Thinking of becoming a Witness again and my reasons for doing so :(

i've been a faded jw for 10 years i left because of my failed first marriage, i'm no hypocrite and realised i had left completely so i embraced the world and dived in, only christmas and birthdays i could not get into, they were too foreign to me having never celebrated them, like if i suddenly tried to do ramadan or something like that.. 1/ all the criticisms of the people in the truth you say on here, i've found in the world, warts and all only in the world nothing holds them back from being utterly horrible to you.. 2/ i got stabbed by a worldly boyfriend, i got married 2 times of my own choosing to men outside the truth, the first smoked and was an alcoholic, the second gambled every penny we had and defrauded me out of money after we separated, 2 divorces later i am currently pregnant and a single mum since current boyfriend decided kids was to much of a responsibility and he needed his freedom and i was 'too selfish to expect him to give up his life'.. 3/ parents-in-law!

i have been shunned by them as equal to anything you accuse witness families of and for the silliest of reasons, i had a disabled son and his grandparents said they wanted nothing to do with him because they didn't want to become attached in case he died.. 4/ i miss the honest friendships of the truth, i had friends of all ages from 14 to 80 years old and they genuinely cared for me, many trying to keep me in the faith a long time after i left but i was determined to fade so moved away completely, but i find friendships in the world so shallow in comparison and very hard to sustain :( i've never been a drinker and sometimes thats what friendship means you being a companion for them to goto pub with.. 5/ my recent boyfriend was in a christian religion, i thought why not find out about it, harvest churches if you ever heard of them, unfortunately it still hasn't stop him leaving me pregnant and alone and when i said to him how does he clear that with god, he replies "as long as i repent it doesn't matter" it's like he has a "get out of jail free card" for any wrong-doing in the bible, this is so alien to me and my witness trained conscience.. 6/ i recently out of frustration tried looking into atheism and joined their forums, it wasn't fun, they are as bombastic and arrogant as their religious counterparts can be from any religion, they make a religion out of not believing in god, it's very weird they talk of saving people from believing in god and offer nothing to replace it.

but if you and leo could give me one example of where other religions haven't been controlled by governing men either one or more inc the teachings and practices from Paul onwards, I'd be surprised!

Leolaia has proven to you that

1. The Watchtower explanations regarding the "torture stake" or "cross" argument are in error. She has shown that it is far more likely for Jesus to have been carrying the crossbeam of a "cross" than for him to be carrying a stake (which never happened historically)

2. That the Watchtower were in error in their "messing with" the New Testament and inserting the name "Jehovah". She has shown how that even affects the understanding of the scriptures.

These points are significant, especially point 2, because it is a fundamental issue.

In response, because you simply CANNOT ADMIT that the JWs are wrong, you use a really lame argument of "well all religions are run by imperfect men....show me one that isn't". Then you mention the bible and how it has been altered. Oh so I think I'll write my own bible....and alter it all I want....then when someone tells me I'm wrong I will simply use your argument of "well men have always altered the bible, so what is your problem?"

I wonder if you admit that the Watchtower should not have inserted the name Jehovah in the New Testament? (considering that there is no mention of the name Jehovah in the original manuscripts). If you admit that they should not have, then you admit that they have altered the bible! (a big sin, according to revelation). If you say they were right in inserting the name, then you ignore all the evidence and you are back in la la land.

These threads often serve to show people how very intellectually dishonest the JWs actually are. I don't know why, but I'm always surprised at how JWs can ignore logical arguments and facts.

as i told you before, they boe have been considering me for the eldership.

which i don't care for, but since my family is stuck in this cult, i guess i can use the new position to help them see that the holy spirit has nothing to do with me being an elder.

If Outofthebox is 100% honest, as has been suggested, he will lose his family and friends. If he tells them how he really feels about the JW organisation, they will shun him and he will likely be DF'd.

I can see why he doesn't want that to happen!

The Watchtower has created this situation themselves! If you don't want people "pretending" then don't take people's families away when they want to leave.

Having said that, I think its healthier to get out of the JWs rather than pretend. Walking away is better. But if you can't because you'll lose too much, then I would say "do anything to educate those who are in about the facts....but be careful not to harm people in the process". It would be entirely possible to give apostate details to some in the congregation where appropriate - to help them break free themselves.

The insertion of "Jehovah" in the NT of the NWT makes it very hard for an average JW to grasp Paul's points. In other words, you have to read Paul with the understanding that "Jehovah" is really Jesus. If you don't do that, you would miss what he is saying because you would think that Paul talks about someone else rather than Jesus when "Jehovah" appears. I don't think very many JWs would think of Jesus as Jehovah, right? So it would have been better to have not messed with the text by inserting a name that wasn't there to begin with.

This was a major reason I left the JWs. I realised that what they did with the NWT was dishonest.

Messing with the bible is wrong according to the bible itself. Somehow I suspect that Reniaa will come back with a JW argument or a "well at least they're better than other christians" argument, since that is all she has done throughout the 19 pages of this thread.

i'm a nontheist, atheist and agnostic.

i guess i like the term nontheist best, even though it basically means the same as atheist.

to me, nontheist simply says what i am not, while atheist has come to represent what someone is, at least in the minds of some people.

Lay off the newcomer, Sirona. It is possible for two people at disparate locations to have the same hashed IP address. Some internet providers route ALL their users through a hub. In that case, anyone using that hub would have the same IP.

You will notice, however, that my posts regarding the IPs were questioning more than anything because I didn't know myself.

I knew what Leolaia pointed out, because I have had PM's from other posters pointing it out to me that others shared this code too. THAT is why I Pm'd a moderator to find out what the situation is. I didn't want to post it to the thread because I didn't want to inadvertantly make people suspect the other posters mentioned.

The two of them can hold their own against the one of me.

i'm writing this because of a conversation i had with a co-worker who made it plain that she is anti-gun, 'guns kill people', yada yada.

she doesn't know that my gun is on me everyday, within just feet of her during the day, she still doesn't.

i'm writing this because i have seen a trait that's common to the anti-gun crowd, and it's a scary one.

Guns are illegal here (to carry) therefore that isn't an option.

This is a good thread though because people need to be more aware. I never walk in parks / fields on my own. I just don't go there. I read a book called "the jigsaw man" which was true stories of murders and the capture of the killers, and quite a few of these were committed in parks in the daytime.

Since women are generally not taught to be as aggressive in their own defense as men (universally true across cultures), a special program to help a girl or woman to get past that obstacle is a must.

True, but I doubt that would be my problem I'd kick the sh*t out of anyone attacking me (if I was able to!)
