Q: Why do the Brits drink warm beer?
A: Because Lucas (Prince of Darkness) make the refrigerators.
am i the only person ever to fall under the influence of the borg who can count?.
no offence all but jws meet three times per week.not five!
i consider the familiar statement about 5 meetings per week to be a good indication of just how indoctrinated a person is.
When did the meetings shrink from an hour to forty five minutes? Do they still have to sing those inane songs at each boundary?
When the meetings were shortened did they give an explanation?
Probable reasons (not publicly given by the WTBTS, I'm sure):
1) An attempt to improve attendance statistics
2) Recognition that the current crop of JWs doesn't have the attention span of those of years ago
3) Movement towards simpler topics
4) [Most probable] Attempts to schedule more congregations per Kingdom Hall as a cost savings measure

Foster's is pretty good by my taste. They have an extensive advertising campaign in the United States and that's likely part of the reason for the premium price.
Coor's is good for those who prefer a more pale beer. My favorite is Budweiser; it is brewed locally and the company has paid a great deal towards keeping its water source (a local river) clean for themselves and for everyone else.
multiple choice:.
what is the future of the watchtower??.
1. reform.
2006: Membership peak
2011: Significant mutation, probable drop of 607BC/1914AD doctrine
2029: If mutated towards mainstream, then completely mainstream; if mutated towards more stringent hard line, then extinct
my wife and i have been discussing the probability of the upcoming dateline program and the impact it will have on the org.
its obvious to us now that the retirement of the gb some time ago (all of their pr bs aside) was predicated by their awareness that this situation was developing, or something similar to it.
seems logical, yes?
I don't think that the _Dateline_ episode is going to have as much of an impact as some might think. As usual for my posts, a list of points:
1) The WTBTS has had a long time to prepare for something like this, and we can be sure that the preparation has had a very high priority.
2) The program is aired (I suppose) mostly in the United States where there already has been a lot of exposure to WTBTS wrongdoing (i.e., Internet exposure).
3) It appears that virtually all of the growth in the United States is from Spanish speaking people; if the _Dateline_ program is not rebroadcast in Spanish, then many current and potential victims will not be directly informed.
4) If the program brings up the maters of Greenlees and Chitty (or a few similar cases), the WTBTS can counter with "that was a long time ago", "they were only a couple of individuals", "we did not know beforehand" (plausible deniability), and the like.
We shall see.

4:1 - in later periods of time some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to misleading inspired utterances and teachings of demons.. well done all of you demons got you didn't they?
The web link proves I'm right. My God, unlike the one the WTBTS worships, has followers who are unafraid of Smurfs, Ouija boards, and Count Chockula breakfast cereal.
And speaking of web links, here's another one:
http://www.ewtn.com/EWTN/Experts/conference.htm
The above is a Catholic bulletin board where any and all reasonable questions about the faith can be asked. The search function also works, and you might try looking up "Jehovah".

"paying attention to misleading inspired utterances": 1914, 1918, 1925, 1975, etc.
"teachings of demons": _From Paradise Lost to Paradise Regained_, a prime example. A most efficient text to give to kids if you're into child abuse.
Sorry, no demons here. Try Brooklyn and Patterson instead.

after a century and a half of preaching and publishing, the wtbts (watchtower bible and tract society) has closed its doors.. the group was started in the 1870s with most of its doomsday doctrines borrowed from the second adventists, another american-born religion of the 19th century.
Hello Copernicus and thank you (and everyone else) for the thoughtful comments.
I'll have you know that my 2029 chronology is every bit as good (if not better) than any date prophecy output by the WTBTS.
Seriously, I hope that a few more posters might offer their own 2029 news clipping of what their reaction will be in that year upon hearing the news of the toppled tower.

(Headline) Former Members' Reaction to WTBTS Demise
(Dateline) October 7th, 2029 by the Associated Internet Media News Service
Several former members and long time observers of the WTBTS offered their comments today upon receiving the news of the demise of the WTBTS.
Reached at his retirement estate, a former member known only as "Skimmer" appeared grimly satisfied with the news. "I knew it would happen eventually, but it is unfortunate that so many were misled for so long", he remarked. He continued, "Too many years of too many lives were wasted upon the false teachings of men. And nothing left over for material compensation for the victims. There is so little justice in this world." After a pause, he then said in an ominous tone, "But there is sufficient justice in the next world."
After this reporter endured several minutes of Skimmer's somewhat profane speculations about the final repose of the WTBTS leadership in the afterlife, Skimmer was asked to comment in terms that could be transmitted in a family news media conduit. He said, "Yes, it is of no profit to waste time in speculation. After all, that's what the WTBTS did for many decades. And now it's gone for good." He sighed, and then continued, "But while the WTBTS has been consigned to the ash heap of history, it will not be forgotten. I, and so many other who were harmed by the cult are not victims, but victors. And as victors, we will write the history. Let all of the lies, cover-ups, and all the other misdeeds of the WTBTS be permanently recorded as a warning to any who would set up another such cult."
Other observers reflected on the downfall of the WTBTS and their comments appear in the following news attachments:
