My JW-Related Musical Experiences
by Roger Kirkpatrick inlooking back over my life, the only thing that i can say i truly enjoyed as a jw was meeting and becoming friends with a number of jws who were fine musicians and had experienced various measures of success in what used to be called the "music business.
tommy reynolds, from the vocal group hamilton, joe frank & reynolds ("don't pull your love out on me, baby" and "baby, baby, fallin' in love, i'm fallin' in love again") recruited me to play drums in his dallas circuit assembly orchestra in the 1970s.
in 1977, i became friends with legendary jazz composer/arranger/band leader benny golson, whose life story appeared in the oct. 8, 1980 awake, and who appeared opposite tom hanks in steven spielberg's "the terminal.

Exactly, and early Christians were big on numerology too, just to follow up on that.

Roger, you sound like you lived a cool life, but when you brag for that many paragraphs it gets a little gratuitous and comes off different than you intend.

The 12 apostles only enter the picture in the second-century, there's two token references to them outside the gospels and somebody added rhe one in 1 Corinthians 15 after the fact and probably the one in Revelations too, the Elders Papias wrote about tampered with it.
The introduction of apostles comes right around the time the Gnostics started claiming secret revelations from Jesus. The proto-orthodox church said its not about present eevelation but about Jesus' earthly revelation to the 12 who our fore-elders followed. Which is pretty much bunk. So the Gnostics came back with Well we follow the disciples of apostles too, Peter's secretary Glaucius, Paul's disciple Theudaa.
Claims to apostolic authority are sandcastles on the beach, shoulda been washed down ages ago.

It's pretty clear these people were already predisposed to this kind of thing, Jehovah's Witnesses dont go nuts like this even though they share the kidnappers' beliefs... but at the same time you can't ignore how their culture helped them along in this insanity. Seeing the police as monsters, having to flee Armageddon right away, chanting Jehovah like a hex... that's Watchtower baby.

A recent antiwitnessing experience
by john.prestor ini shared one of these before in which my approach left something to be desired, and i got some flack for that, and rightly so.
so if this story doesn't go over well i won't share another... but given how it ended, i just had to share.... a few days ago i took a trip to a nearby city by bus.
in the about 20-30 minute window between my connecting buses i walked over to a mcdonald's and got a cup of coffee, and when i came back to the little bus station i saw a literature cart sitting unmanned near the doors.

Nah, no waste of time. I felt strong and proud of myself walking away, particularly after I stood up to him when he got nasty. I'm working on me these days and that's something I've never been good about, standing up to people. So it was worthwhile. Maybe it wouldn't he to others, and power to them
VIII, what a bizarre reply, it's like they're staring right at an elephant in the room and pretending it's a donkey. Just... such blatant self-deception. Like we 'apostates could make up that story if we wanted to! Some things are stranger than fiction as they say, haha.

zeb, hahahahaha, that's great. I can just see them onstage acting that out with cardboard cutout trucks and vans and a paper mache garage door they bust through at the beginning.

Doubting bro, he really did, I remembered him saying that because he talked to me like I was some neighborhood thug. He acted like he owned the place, and you're right: he doesn't and neither does his wife. If it happens again I'll say something to the company.
StephaneLaliberte, that's how I see it to: if they don't want to be challenged, well, they can go back to door-to-door preaching.

Zeb, Diogenesister, thanks guys. I felt good standing up for myself even after he got so outright hostile and nasty. I stood my ground and didn't give an inch.
The thought never crossed my mind that he might have something to hide, and while I can't say for certain, the possibility is definitely there. He got really mad really fast, he didn't even pause to think he just lashed out at me verbally, and from his body language, he wanted to do more.
I'm headed to that station again Saturday, wonder if I'll run into them again. Wouldn't that be something, haha.
