Their approach is not an uncommon one: select a bunch of isolated verses and apply an interpretation. It looks impressive at first glance, until people begin to read the contextual verses and find discrepancies. If you are the WTS, you warn them that they are slipping into apostate territory and that maybe they need to stop.

LMsA: I think the judge should see this.
I suppose the defendants can file documents of their own, but as slimboyfat said, it's unnecessary. And that is what Lloyd is counting on. He knows he will never have to deal with the suit in an actual courtroom. He won't have to deal with discovery requests (although...). He won't have to face cross examination. He won't have to see others -including his wife- face cross examination. He is making his case to his patrons, not to the court. And since it will be dismissed, he can stick to his narrative.
Of course, that won't go well either. Once the case ends, the real trial can begin. The seven have been gifted with page after page of
evidencecontent. Maybe there will be videos carefully reviewing all of the claims and discussing why those claims were made. Maybe have a lawyer browse the evidence and point out what a mess it all was. Have them explain why the case was doomed from the start. Make in-depth videos explaining the timeline of Evans's bad decisions over the previous two or three years. What can he do? How can he claim vindication when the humiliation has gotten worse? That video. Tsk, tsk. Shouldn't have made that video...

Is AI going to change the world?
by Reasonfirst inhad lunch with a friend, whose a lecturer in the accounting dept.
of one of australia's best universities.
he told me he expects to lose his job at some point in the next 5 years, as the accounting dept, will disappear, as all accounting will be done by ai programs, so why teach it.. if his fears are correct, that means that any profession that involves the mind, may one day face the same future.

Criminals will usually be the first to exploit new technologies. And with so much cybercrime happening, I suspect that they might even drive the development of AI. Probably not a good thing...

You can see what the excuse will be if they ever implement such a system- it is the fault of the rank and file, for not giving enough when they had the chance. It is also, indirectly, Jehovah's fault, for expecting his followers to pony up cash instead of providing for them himself. It is the perfection of narcissism: praise us for all of the good things, but the bad things are someone else's fault.

Diogenesister: So did he pay 'eyewatering' sums? I doubt it.
Yeah, it is hard to know for sure, because he can't be trusted to give an accurate account of anything. But we have to remember that he doesn't care if the claims are reasonable or actionable. It's a show for the remaining supporters. So long as they believe that there is a chance that he will be vindicated, he will be able to milk them for donations.
When the lawsuit finally ends, so does Lloyd. Unless he makes the big time as a musician and comedian.

I figure we'll see them eventually. No doubt the seven will want to make them public for the entertainment and vindication value.

Diogenesister: May I ask what the reasoning is for not making his submissions public?
He probably wants to avoid embarrassment.
Hey, maybe he can offer the seven an NDA. Their price for silence? Between 3,000 and 8,000 euro!

JWLITE
by Teddnzo ineven elders can be part of the new jw lite brigade these days.
they don’t need to go on door to door anymore and there is no requirement for anything really.. taking meeting parts is all dead easy you could turn up on the day with zero preparation because it’s all in the meeting workbook.. quarterly elders meetings are just old men having a good old natter just like old men do down the pub.. congregations could be likened to pubs or bars these days just without the drinks, those come at other times.. no need for territory maps, these almost went away with covid letter writing now they are extremely slow getting finished as those who still go door to door only do ten mins.. you could even voice your questions these days about things the gb say and then just say “we can’t be dogmatic we just don’t know”.
i predict they will say this about 1914 soon..

Just to clarify: Pascal was saying that if you did not believe in god, it was better to fake it. Because if god does exist, there was a chance he would not punish you in the afterlife. It is less about hope and more about cynicism, since it relies on a god who is either easy to fool or quite apathetic.
The problem is that the god of the Bible does not come across as either foolish or uninterested. Nor does he seem to appreciate people trying to slip past him. Pascal might be roasting in one of the hottest pits of all at this moment, joined by all of the people who thought god was okay with a half-effort.

Notice what they say in that book/pamphlet:
Jehovah's people do not beg for money. They do not pass collection plates or send out letters of solicitation. Neither do they use bingo, bazaars, or raffles to raise money.
They are very specific about what they mean by 'beg.' They are not referring to any other approaches, such as videos about how they are facing shortfalls. Or instructions to congregations to send money each month. Or instructions to congregations to ask members to dedicate a specific amount each month as a donation.
In other words, there is a lot they can do to pressure the membership to donate more while still claiming that they do not "beg" or "solicit funds."

Who is the who of WHO we ARE? And when we die......where does the "who" go?

That is an interesting thought experiment, Pete. Say it was possible to clone your body with your mind intact at some earlier point in your life. And your original body has a mind that is dealing with changes due to time and injury. Which of the two would be more "you"?
