  Pluto should not have been classified as a planet in the first place when it was discovered back in 1930 by then 24 year old Clyde Tombaugh. Pluto fails to meet multiple traditional planet criteria: it is the smallest by far, it had a perihelion that intersected another planet's orbit, its eccentricity is the highest, and its ecliptic inclination is also much larger than any other planet.
  
  To be fair, at the time of its discovery, astronomers thought that it was rather larger and more dense than it really is. Also, it was not until the past couple of decades that the nature of the Kupier Belt was understood; now we know that there may be dozens of Pluto-like objects scattered on the fringes of the solar system. Indeed, it was perhaps in the mid 1980s that there first began a movement by some astronomers to remove Pluto from the planet list. I think that they were unsuccessful for a long time in part because Tombaugh, who by all reports was a really nice and humble person, was still alive and many astronomers thought it would be an insult to him to "degrade" his discovery. (He passed on in 1997.)
  
  Pluto is not the first body to get bumped. The asteroid Ceres, some 600 Km in diameter, was called a planet for a while in the 19th century before the nature of the asteroid belt was better understood.

  Well, without the hidden tube, it will be no mystery to the groudskeepers as to why the greenery is turning yellow.
  
  On the other hand, I could do my sacred duty and, uh, "pinch a loaf" for Homer and Freddie to help fertilize the grass.
  
  Another idea is to swap the real headstones for replicas that contain a hidden long life battery and a voice playback computer. It would be programmed to output randomly, once every few days to make it hard to detect. A great source of new JW demon rumors. Think of what you could have it say!

  Perhaps there's a stop at the "launching pad" where a couple of dozen JW elite are buried. You could hook up a hidden tube in your trousers and piss on Knorr and Franz. Considering where they are now, they just might appreciate the admittedly futile effort to have them cool down a bit.
  
  Or touring the printeries: "Sister Cleaner of Advanced Middle Age, do you think you can escape the next round of layoffs?" "Brother Press Feeder, what do you think about it taking thirty years of distributing that literature to get a single convert?"

  How Long Would They Last Without The Society?

  following on a little from 2 topics (xjw critical mass) and (the real reason jw's don't accept blood) sorry but don't know how to show the links, i got to thinking: .

  if the society were to finish publishing and closed down because of say bankruptcy from lawsuits, how long do you think the worldwide brotherhood would last?.

  i feel this is a good question to ask those still in.would they still worship jehovah without the rigmarole of 5 meetings, personal study and preaching work and the monthly kingdom ministry and other regular literature.

  Due to interference caused by WW II and further censorship by Communists in 1948, the Romanian Branch of the WTBTS went its own way. It now is part of an organization called "True Faith Jehovah's Witnesses" and it has members spread across the former Eastern Bloc countries.

  It's missing from the electronic Oxford American Dictionary that comes free with the current version of Apple's Mac OS/X. Interestingly, the same dictionary has all the profane words I've used, along with a few vulgar connective phrases I hadn't heard nor seen before. So I think that its general coverage is fairly complete.

  When do you put a dog down?

  im at my dads house at the moment and they have this dog thats 14 years old, and apparently this brand of dog has an average life expectancy of 10, so shes had a good innings.. now im not a dog owner, so its pretty easy for me to say i think they should put the dog down.

  my dads wife is very sentimental about the dog.

  i would say she was very attached to it, but for all her sentimentality, she has never walked the dog (its always been my dad) and she is not the one who gets up in the night with a mop and bucket - that'd be dad too.

  The best approach is to have a veterinarian perform an examination of the animal and to offer an experienced opinion of the animal's quality of life along with possible treatment options and likely results. Sometimes the treatment regime can be very expensive and an owner has to be prepared for either this or a much cheaper euthanization. A tough choice, indeed.
  
  For my Smokey Cat this past week, I decided to go for the treatment plan. He's home now and managed to eat nearly a whole can of cat food so far. He's getting around by himself and I think he has a decent chance of recovery. But if he has a relapse it may be best just to let him go.
  
  The standard Catholic teaching discourages the thought that residents in heaven will be reunited with their lost pets. Yet there is a minority voice among Catholics saying that whatever we need for happiness will be there for us, so our beloved departed cats and dogs (and horses, parrakeets, etc.) will be waiting for us.
  
  For pet owners: if you haven't already heard of it, do a Google search for "Rainbow Bridge" and see if that doesn't bring a tear to your eye.

  Smokey Cat is back from the animal hospital

  my cat smokey has recently returned from the animal hospital after about a week full of doubts that he would make it to see another day.

  he is recovering from an infection, idiopathic weight loss, and some other problems.

  smokey is finally starting to eat (just a little) and is using his litter box.

  Smokey has made it to another sunrise, I believe he slept well; he's always been good at that. Currently, he's mostly satisfied with little more than licking up all the juices from his seafood based canned cat food plus a bit of dry food. This is fram a cat that used to be able to go through three cans a day with no fussiness whatsoever. I'm happy to see that Smokey has retained his affection for high quality fresh catnip; he's gobbled up two large pinches so far.
  
  I should mention the group that first rescued him years ago.
