Contest.....Who Can Be the First to Guess
by journey-on inthere has been a rash of exiting (by choice or by simon) posters only to return incognito.
one or more have had a secondary "identity", and returned under a forum name set up months ago.
terra incognita's style is so familiar, but i can't quite put my finger on who this person really is.

How Do I 'Come Out' To My Kids?
by headisspinning inthose of you who have been following my story know that i just 'came out' to my family about being finished with the religion.. does anyone have advice on how to explain this to the kids?
their ages are 9 & 14 and they are very smart and fully grasp all the issues.. they are living with their father who has brainwashed them.
so this is very touchy.. should i just keep being a good mom and just lay low?

The fact that you aren't sure how, means you should not "come out", at least not in one fell swoop. You don't know their reaction, and it could easily backfire.
Instead, make sure that they know you as a person of concience. IOW, show them that you care about and take a strong stand on important things in life, but that you also respect letting other people (like your kids) chart their course in life. Hint: getting 10 hours a month in service is not an important thing in life; getting a good education, having an inquisitive mind, being active in making the world a better place, treating people as equals (men, women, racial and sexual minorities, etc etc), appreciating art and music, having hobbies that you love.... these sorts of things are important.
If you see a neat looking volkswagon bug on the streett tell your daughter that you think it fits her personality and you think she'll probably end up driving off to college in a bright yellow bug. That sort of thing; you could probably very organically find 10 subtly subversive topics per day if you keep on the lookout for opportunities to informally witness ;)
See how easy it is to provide a better alternative to the witnesses?
You know how the lame shit your ex-husband does and says makes you roll your eyes? The trick is to get your kids rolling their eyes at their dad's religiously inspired lameness along with you. Don't let them see your anger, but do let them know that you aren't distancing yourself from "the truth" because you are lazy, or just want to do your own thing, but rather because you don't see it as "the truth".

Everything i knew was wrong
by StopTheTears inlooking through the internet i learned that everything i have ever know to be true is a lie at the beginning of time god and his celestial family created the earth and the heavens.
they are the greater force and also the fallen angels that are prophesized in the bible.
they sped up the evolution in people separating them from monkeys.

Does your personal NEED or WEAKNESS give you the right to demand?

I think you have made many valid observations, and identified situations that are unfair for the able, willing and strong.
lol. We'll be ok. After all, we're able, willing, and strong. Any minor unfairness is easily (and happily) trumped by those considerations.
But to everyone else, thanks for playing ;)

Snoozy, I worked on a TV commercial for an indoor "Temple of Doom" version of that "top-spin" ride featured in your first post. Admittedly we didn't do 107 flips, but the ride was surprisingly tame. I think after a while (10 flips or so) it would just become irritating, not scary.

When Thomas Kincaid lovingly bathes a skull in God's heavenly, mist infused light, THEN it will be art. Until then you kids should get off of my lawn.

Do you know that the Oil Companies make .33 profit on each dollar and the rest goes to the Government as TAXES?
And you wonder why the cost of gas is so high?
High compared to what? The dollar cost of gas is artificially low in the USA compared to the real cost in "defense" spending and environmental damage/cost.
High compared to a year ago? Yes. Are you saying there have been $1.00 of new taxes imposed in the last year that none of us heard about?

Atlas Shrugged Part 1
by littlerockguy inwent and saw atlas shrugged part 1 at the rave theater here in little rock friday night.
i was surprised it showed here since it had such a limited showing.. anyway i was really surprised at how well it was done on such a limited budget and a very tight and short schedule to have the whole picture done and it really followed the book very well.
i went to the 7:15 showing and the theater was packed but but not sold out.

"Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge: it is those who know little, not those who know much, who so positively assert that this or that problem will never be solved by science."
What does this have to do with the discussion at hand?
What is the context of the following two quotes? Was Darwin comparing human societies or technological advances when he said the following?:
"In the struggle for survival, the fittest win out at the expense of their rivals because they succeed in adapting themselves best to their environment."
"The expression often used by Mr. Herbert Spencer of the Survival of the Fittest is more accurate, and is sometimes equally convenient"
