  what am i going to do , i'm not fully convinced by evolution or creation arguments.. they are both flawed in different ways, and suffer from a lack of evidence.although change through evolution does happen how far this can go is unknown.complexity from design does happen but usually leaves evidence .also no theories can go far enought in answering the ultimate questions.evolution relies on a universe that springs into existance, creation on a god that does so.evolution requires many complex and unlikely senarios in order to have happened so does creation.the fossil record is incomplete and without the missing pieces we can only infer what else should be there.god is either very shy or has lost his voice and dosen't seem bothered to prove his existance.. yet i exist, and the very heart of my being , the conscious mind is one of the least understood phenomenons in the universe.

  A lot of confusion seems to arise from the definitions.There are so many meanings people put behind the words evolution and creation.

  I think most people take evolution to include the formation of life on earth from non-living matter into living even if that is not the most accurate term.

  I suppose life from non-life is not too difficult to concieve, as to me a living thing is nothing special, in the sense that it is just a combination of non-living things working together to produce a synagetic result.Conscious being are in a different league altogether, and humans seam to be the only ones known.i've said this before but you can't say how consciousness arrived if you don't know what it is.Since we don't know what it is (although many ideas exist) we can't say how it got here.

  Reviewing some of the replys its seams I must qualify the title of this post to explain what I am getting at.

  I have a problem excepting the idea that there is a god who is above and beyond this universe, and who created life on earth directly as it is now or in the past.I have troubling excepting that the process of evolution that happens in living creatures is the sole reason for, and mechanism that causes our existance.

  My problems with excepting these points are down to lack of evidence for both standpoints.The evidence may be there but I have yet to find compelling evidence on both sides and in fact feel that there may be more to he matter of how we came into existance than just these two ideas.

  SixofNine "yeah, yeah. Scientist worldwide love to hide evidence, not even taking a close look at it themselves. After all, scientist just have no real curiousity or desire to figure things out."

  I think maybe some just feel that scientists are too eager to fit things in with the world view they have been learning for the past whatever many years and are afraid to speak out or be different.They are human after all, and most of us did the same with JW's, we filtered our view of evidence through our watchtower sun-glasses.

  I do doubt though most of these renagade scientists who claim to have made astounding discoverises that contradict all science or whatever.In Britian we have Graham Hancock , who has had to tone down his radical views other the years on the history of man due to overwhelming evidence , but he is eager to prove his views with solid evidence which I believe he is trying to do at the moment by searching for evidence of lost races from the ice age which would have been swallowed up by the rising see water.

  The point i'm focusing on is what evolution (in the sense of random mutations selected by hospitable environments) can cause and under what circumstances.For instance gravity can cause two objects to be attracted to each other, but that doesnt prove that a certain two object were attracted to each other soley under the pull of gravity or indead by gravity at all.

  Gedanken" The point being that the fact of evolution is almost as obvious as is the fact of gravity..."

  The fact that things can evolve, is not the same as the idea that everything we see is the result of the same kind of evolution.Likewise those wishing to prove we are created do not need to prove that things can be created , but that all living things were.

  By the way I hold no religious conviction, and have no desire to see evolution or the idea of a God being quashed.My feeling are based on the evidence I have considered so far.

  Gedanken I'm not sure if you were being sarcastic.I have no problem with scientists changing their view , this simply is not an issue for me.Gravity and evolution are two different subjects and I take each on their own merits.

  Fe2O3Girl " I would not write off evolutionary theory on the basis of what the Watchtower presented in the "Creation" book." I don't.I once prepeared a letter to send to the society clomplaining of the errors in the "creator book".

  Trashing The USA.

  it seems to me that many americans are convinced that europeans are for ever slagging off the usa for some reason or another.. just to set the record straight, america bashing is relatively rare in europe, most of us regard the usa with a not inconsiderable degree of affection.

  obviously there are cultural differences between the continents that can lead to feelings being trampled on, but america-hating persons are quite rare over here.

  the few real antagonists are very vociferous, but like most fundamentalists, regaded as being completely loony.. maybe the americans who have visited over here have an opinion?.
