as a shield against criticism of his actions. I wonder if he'd been regularly diddling hookers at that point? 'cause I don't think his "erm, I'm going to say" numbers were the true numbers.

Insinuating it's all so very bad for his mental health and how he suffers from depression. Note: other people's mental health is never a concern for him when he's bullying and harassing, only ever his own, and only when criticized. Funny how that works, eh?

Threatening to quit doing his "life saving work" ... definitely, and I repeat, not his "money making work" (Greta "how dare you" scowl)

Claiming any critic simply has a JW mindset.

Comparing himself to important exJW writers such as Ray Franz, as though his upcoming book would be anywhere near as impactful.
