  we all know the jw view of abortion before leaving but what about now?

  how have your views changed?

  Twenty six pro-abortion arguments:

  Life beginning at conception is a religious view.
  It (i.e. the preborn baby) is only "potential" life.
  It's only "potential life" until birth.
  The fetus is not a human being!
  The fetus becomes a child (only) at birth.
  Every baby should be a wanted baby.
  Abortion should be restricted only after viability.
  Who should decide, you or the state?
  What about my reproductive choices/rights?
  Women should have freedom of choice (abortion).
  It's my body to do with as I want.
  What's to stop the state from mandating abortion in the future?
  The population explosion threatens us all.
  Rape, incest or the life of the mother?
  Abortion should be allowed for fetal deformity.
  Forcing a woman to complete or terminate a pregnancy.
  Pro-lifers want to punish women.

  With appropriate apologies to jayhawk1, this is how the same argument was used a hundred and fifty years ago:

  "Personally, I don't support slavery for superior economic well-being. I do however support slavery that protects a slaveowner from bankruptcy. Yes, I do know somebody that did need to own slaves for this reason. Is a slave fully human? That is hard to say exactly. Can a slave become a full human? Yes. So perhaps it is a dependent life. Now here is the twist to my own opinion. Because I am not a slaveholder, I choose not to tell a man that slavery is wrong for an economic option. It is his plantation. If their is a God that cares, then a man who owns slaves will have to answer to Him. I guess, if I decide on a final answer, I really don't care if a man is a slaveowner or not."

  Questions on WTBTS abortion teachings

  granted that the wtbts is, in general, anti-abortion.

  interestingly, i can't find a reference to it in the _pay attention_ elders' manual, although tobacco and breast caressing are worthy of mention as being offensive.. i have encountered reports that the official wtbts abortion teaching includes the idea that an unborn child who dies as a result of abortion or miscarriage is considered not to be eligible for a resurrection in paradise earth, let alone a residence in heaven.. isn't this more than a little inconsistent with the wtbts "body equals soul" teaching?

  if an unborn child is not considered human and is so denied a future, then why is a jw female punished (by being disfellowshipped, i assume) if she has an abortion?.

  This brings up a question: how are persons at the CO and higher levels disciplined? Are COs, DOs, branch overseers (BOs?), and zone overseers (ZOs?) ever subject to a judicial hearing? If so, who conducts it?

  Those of us who were conned into the cult as teenagers or adults know of the "love-bombing" technique employed by the congregation. It is astounding that an entire year of an entire congregation's love-bombing couldn't convince a single person to join.

  Maybe they just can't get any of the public to even attend the meetings and so the love-bombing can't take effect.

  The global average of the baptism to congregation ratio is about 2.8 converts per year. That's an average of more than four months between converts. This is comparable to the typical length of a "successful" bible study, so on the average only one bible study at a time per congregation is having a "positive" effect.

  The answer:

  For each of the 28 "lands" listed, there was less than one baptism per congregation.

  That's right, there are apparently many congregations that for entire 2000 disService Year couldn't produce a single new convert including offspring of JWs.
