How could anyone defend someone who betrayed his wife and kids with drugs and prostitution?
To their credit, a large number of his supporters left after his confession livestream/video. At least one generous spender made it clear that Evans had abandoned the moral high-ground and this made it impossible to support him anymore. The only ones left at this time try to minimize or deny what Evans has done, even though these are actions and behaviors that he is admitting to, either in video or writing. So they pretend not to know.
I think that many of them are so grateful for finding a way out of the JW organization that they cannot see the issue rationally. I bet that they would see it clearly if it was anyone other than Evans. I bet they would see it really clearly if it was one of his critics. At some point, they probably will admit that Evans did not deserve their support after they learned about what he did. But confirmation bias is a very powerful thing.
