Maybe next month's Watchtower will feature an article titled "The Pope: Unfairly Maligned?"

No Reporting of Time, Tithing is OK, Now WT Teaches a "Rapture" - What's Next?
by Sea Breeze inthose who will be taken to heaven will first need to be “changed, in a moment, in the blink of an eye, during the last trumpet.” therefore, while we do not use the term “rapture” here because of its wrong connotation, the remaining faithful anointed will be gathered together in an instant of time.
- the watchtower—study edition | july 2015. ok so they refuse to use the word "rapture".
kinda like they refuse to use the word church and clergy (except when it suits their purposes in court cases).

What If The Tower Fell?
by Big Dog inwhat if the truly unthinkable happened and the tower went down?
perhaps the irs swooped in and claimed fraud and padlocked the headquarters and kingdom hall doors?
or the gb took the money and ran to a nice non-extradition country to live out their years?

My mother would see it as expected persecution and hold on. At least at first. If the org was unable to communicate and get any kind of message out, I don't know what she'd do.

If 1914 gets tossed
by Leathercrop init feels like the change in reporting of hours becomes a fundamentally bigger deal every day.
the weight and importance placed on quantity was enormous, and now it's just gone.
even tho most witnesses really didn't keep "accurate" records so to speak hehehe.... this could very well be a precursor to even bigger doctrinal changes, like 1914. damn, would would happen then?.

If they were going to drop or modify the 1914 teaching, they would need to ignore it and not mention it at all for a number of years, so that the rank and file forget about it. Then they can offer up new light and say that Jehovah has given them a new understanding through the holy spirit. They will word it the way they usually do- 'isn't it great that Jehovah has blessed us with this new understanding? How wonderful he truly is!'
No one will want to point out that this means that Jehovah was misleading them for more than a century. That kind of talk can get you in a room with three elders before you can say "apostate"! They will be forced to agree that it's amazing that they now have learned these new truths and look forward to facing the end of the present system of things, which is no doubt going to happen any second now.

Moses is a potentially good comparison, for those who believe that he wrote that he was the most humble man on Earth. It's almost like someone constantly insisting that he knows he is "a good person."

Concealing Abuse videos
by TonusOH ini don't know if this has been posted here before, seeing as the videos are 4 and 5 years old.
the older one analuzes the coverup of csa by the wts, but also does a very good job of covering the 1975 issue:.

The first video also explores a different group that has an even more horrifying history than the JWs. The JW-specific section starts around 19 minutes in.

There were some forms of proselytizing I did not mind, such as conversations with people who had genuine questions when they learned I was a JW. But going door-to-door on weekend mornings --especially in the over-worked territories we lived in-- meant that we were creating a situation where we were least likely to be welcome. And no one cared, because reporting hours was an important metric.
I don't know how many years I went door-to-door. Thirty? I may have had two or three good conversations in all of that time. I had far more useful conversations at work or with friends who simply had a question or two. I don't think I converted anyone, but I was able to discuss issues and even leave literature with them sometimes. Accosting people in the street or bothering them at the worst times is only good for adding an hour to the monthly total. Not so good for actually saving people.

by peacefulpete ina lot of ink has been spilled on the topic of the cross.
the wt felt it had uncovered some deep conspiracy when they found a number of words were used to describe how jesus was understood to have been killed.
there was an extensive thread many years ago that in short strongly supports the conclusion that at least some nt writers envisioned a cross, while others had a tree in mind.

I think we still heavily depend on mythology and folklore for our stories today. But I think we are finally past the point where those can become more than just stories told for entertainment or teaching purposes. But I'm not sure about that, given that Mormonism and Scientology are quite recent and have become established religions with small but devoted followings.
It might be more difficult today to create a new religion, even one built on the framework of previous ones. But I might be overestimating just how powerful such ideas can be, and just how badly people want them to be real.

T5: So who would care ,must be the one that give more $$$ each months
That's a good point. I wonder how much of his remaining support is people pledging high amounts versus people on the lower tiers? Maybe that is why his enthusiasm is waning; I think he would feel insulted at having to produce anything for anyone but the most generous. Or did you lower-tier people think that he is actually grateful that you give $1 or $5 every month?

Lloyd Evans Patreoff Pool - December 2023
by DerekMoors input in your bets as to where you think lard i mean lloyd evans will land after december's drop in his patrons.
in september he started at 457 patrons, did his whiny begging fest and peaked at 478, but then dropped down to 439 at the beginning of october.
as of this moment (nov. 6), he's at 427 paid members.. so, where do you think he'll be on december 2nd?

Congrats, Kim!
I have to say, it looks like his support might be reaching a point of equilibrium. Mostly the die-hards are left, perhaps? On the other hand, he would still need to make an effort to keep the number stable, and lately he does not seem interested. So this might be where the slow bleed begins.
But I'm still going to guess around -25 for next month.
