URGH, it gives me cold shivers down my spine.
Particularly the bit about JWs being thankful and others not being.
Honestly, I say more prayers of thanks now than I ever did as a JW. I appreciate LIFE now.

well, due to my family situation, i was forced to attend the "zealous kingdom proclaimers" convention this year.
i decided to take notes so that i could share some of the points with you guys.
i've decided to post the notes for the friday morning session.

i love this forum.
at the moment, there are lots of people saying bad things about it.
i want to set the record straight.
Time to break out of this cycle of abuse and move on. And this is a great place to do that
Yes, excellent point. Thanks Lady Lee for voicing what I was trying to say much better than I could...

wholewheat:.
jehovah is nothing more than the very primitive concept of who and what god is that was held by a primitive, savage, illiterate group of nomads inhabiting the middle eastern lavant five thousand years ago.. jehovah is on a par with other middle eastern gods of the time; no more no less.
and we now discover through archaeology that jehovah had a wife.
No, I don't like being "talked down to". I understand that you don't.
My point was about the research and how you sort of indicated that you wouldn't be looking into it. I'd advise you to research it...you might be mightily surprised at what you find out. Some JWs know about it and remain faithful, some find that they have their eyes opened too much to go back. No matter what, you need to make an INFORMED decision to stay a JW, and you know that the society have published before that we need to make informed decisions about our religious standing.
to start you off, note this page
http://home.talkcity.com/librarydr/eztoamuse/webdoc16.htm
which gives a table showing ancient writings that are thought to parallel bible scripts, plus similarities between the hindu krishna and Jesus
and
http://www.fabrisia.com/crucifixion.htm
showing various gods and goddesses who were crucified, who died and rose on the 3rd day, etc.
and
http://sol.sci.uop.edu/~jfalward/john_baptist.html
which shows some remarkable parallels between writings of Homer and the gospel of Mark in relation to the story of John the Baptist. The whole website has some interesting points http://members.aol.com/jalw/joseph_alward.html
I don't agree with the content of all of these sites, but it just shows what you can find if you look.
In egyptian religion, the pharoah was considered to be God incarnate and at the end of his rule his blood had to be poured out "onto the ground". Ptah wsa the mighty creator and Thoth was his mouthpiece "the word". I could go on but there are so many parallels its unreal. These religions were around before the bible was even written and some before the coming of Jesus.

heard the expression "having a bet each way"?
you know how it goes, someone doesn't want to give offense or get "offside" with readers, colleagues etc so they try and agree with two conflicting arguments simultaneously.
the watchtower wouldn't do that, would it?
I HATE THIS STUFF!!!
One young man I know of had 2 passions : Rugby and the thought of going into the army.
The JWs took all of that away from him and to this day he regrets it and looks longingly at those who HAVE fulfilled their dreams.
Watchtower, stop ruining peoples lives!!!!!!
Anyway, thanks for pointing out that contradiction..

Oh wholewheat!
At this point, I could care less if you said Jehovah had 10 wives,
Well just because you didn't like what Francois said, that doesn't give you an excuse to ignore the evidence of Jehovah's wife, and the evidence of how the bible took its philosophies from the worship of other nations.
Or are you too scared to look, in case we're right?

This discussion forum supports the thriving (and rapidly growing) EXJW community like no other forum on the internet.
It is also a place where active Jehovah's Witnesses can come and find out the reality of the religion they are in.
Even if you are not JW, and never have been, you can still find on this board some of the most interesting and thought-provoking threads on the internet. You can meet some of the greatest people on the internet, too. Important issues are directly addressed, and thrashed out until the end. If you look closely, you can really learn a lot here. Threads range from serious issues such as biblical doctrine and cult practices to really funny threads like the never-ending jokes threads or the boobies threads.
Yes, now and then people get upset and they start insulting other people. That happens in any community. I've found that there are cycles - everything is fine and then for a few days or a week, we have a lot of threads with arguments. This isn't a bad thing really. Personally I think that thrashing things out is healthy and productive sometimes. It leads us to a really tranquil time thereafter where we all really gain something from the forum again.
Anyway, try to appreciate this forum. How would it be if it didn't exist?
My favorite moments have been:
* when I was supported through my recent illness with cancer
* arguing with FunkyDerek about the existence of supernatural beings
* meeting up with exJW pagans like myself and also getting to know other exJWs (it makes you feel less alone)
* reading Farkel's tremendously funny and insightful posts
So what are your favorite moments?

i have noticed alot friends here lately posing the question of things being good and bad etc.
so here is my question.
is there such a thing as absolute good, absolute evil, absolute anything?.
Oh its all so subjective. We can't even DEFINE good and evil.
Quantum (the great?):
We don't know for certain that God is unchangeable.
