Why using Jehovah for God's name is as good as using Yahweh
by oppostate inin another thread i wrote some notes about why using jehovah in english is as good as using yahweh.
i'm starting a discussion on this topic because it sounds quite ignorant to hear people talk of the monk who started using it in latin without really understanding why the monk did so.. the spanish dominican monk, raymundus martini, in 1270, didn't get hoodwinked by an old jewish superstition about pronouncing the divine name with the vowel points of another word.. 1. first the vowel points of adonay and jehovah cannot be the same for grammatical reasons.
you just can't use the same vowel points because some vowels aren't paired with some consonants in pronouncing hebrew words.

I posted in the original thread that we would love to know the details of the settlement as it was strange that the WT decided to settle after advising they would appeal.
In seems Candace has won, all I wonder is has the WT promised her and her lawyers that they will change some of their draconian internal child abuse policies as part of her settlement as she was intent on not just getting compensation for the abuse but she wanted them to admit their fault and change it for others.
But we may never know the details, let us see if she can say anything or if any new elders letters in the future advise of any change to child abuse policy.
Either way, Candace Conti will go down in history as a brave woman who took on a corporation who were wrong and she won, she deserves to enjoy the rest of her life and find happiness.

I'll play Devil's Advocate on this and advise that EVERY company is doing what the WT is doing, slashing costs, cutting operations etc...it's the way of things at the moment...very few companies are actually in growth to the extent pre-world recession.
Whilst the WT has to slash costs because of factors Cedars mentions they are not the sole factor...I work in the publishing industry and the entire publishing industry is struggling with many publishing companies slashing costs or outsourcing departments...
I think to look at the decline of the WT in terms of them closing branches or cutting costs as as sign that they themselves are in decline is not entirely true, the WT, is in effect, a publishing company as the cost to print soars (ink and paper are going through the roof) then the WT simply has to do what all other publishing companies are doing and cut costs.
Of course, other publishing companies don't have to worry about falling donations or child abuse compensation...

by purrpurr ini've noticed increasing amounts of jw's are coming off fb and deactivating completely.
all with the same reason which they post about at lenght which is that they wwant to focus more on their spiritual life and not have the distraction of fb.. have i missed something or is this just a coincidence?.

Of course Candace can do what she wants and we are all very proud of her, I was just going by the previous statements of her and her lawyer about what their objective was/is.
The fact to me she has settled seems to suggest she has gotten the WT to change some of their draconian child abuse policies like the 2 witness rule etc.
Hopefully, this will benefit thousands more who have suffered abuse and hopefully prevent any abuse. She has been a very brave woman for this fight and has won.
I just hope we can get some details of her settlement.

Confused though.
In the UK we recently read an exdub won v the WT and payment was set of £275,000.
But that exdub was not fighting to change the policies of the WT, just that they were at fault.
Candace on the other hand IS fighting to get them to change their policy thus why would she accept a settlement, she is not in it for the money but to change the policies...thus the only way she could accept a settlement is if the WT are going to change their policies.
Or am I wrong?

local example.
well liked ms son of a prominent elder/pioneer gets caught doing the dance with no pants with his fiancee.

Yup it happens.
We had a young MS who was daddy elders pride and joy caught going to a nightclub...daddy elder asks me if it is true of which I said yes as my flatemate, a study at the time, worked in the nightclub told me...nothing happened.
Another MS goes to the same nightclub but not daddy elders son, instant demotion as a MS with public reproof.
