  I think often of this paradox amongst JW's, whether here in U.S., Great Britain, or anywhere else in the world. They claim to be so different than the rest, in that they sacrifice their lives for the service of God. In reality, many do just as the person mentioned in the article; get a good job, make a decent living, STAY at the job for years building a nice retirement, and then fade into the golden years doing a bit more "in the ministry", all the while given special attention by the friends cuz he done well. Here again, I have nothing against a person having a life of economic stability, but please cut the bull about it being a live of sacrifice to Jah. I know they like to rationalize by saying that Brother So and So had to work because he had pressing family responsibilities. But most of them took on those responsibilies willingly. All in all, the Witnesses get comfort and satisfaction in doing and having the things that the majority of the rest of mankind does, and I don't mean having sex with farm animals. It was just a handful of us in every cong. that put aside taking care of ourselves in the hopes of being found worthy. The Witness life is one of great hypocrisy, denial, and "cognitive dissonance".

  steve and i decided to throw an officially disassociated/excommunicated (whatever) party at our house on saturday the 11th.

  all are invited!

  since we just got home last night from two weeks in hawaii, i don't have a lot of time to plan and prepare.

  Oh Boy!!! a party at Steve and Rachel's. Better fire up the motorcycle. Er, wait a minute, hmm..'dead of winter', me better rethink the idea. O.K., I've come to my decision. Stay planted on sofa over the weekend and watch some Foosball. You all have a grand time. Maybe someone could video the more interesting points and keep it for posterity. With you in spirit.

  alcoholics/non-alcoholics and AA

  i realise this question is off-topic for this forum but i believe this forum moved away from it's original intent long ago, and is now just a social place to talk to others with a similar background.

  i've got a friend who has recently begun going to aa meetings.

  she tells me that an 'alcoholics' body breaks down alcohol differently from a non-alcoholic and the difference in metabolism is what differentiates between an alcoholic and non-alcoholic.

  Check out a very good book answering all your questions: "Under the Influence" by Dr. Ketchum. It is available in paperback. Most good book stores can find it for you either by the title or by the name Ketchum. If Ketchum is wrong, try Ketcham.

  Alcohol does do something different in the alcoholics body. Plain and simple. Alcoholics are allergic to alcohol. Just like some people are allergic to peanuts and peanuts do something different to their body than your Normal peanut ingestion.

  Check out the book, you might find it quite revealing. Try reading the Big Book of AA also.

  Beware of Contempt Prior to Investigation.

  Thank-you for sharing your story. When we "talk", it begins to give the power back to us. Many on this site can relate, as is demonstrated by all the thoughtful, loving responses. You mentioned that you came from an abusive family arrangement. Was alcohol involved? If so, you might want to try Al-Anon. They can lay some wonderful tools at your feet and through their experience, help you to end the cycle of doing the same things over and over again while expecting different results. Hang in there, and don't give up before the miracle happens.

  WTS bans American football for "true"...

  in a magazine article, the wts has warned the r&f dubs that going to the football this new year is "pagan" and is engaging in a "false religious festival".. to support this teaching, the wts quotes from the encyclopedia britannica:"football games in the u.s. have all the external trappings of religious festivals .

  one side representing evil and the other good, depending upon the viewpoint of the members of the audience.

  leading the congregation are the priestesses (cheerleaders) .

  I do enjoy watching football but my enthusiasm took a bit of a hit when I caught Jay Leno's segment the other night. While interviewing COLLEGE players from Wash. St. and Oklahoma, these were some of the responses to his questions:

  What is the Space Needle?: " a needle taken into space to sew space clothes"

  If you leave the state of Wash. and head north, where will you end up?: "Oregon"

  Spell Oklahoma: nobody got it right, and the best cop-out was, " I just use OK. "

  These news making molestations and the WBTS cover-ups bring it all back to me as to why I'm on this site and no longer sitting in a Kingdom Hall. It will be a very interesting year. May the victims have peace, and hopefully justice.

  I'm having a hard time watching the news right now. The rehtoric coming from the White House is all so transparent. They're going to deal with North Korea with " diplomacy ", all the while preparing to bomb the hell out of Iraq. They tell us it's "a different situation". Yeah, right. North Korea has the bomb and a military, so they've GOT to communicate with them. No wonder other developing countries, who are no less dangerous than North Korea are scrambing to augment their arsenals. But so much for men's plans.........If and when a scenario develops as you portray, I say, once again, " NOTHING THE WBTS HAS SAID OR DONE WOULD EITHER MAKE THEM A TRUE PROPHET OF GOD OR WILL AFFORD THEM ANY SPECIAL PROTECTION ". I can't see myself going back!!

  a while back i posted my opinion that the wt's demise would come at the hand of the "home grown" legal department.

  in my scenario i see the lawyers flitering cash out and creating legal manuvers to protect the players ( like any other corporate "legal theft").

  Most of the younger JW's ( 19-30yrs old ) would have definitely been labeled " bad association " when I was coming into the Borg (1974). All these full time jobs, getting married, having kids, buying homes, all from Satan, placed as " distractions ". Nowadays, these ones are on the fast track to elderhood, and they respond to our blank stares of amazement with " you got a problem with that ?".
