Road Rage Kills JW; Should Mom Commit Suicide?
by Funchback inquite an interesting (and sad) story.
in my opinion, the victim's mom echoes the thoughts of many a jw, that being this: that jws are the only ones who know how to cope with tragedy.
what she says, in effect, is: "unless one is a jw, they would kill themselves over this.

Quite an interesting (and sad) story. In my opinion, the victim's mom echoes the thoughts of many a JW, that being this: That JWs are the only ones who know how to cope with tragedy. What she says, in effect, is: "Unless one is a JW, they would kill themselves over this. But not me! I have a real hope." Do you Agree? Disagree? Here's the story:
Road rage suspect sentenced to 120 days
Kirkpatrick
ZoomDoug Mattson Still unsure of his role in a fatal crash nearly two years ago, a 62-year-old Nevada City man was sentenced Monday to 120 days in jail, with an option of home detention, and three years' probation.
Bruce D. Kirkpatrick continues to suffer from head injuries and has no memory of the March 7, 2001, crash that killed 22-year-old Jesse Roberts of Grass Valley on Highway 20 near the Nevada County fairgrounds, according to a Nevada County Probation Department report.
The sentence frustrated Roberts' family members, who thought the case justified a stiffer penalty.
Early on, the California Highway Patrol characterized the crash as a case of road rage. Kirkpatrick and Raymond Herve became engaged in an anger fueled chase after Kirkpatrick cut off Herve on southbound Highway 49 at the Empire Street exit, according to the CHP.
Investigators argued Herve later overtook Kirkpatrick on westbound Highway 20 and quickly braked, causing Kirkpatrick to lose control at roughly 90 mph and skid into the oncoming lane, killing Roberts. Roberts, a computer technician, was returning from helping a paralyzed Penn Valley woman with her computer.
Herve was acquitted by a judge at trial, and Kirkpatrick's felony vehicular manslaughter charge was reduced to a misdemeanor in a plea bargain.
A probation presentence report says Kirkpatrick has permanent memory loss and continues to suffer from a brain stem injury, a vertebrae fracture near his skull and pubic fractures.
A doctor reported Kirkpatrick has "poor insight to his deficit ... (and) memory deficits continue to be a limiting factor to his thinking," according to the report.
Questioned by the Probation Department, Kirkpatrick said he felt "terrible" about the crash. He initially claimed no responsibility for the crash but later said his speed and loss of control were factors in Roberts' death.
Efforts to reach Kirkpatrick's lawyer, Dewey Harpainter, after sentencing were unsuccessful.
Roberts' family, which had more than 20 supporters in court Monday, gained no solace from the sentencing. His father, Jim Roberts, said he didn't hate Kirkpatrick but hated missing his only son.
Later, Roberts' mother, Laura, said her family members' faith as Jehovah's Witnesses - offering them the belief they will reunited with Jesse - has helped them cope.
"If we didn't have that to look forward to, Jim and I wouldn't have survived this," she said. "I would have committed suicide. ... It's the Bible that has kept us going." -

The irony is this:
What would this man do if, after getting paroled and then marrying and having a child, his child gets abused by a JW? Kill again?
I wonder if he knows about the JW pedophile scandal.........

No parole hearing for alleged Geoghan victim
By John Ellement, Globe Staff, 1/14/2003
former Boston man who alleges that sexual abuse by a pedophile priest indirectly led him to savagely murder an elderly Roslindale woman in 1981 will remain in prison after the state Parole Board rejected his commutation request.
Acting as advisers to Governor Mitt Romney, the board voted 7-0 Friday against holding a public hearing to consider whether James M. Costello should be eligible for parole. A public hearing is the first step in the lengthy commutation process. He is serving life in prison without parole for first-degree murder.
Now 37, Costello was 15 when he and an older friend murdered 80-year-old Palmira Piciulo in her Hyde Park Avenue apartment, where she lived alone.
Costello alleges that he was abused by now-defrocked priest John J. Geoghan while serving as an altar boy at St. Andrew's Church in Jamaica Plain. Several of Costello's siblings also alleged that they were abused by Geoghan, and they and their mother have settled claims with the Archdiocese of Boston. Costello has a civil suit pending against Geoghan and the archdiocese.
While still a priest, Geoghan testified for Costello in 1981 when Costello's lawyer tried unsuccessfully to have him tried as a juvenile. Geoghan, according to Costello's current attorney, Helen Holcomb, could have helped Costello if he had acknowledged molesting him.
Holcomb said Costello must now wait a year before again seeking commutation.
She said Costello, in recent years, has had a clean disciplinary record, works as a Spanish translator for inmates, and has become a Jehovah's Witness. ''I can't believe the board decided his fate without granting him a hearing,'' she said.
In a four-paragraph letter to Costello, the board said his prison behavior had improved, but ''you do not appear to have made exceptional strides in self-development. You have had very poor institutional behavior up until the last few years.''
The board also said it was swayed by the viciousness of the crime. ''This was an extremely atrocious crime, which involved the beating and murder of an 80-year-old woman as she screamed.''

Oh, okay, SOJ.
So, then, you won't count the placements/time/return visit when you turn in your time?

No, don't request it through SwordOfJah! He just want to pad his theocratic stats (he'll count you as a Return Visit and he'll add an hour to his field service time and he'll count the publications as placements).
I can get them for you at my Hall. Plus, I won't "use" you for stats. [email protected]

Leaderboard:
(These standings only include those who have made predictions for each game, each week. They do not take into consideration the margin of victories. They are simply based on right and wrong predictions)
The Governing Body Class: Big Tex 6-2 ("I didn't make any false predictions. YOU say I got two wrong. I say that Jehovah will set matters straight!"
The Elder Class: Gopher 5-3 ("Each congregation should have at least 5 elders and 3 Ministerial Servants.")
The Average Publisher Class: Funchback and NameWithheld 4-4 ("We do what we can. No more, no less.")
The New Light Class: Crownboy and CC Ryder 3-5 ("As soon as we get some new light, our record will improve. But, we are NOT false prophets!"

Breakdown of those bold enough to make predictions.
Well, there were no upsets or big comebacks this week. All of the home teams won. The most exciting game was Pitt @ Tenn. Here's what I learned this weekend. No lead is safe against Pittsburgh. Atlanta's 3-4 defense is better than I thought. Oakland is a well-oiled machine. And SF is way overrated.
Funchback, Big Tex, and Kismet got 3 out of 4 correct this week.
NameWithheld, crownboy, Gopher, breeze, and CC Ryder each got 2 of 4 correct.
Unlike last week, NO ONE got 1 of 4 correct.
Interesting tidbits from those who predicted scores and/or gave reasons why they picked the way they did:
Way Off Department: "Maddox will struggle" and "SF 20, TB 6" (Funchback) / "Jets will win in a close game" and "TB has no offense" (NameWithheld) / "Jets 43, Oakland 38" and "Atl 34, Phi 17" (breeze) / "Jets 31, Oakland 28" and "The Oakland game will go into overtime" (Kismet) / "Jets 35, Oakland 31" and "Atl 24, Phi 17" (CC Ryder)
Right on, Right on (or, close enough) department: "Phi/Atl game will be close until early in the 4th quarter" (Funchback) / "Tennessee will win in a close game" (NameWithheld) / "TB's defense will win it" (Big Tex)
Closest Guesses on Margin of Victory and/or Scores: Kismet, with his 24-21 Tennessee pick (34-31, actual) and his TB 28-10 pick (31-6, actual).
I can't wait to read everyone's predictions for the Conference Finals.
