is mothers day (& fathers day) celebrated by the jw's?
if it is not, can you provide a scriptural reason for the decision.
When I was a J-dub I found it hard to feel comfortable not celebrating birthdays, Mothers and Fathers Day. I saw the reasoning behind not celebrating the 4th of July and the like, but the others just left me towing a party line.
Since there are NO pagan roots to Mothers Day or Fathers Day, it is just honoring a parent. Is there anything wrong with honoring an individual? Nope......after all, aren't they supposed to give DOUBLE HONOR to elders?

I've often thought about "doing" something. I liked service because I thought I was doing just that. But I remember going to Old Folks homes with my mom, just to visit old people. I remember the smell, yuk, but oh how I remember the smiles and the old people touching my hair that Mom had combed, braided or put in bows.
I want my daughter to be taught the gift of giving smiles, giving from her heart. I want her to learn to touch people's hearts and make them smile. I have been thinking about going to some retirement places and just asking the front desk, "Who needs a visitor today?"

I do think that the OT was a foreshadowing of what was to come. I was talking to someone and I don't believe that EVERYTHING the WT says is lies. Its like Hitler, he could tell me I had a red dress on today, and he'd be telling the truth. So not everything they say is a lie. I just think they are pharisaical.
I think some things in the bible are the product of man, ie the digital inspection of a woman.
I guess I am where I was before I became a j-dub. Searching. Searching for truth and hope. But I do know I believe in God's existence and it makes me feel better to believe in the principles of the bible. But again, I want proof.

did you know that the wts forbid the use of salutations in correspondence to df/da persons?.
letters customarily begin with 'dear so-and-so' and end with 'yours faithfully' or 'yours sincerely' etc, but these terms are not to be used in any correspondence to a person who is a known df/da.. instead letters from the wts commence with the expression 'mr so-and-so' omitting the 'dear' and substituting 'mr' or 'mrs' for 'brother' or 'sister'.
society letters which usually conclude with something like 'yours in jehovah's service, christian congregation of jehovah's witnesses', end with simply 'christian congregation of jehovah's witnesses'.. should a witness have valid cause to write to a df/da person, they are to adopt the same procedure.
Another Pharisaical "rule".... wonder if a person who breaks the rule will have to flog self or risk being publicly reproved for actually daring to use normal business salutations/closings for a df'd one!
There goes that other bible rule ..... treat him as a man of the nations. I guess the bible rule doesn't count, the society rule supercedes it.

well we got the phone call from the elder to let us know of the decision to disfellowship us.

Its ALL bullshit! I went to sooooooo many meetings after being df'd and endured, but no more. I am not evil or wicked.

the phone call that says get lost.
Its not that people are spineless.....sometimes its the men (or women) who just won't take no for an answer.
I used to go after work to a small lounge every night. I got off work at 10pm, so I'd go there, have one or 2 glasses of wine, max, and then go home. I only talked to the bartender, maybe. Maybe another patron but the place was pretty much a happy hour place that cleared out before I got there. I never went on Fridays or Saturdays.
Sooooooo, one night, 3 guys try to send over a drink. I told the bartender, thanks but no thanks. They insisted. I said, no, I had 2 already, but thanks. When the next thing I know is that they are over at my chair, insisting I take a drink or calling me a snob. Next thing after that is that the bartender is explaining that I am a loner, I mind my own business and to leave me alone. I tried leaving, didn't work, BAR FIGHT!
Another time, another bar, guys wanted to send me and my girlfriend drinks...we said no thanks. They insisted, they sent shots, we pretended to take the shots and threw them over our shoulder.
Some people just won't take no for an answer!!! I used to give out the police departments number, this rejection number is a good idea!
in a relationship, their is 3 basic components: .
1. trust.
2. loyalty.
When someone has broken the trust within a relationship either by lying or by committing adultery, if they ask for forgiveness they are going to have to PROVE they are telling the truth.
What I mean by that, is that they have to give you the means to be able to verify their whereabouts and who-abouts. They need to call when they are going to be late. They need to be able to show receipts.
And they need to do this without getting mad at you for asking! When my ex and I went to a counselor, he explained that he had broken the trust, the fidelity and he was the one that needed to bear the consequences NOT me. He needed to be accountable and he was the one that needed to realize that trust had to be earned and that his word was doubtable.

Actually, the Mormons don't teach that if you don't belong to their faith that you are doomed.
They believe in the 7 heavens and that they will be in the "7th heaven" if they die faithful. When I asked what this Mormon thought would happen to JW's he said "Oh you'd probably end up on the 6th level." I asked if I would know that I was not completely happy since I was not on the 7th level and he said NO......so, for me, I told him, I had nothing to lose by not converting.
