What do you think would happen if aliens landed?
by Abaddon inlet's paint a little picture.. it's spring 2002. at 1200h gmt a radio and tv announcement is broadcast on almost all conventional frequencies, in appropriate formats according to the medium and the area.. it's from a bunch of pale violet humaniods who have come "in peace for all qw'z'x>kind".
they say they want to meet up with the un in full cnongress.. disbelief rapidly turns to amasement when cnn and other news-services provide footage of a large alien vessel descending into the river near the un.
large in this case means 5km long... and wisely, none of the sac jets sent to have a look pull a will smith or anything stupid, although one gets nudgeed gently away by an invisable beam of some sort when it gets too close.. let's say it becomes apparent the aliens are utter benign, happy to hand out technological aid, scientific knowledge, and hope to welcome the people of earth to your typical peaceful federation of planets (about 5,00 different species all told).. how do you think people would react?

From the official WTBTS media website:
-> http://www.jw-media.org/beliefs/beliefsfaq.htm
"Do you shun former members?
Those who simply cease to be involved in the faith are not shunned."
Just send a note with the above reference along with a request not to be contacted. If the local elders do not follow the instructions, then write to Brooklyn with all the details. If the WTBTS tries to dodge, then do a complete write-up of the situation and publish it on the web and in some local newspapers.

Hello Abaddon:
I do not attack the general character of women that have abortions. (Remember the "tongue in cheek" warning?) It would be irrational to do so as I've known a (sadly large) number of women who have had abortions and their reasons for doing so are quite varied. If there was one most common problem that these women had, it was a serious lack of self-esteem and assertiveness. The plurality of them had an abortion because their boyfriend or husband coerced them into doing so. Some had an abortion because their parents or their boyfriend's parents coerced them into doing so. A few had an abortion because the child they were carrying was not the offspring of their current boyfriend or husband and were in fear of being abandoned. I think that few, if any of the above cases would have resulted in abortion if the women involved were more willing to take a stand for themselves. It is hard to blame women in these cases when one is moved more towards pity.
There is much less sympathy available for women who abort because it was socially inconvenient to carry a child for a few months; here in the United States there are waiting lists, years in length, for couples waiting to adapt newborn children, so no mother is forced into childrearing.
And I have heard of a case when the woman aborted her child just to spite her boyfriend. No sympathy there.
Interestingly, I know of no woman personally that had an abortion due to fear of a lack of financial support.
Concerning the disconnection of life support on patients with no brain activity, there is no comparison with willful abortion. Unplugging support from a brain dead patient removes NO future living potential from that person while aborting a child removes ALL future living potential of that person. Sadly, I know of this quite well as that's what happened to my stepfather in June and to my sister in August. Removing medical intervention provides for a natural death in these cases; in abortion, it's the unnatural medical intervention that causes death.
I do not now why there are cases of failure of implantation or of spontaneous abortion. I do not know why children are sometimes born with life threatening conditions and will die in absence of (sometimes mild) medical intervention. But if natural pregnancy failure occurs and you take that to justice willful abortion, then to be consistent you must also hold that live births with life threatening conditions justifies infanticide.
As regards capital punishment, it should only be used as a last resort when there are absolutely no other alternatives such as life without parole imprisonment, and this is really just another name for death by incarceration.

Most JW's Are Black and Female and Uneducated

Fact? Not quite.
1. I will assume that you are looking at the ARIS 2000 survey. If you know of a better one, please give the reference.
2. That survey only covers adults in the United States. That is less than one sixth of JWs worldwide.
3. The plurality of US JWs are white, not black or hispanic. Saying that the majority of US JWs are non-white may be correct, but this is not the same as saying that they are black.
4. It is inaccurate at best to say that US JWs are uneducated. I suspect that nearly all are literate and have the basic arithmetical skills to produce an accurate field report most of the time.

Hello again tyydyy:
Do I have the absolute answer? Undoubtedly, I am missing out on the absolute answer on many things. Yet I know that the issue of the beginning of human life is one of the most certain in my belief set, and this is based not just on religious issues only, but also cold, objective cellular biology.
If I were introduced to contrary scientific observations that were new to me, I would consider changing my view. How many "choice" advocates could honestly make the same claim?

Hello tyydyy:
The point of conception occurs when the during the fertilization process when genetic identity is achieved.
Priot to than, the ovum and the spermazoan are just cells. After that, the result is a new human life.
I would say that the main purpose of sexual intercourse is to show one's love for another with the foreknowledge that a child may result. Bluntly put, without at least the willingness to take responsibility for one's actions, sexual intercourse is just fucking.

[Tongue firmly in cheek]
Maybe Planned Parenthood and other abortionists should get together and run a dating service for their clients. Since 99%+ abortions are done for reasons of birth control, a list of females who think convenience abortion is acceptable would be a valuable property in a certain segment of the dating market. Think of the
types of males it would attract: the males looking for sex without responsibility, the males looking for sex without having to worry about the consequences, the males looking for sex without having to be concerned about the duties of fatherhood, the males looking for sex without being bothered about the potential need of making a commitment, males looking for sex while retaining the ability to switch from woman to woman without bothersome complications, and so forth. -

Again, human life begins at conception. This is the point of genetic determination. This is the point where all that is needed is a few months of nutrition and support. Now, none of that nutrition and support adds anything to the fetus that makes it a person; it just makes it a bigger, more well-formed person. The basic personhood was there at the beginning. Personhood is not subjective; it does not occur when it is convenient for the mother to have it occur.
The pro-abortion arguments based on development and viability are weak to the point of non-existence. A newborn child will still be developing for a long time. It will still need nutrition and support for years before it can fend for itself. Would any sane person allow a mother to kill her newborn or toddler or adolescent just because that child can't survive on its own? Why is it that the pro-abortion argument for justifiable homicide based on viability only applicable to pre-born children? If a woman can make the choice for abortion, why can't she make the choice for infanticide for a dependent child?

I don't have to refute any of them personally.
My stand is that human life begins at conception. There is no magic time when a fetus becomes a human being; it is always a human being.
