I Thing Being Friends With My Jehovah Witness Friend is Taking A Mental Toll On Me?

everything was great untill about two years ago untill she realized i wasn't a jehovah witness.

i didn't notice it before but now i noticed the next day she began to give me verses about the "truth".

it recently got worse with her religious debates lately i've been able to prove her wrong with most of them.

I really love her and she's my best friend but being paranoid all the time about this its starting to really get to me.

Are your intentions romantic? Do you want a future with her? If so, you have only two choices:

Choice 1) Convert and be a JW, either for real or for appearances. Either way, your life will be nothing like it is now. And no matter how wonderful she is, no matter how gorgeous, a girl is not worth either becoming a JW or faking being a JW for the rest of your life.

Choice 2) Get her out. Some have already commented on how to help her do this. This would be the best thing for her in the long run. It's true that you may lose her friendship in the process, but as some have mentioned, even if you shake up her faith a little, she will be in a better state than before, even if she shuns you.

The very best advice is to read as many comments on this forum as possible. There are so, so many insights here. And there is not one single post on JWN that would ever make you decide to make Choice 1! You'll read about those of us who are "in" simply to continue relationships with husbands or wives or moms or dads or thier kids. You'll read about people who would love to be in your position - out of the organization with thier family in tact. There is absolutely nothing good to be gained in this religion.

i love his updated edition he left us before he passed away, he takes the k.p.

Scriptural Attendance

i'm watching a jw who is running himself into the ground.. before his last meeting, he sounded really agitated about his life's schedule.

all i could think of was how the wts was in his way.

2 service meetings a week (one where a presentation of some sort may have to be given).

When I went to Pioneer School the CO told us, "An unbalanced life for the sake of the truth is actually a balanced life."

Good one cobaltcupcake! I agree with the OP NeverKnew and other posters that there is no real scriptural basis. But stuff like what this CO said seems to be the norm now.

When it comes to RECREATION we have to be balanced! When it comes to WORK we have to be balanced!

But when it comes to FEILD SERVICE, MEETINGS or PERSONAL STUDY, NO LIMITS!

And if you happen to be a brother with responsibilities in the hall, although there is the occassional WT paragraph about being balanced, there really are no limits there either!

jw pro: easily established network of mutual friends con: easily established network of sociopathic busybodies, jw con bedroom laws and one sex position allowed worldly pro: positions in bedroom are only contained by the physical laws of nature.

Any benefit ends up being a double-edged sword, but here goes, from a man's perspective:

Pro JW wife: If she's a born-in, you can pretty much assume she's not been promiscuous in a past life. You can also pretty much assume she does not have an illicit drug past. Most likely no tatoos. She's fairly content with a humble life, and therefore not greedy or too materialistic.

Con JW wife: If she's born-in or converted just the same, you have to assume she's prone to depression simply because the religion causes it, and you won't be able to do anything outside of JW land to help her. Having a humble education, the conversation with her will be limited to JW interests. Having put Jehovah first in her life, coupled with the contentment of a humble life (lack of ambition) she will not be a rock star at anything secular.

I've actually heard the "GB as God's channel" point more and more the last year from elders discussing upcoming judicial meetings. I am only an MS, but hearing elders talk about publishers who are "struggling in the truth," many elders will just cut to the chase and lay it out - "do they believe that God has an earthly organization directing the work?" If not, they know it's all a moot point and there's no helping the publisher any more. Even if the publisher is not guilty of any wrong doing and is not up for any judicial matters.

These elders have gone through the motions, one judicial meeting after another and they've finally figured it out. If a publisher starts to doubt the orgainization in any way, all is list. Don't even try any more. They won't even attempt to "correct" their thinking on the matter. It never works!

Once a publisher, no matter how faithful, starts to have doubts about the slave, it's only a matter of time until they're DF'd! Helping to "correct" the publisher's thinking will just waste everyone's time and only delay they inevitable. "Satan's already got 'em. Let 'em go!"

there is a saying that goes .no man can for any considerable time wear one face to himself and another to the multitude, without getting bewildered as to which one is the true one...so do you find this to be true, when you have to wear a different face when you are among jws ..do you get tired of it all?.

I am not quite sure if I am a lurker. What is the definition of a "lurker" on JWN? I thought it was someone who was apostate-curious. Someone who was "in" but having doubts. They haven't made any decisons yet on whether they're in "the Truth." For me, and I think for the people you are questioning, I am "out" mentally, but "in" physically by neccessity. There's no question what I believe. And YES, I can tell you that it takes its toll! I don't live a double life to the degree that I am living immorally, doing drugs, and cursing in private, while appearing spiritual at the KH. I think THAT would be very difficult to maintain and would be very confusing for me. Fortunately for me, my double life is what I believe versus what I preach and teach. Strictly hypocrital! It's hard enough just playing like I believe the stuff taught in the KH. Doing talks and being out in service when I know it's a waste of time but acting like I am zealous. And yes, that feeling when I am giving a prayer is terrible because I am only helping to perpetuate the lie!

ipads and laptops

my wife went to the sunday meeting and said nearly everyone had ipads (tablet pcs) or laptops during the watchtower study with downloaded watctowers.. if they provide free wi-fi and coffee, i might start going again..
