My Beliefs on Spirtualism

it was suggested by someone to share my beliefs on spirtualism ever since i left the jw i no longer believe what the bible says.

however i don't do things like the occult or use a ouija board.

from the age of 11 i was interested in spiritualism through my brother who practiced out of body experiences, a lot of people have to see it to belive it really as many religions like the jehovah's witnesses says it is all work of satan aka lucifer, fraud or hoax.

I'm one of those wierd people who stands up and gives mediumistic messages!

I like the spiritualist church. It has its problems, but it gives individuals the opportunity to develop their own contact with spirit and it also has a significant healing influence.

The church appeared at a time when the human race needed to widen their understanding regarding all things "spiritual". This resulted in some totally ridiculous things being done and some crazy charlatans jumping on the bandwagon. The churches history is chequered with silly happenings and expose's of fraudulent mediums. Amongst the chaff there is some wheat though, IMHO.

For a deep understanding of spiritualism and occultism, please read Dion Fortune's book of that name "Spiritualism and Occultism". She was both a talented medium and an occultist.

I enjoy giving messages because its often very meaningful for people. It also helps me develop my skills. I'm afraid I'm guilty of using the church to provide me with the environment where this can happen. At some point, I may walk away. Having said that, I have surrendered to the will of God in this regard.

Something I Never Understood About The Importance of Meeting Attendance

why is it soooo important to be a regular meeting attender when you can read the publication simply, at home?

they don't want you elaborating on the material.

they don't encourage doing extra research.

Nope.

The difference is very clear.

The JWs view non-attenders as weak and will shun them to varying degrees. The pressure is there to attend ALL meetings and not only attend, but participate. Other faiths, such as a church I've attended recently, welcome me back just the same and with just as much love and support even if they've not seen me for 2 weeks. (or longer)

Also, the JWs have a unique format in their meetings, based on the books and magazines published by the Watchtower society. This format, as I've pointed out, is designed to indoctrinate.

Mainstream churches are very different indeed.

Catch up questions on the latest new rules and regulations -

well, if i count right, this is my 1500 post, and it is coming in on my first day back after about 2 years working too hard to afford more toy cars - so, i was fascinated to read through the threads and see some of the new stuff the borg has thought up.

here are my catch-up questions on this news, and sorry if i get some of the details wrong:.

1) - on the generation thing.

The generation thing: now they say that the "generation" IS the anointed ones. So "this generation" means the anointed still on earth.

With regards to new people becoming anointed: they have now said that the number is not sealed so younger JWs can now claim to be anointed.

Result: armageddon is further off because the anointed will grow in number and will not pass away too soon.

Think about the indoctrination process:

1. prepare for meeting + read material

2. Go to meeting and listen to material being read

3. Listen to question relevant to material

4. Look at paragraph and read material again

5. Listen to someone answer question and listen to material again

NOTICE HOW THIS PROCESS MEANS YOU GET THE MATERIAL GIVEN TO YOU ABOUT 5 TIMES? Also, they encourage a hypnotic state in meetings by making them dull and repetitive...hence you are in a RECEPTIVE mental state.

Then they schedule meetings to cover the same topics every few months or so, so that the whole thing is even more dull and repetitive. You "tune out" and your subconscious brain tunes in.

Plus there is peer pressure, "if all these people believe it, it must be true"

This is how they get into your subconscious.

If you were at home you'd read it once and go about your business!

Spirit beings are not all considered to be male - they are without any one gender. It was always explained that the use of "he" was simply because in English they didn't want to say "it".

I believe in all things wierd and wonderful but I'd say that your two examples are likely to be just chance.

Synchronicity is usually much more detailed and obvious than that - like speaking of someone from your past and then coming across their exact name that very day, THEN running into them that day. Usually it would be three things together - three or more. (example: you have a spiritual message about a particular rare animal and the next day you see that animal 5 times). If its two things which synchronise, all the intricate details match. This is just my experience. Seeing a particular make and model of car isn't that difficult and since no other details were involved it could just be chance.

Why JWs should soft-pedal the "Divine Name"

this is prompted by reniaa who claims that one of the things that jws have right is the name jehovah.. you know how if you're trying to convert someone to be a jw, you put your best foot forward and try to keep the controversial stuff that might "stumble" them on the back burner?

(like say, mother's day or when i was a kid, pinatas?

) well, that's how i categorize the whole topic of the divine name.

Just a point about IQ

A person's IQ is not about knowledge. IQ tests exist which require little or no use of language. A test I completed (the advanced matrices test) can be done by anyone and doesn't require a knowledge of English (or any one language).

I agree that encouraging your children to read is a good thing, but it CERTAINLY does NOT mean that JWs are higher than average in IQ. It just means that they have been encouraged to read from an early age and this will help them in later life.

It is entirely possible for someone of AVERAGE IQ to be capable of reading well.
