after reading the two piece bikini discussion and the comment about calipornea, it reminded me of something i used to hear about the jw attitude in general there.
that it was extremely lax compared to mid west or other areas.. people were supposedly not df'd when they would most definitely been elsewhere, and more "worldy" type of dress and grooming were tolerated well.. is this correct at least in some areas?
if so, do you think it has to do with money, or the general culture there?.
I have a friend who's Mother (JW) is in Palm Springs Calif. From what I hear she is a very strict witness (Now). More so than she ever was. I wonder if it is a congregation thing or just individual things..
From what I hear she is terrified of the demons!
Her daughter was telling me that they went to help her one time when she was moving and they would comment on how something looked bad (or demonized) and she would panic and throw it out..she said they had a lot of fun..
Neither daughter is a JW now and figured it was payback for all the miserable years they had growing up a JW child..
The mom did leave the religion for many years and went back about 9 years ago..and is way overboard with the religion now..

my wife and i have read carefully through chapter 5 of the new elders manual when we do our " personal study " in bed on saturday mornings !
so without further delay , notice this quote from the new elders manual, " there are times when an emotionally distressed christian may seek professional help.
whether a christian or his family pursues treatment from psychiatrists , psychologists, or therapists is a personal decision.
Is the Elder's Manuel available on line?

the new study watchtower page 9 explains how sisters should be happy to be servants to their elder husbands.. "co-operate in financial matters".
"joyful to see her husband active in the congregation".
if he makes a decision you disagree with "she displays a quiet and mild spirit and cooperates with him to make his decision work".
I loved being a stay at home Mom..I guess it depends on the individual. I loved catering to my husband. (and kids)
But surely that article quoted has been doctored..surely.."Don't complain if he goes out even staying out all night?" Get real..no one would say that.

mrsjones..all I am getting is a street view of a lot in the 2600 block..it shows 2799 but on the property it shows 26xx. I don't see any Kingdom Halls either..looks like a big parking lot on one side and houses/ condo's or apartments on the other..

i have had it with my mother.
i've spoken on the board before about her.
she is fanatically religious, often keeps me on the phone for hours while she talks endlessly about the bible.
I also want to add that I think anyone that is dealing with past/present issues in their life concerning their (toxic) relatives should seek counseling to help them deal with the abusive/ toxic people. I don't mean to let them walk all over you but learn how to deal with them. Running away doesn't help in my opinion. The problem is always in your mind still..until you learn to deal with them!
JW's are in fact doing the same thing in their minds..Shunning =eliminating toxic people (non JW's) from their lives.. throw them away so to speak..
I also think if we eliminate everyone that we feel may be toxic to our lives we would soon be a hermit!!!
