  so today was my first sunday meeting that i didn't go with my wife.

  as an update she has decided not to move out right now...because she doesn't have anywhere to go.

  but she is giving me the silent treatment.

  btw, when I told my daughter why I wasn't going to meetings anymore, it went something like this (paraphrasing): "Hun, I want you to know that the reason I'm not going to meetings isn't just that I'm lazy or just don't feel like it - it's because I don't believe what I used to believe and I don't agree with many of the things being taught at the Kingdom Hall anymore."

  If she had asked for more detail, I would have given it to her, but she didn't. As I said above, six months later she quit going to meetings too. Meanwhile, she wasn't thinking that dad was just a slacker, and if she was hearing that people who don't go to meetings are going to be destroyed at armaggeddon, at least she had a competing opinion on the matter.

  SixofNine...you don't have kids, do you?

  Why? Because I implore you not to treat your child like a mentally challenged person?

  Not only do I have a daughter, but she is one of the most well rounded, immune-from-ever-possibly-becoming-a-JW persons I know. When she was six, I had to tell her why daddy wasn't going to the meetings anymore. I did this in spite of the fact that she didn't ask directly; but I knew she must wonder. Six months later she asked if I would be home from work in time, because she didn't feel like going to the meeting with my mom and sister. I made sure I got home in time. I don't think she ever went to another meeting. (I realize your kid won't likely have the same options)

  I can't even imagine what good you think you will accomplish by not giving your child a straight answer to his question. I'm sitting here thinking of different scenarios, and they are ALL worse because the kid has this question hanging in his mind.

  But you tell me, what message are you trying to send by avoiding the question? Or what message are you trying to avoid sending, and what is the benefit of not sending it?

  Think about, you've drilled it into your kids head that people who don't go to meetings are going to be killed at armageddon. And armaggeddon is coming soon. Don't you think you have some responsibility to let him know that you think that is all a bunch of malarkey now?

  He's five, it's not an adult problem for him, it's just a problem; his dad isn't going to meetings anymore after showing him and telling him his whole life that you go to meetings if you want to be a good person. He's five, he's not retarded; tell him why you don't go to meetings anymore. Tell him you were wrong and you told him wrong things that you don't believe to be true anymore.

  What, you think it's better just to leave him hanging and wondering and let his mom and other witnesses answer the question for him? At the very least let him know that going to meetings isn't the right thing for you to do right now, and you'll explain more later.

  I also don't want to start down a course that is going to pit his mom against me.

  huh? what did I just read about?

  i often wonder if you are here somewhere amongst the cool avatars and catchy screen names...it killed me 5 years ago when you ran away.....i felt as if i was shattered and would never be whole again.

  and if i had stayed in the borg....that would still be the case....alone i was dying inside slowly....the borg was drowning me in duty, loyalty to the organization, isolation, spiritual hunger, thirst for understanding- i had to leave too, i just didn't do it quite as dramatically as you did.. i don't know why you still feel the need to remain "missing" after all these years.... i just want you to know that i was tired of hanging on to the hurt and pain over you...i let it go when i left the borg.

  and all i want for you now is peace & i pray that you are okay and safe, wherever you are..... chg.

  Dead souls leaving voicemails

  have you heard of this before?.

  i am not a believer...until this week.. my dad (df-agnostic) told me that his wife's nephew's best friend (35 year old male, married, no kids) was killed in a motorcycle/car accident a week ago.

  the nephew (we will call him jonnny) was too distraught to say goodbye at the hospital.
