My daughter keeps wanting me to read the book..like that will make me believe in heaven as she does..
I don't think so.
Well at least she got rid of that JW teaching from when she was a child..

i was in middle of transitioning channels and it caught me off guard when i heard it but was something about jw's at the door and they kept ringing the doorbell.. didn't catch the whole episode so went to cbs.com and they haven't posted the one that aired tonight yet but it should be up soon, next couple days and maybe i can post a link then to it.. anyways was just curious if maybe someone else saw it and could fill in the details about what led to that discussion about jw's on there..
Copied it and watching it now..I'll let you know.

OK all I saw was Waldon asked his mom about his brother. It turns out his brother was a gorilla. He asked why his brother (the gorilla) was sent back to the jungle when he was small and his mom said "We had to send him back. He tried to eat a Jehovah's Witness". Allen then started to make a comment but Waldon asked his mom something else..
Later Allen said his brother (when he was drunk) also tried to kill a Jehovah Witness because they kept ringing that Darn bell.
yesterday, i opened a topix account so i could post the information about watch tower representatives attending the political ocse meeting in poland for two weeks and the proof that they are an ngo.
one of the posters responded with these words: .
"barbs-info," eh?
Thanks for the TOPIX link Barbara...

i went to the social security office and asked for my retirement earnings benefit printout, as i am planning on signing up at age 62 next year.. many people don't know this, but if you have a dependant child (some stipulations apply) under the age of 18 living in your home and you claim them on your tax return, you can get a social security check for them until they turn 18.. how much is it?
it will be 50% of your normal retirement age benefit amount- two or more children will get you more- up to the maximum family amount- which might be less, if you have a spouse drawing off your earnings record.. so, if you know of anyone who fits in this category who isn't getting a check for their child, have them go to the ss office and apply, asap!
i believe, they pay retroactive benefits.
I heard that you have to be married for at least 10 years to collect on a spouses SS. I found out there are other circumstances where they can still collect if you are not married that long.
I would urge any who lost a spouse (or is divorced and getting ready to retire) to really dig for answers and don't take no lightly.
A lot depends on if you have a minor child etc.

I can't tell you how many people I talked to at SSA after my hubby died. He had just been collecting SS for 6 months when he was diagnosed with terminal caner..we were advised to go to SS and sign up for Disability for him. He received it with the next check and got a retro check for 3 months. They said that was as far as they could backdate the cancer.
BUT..after he passed away I talked to several of the people at SS. I was told how much I would get if I started collecting when I turned 62. I could collect mine or his (would be more).
It was only one person (out of many) that told me that if I wait I could collect my hubby's FULL disability at 65. I was told I could collect on mine from 62 till I was 65 and then switch to his full pay.
If I hadn't talked to that one person I would have taken the SS right away and lost out on over $800. a month extra..
I was able to do it as I was able to collect his retirement for 3 more years..
I would recommend talking to several people there before making a decision.
Thank you for posting this as many should be encouraged to at least ask (and keep asking)..many really don't know what is available to them.

I agree. I think the Ex JW's had a lot to do with several changes in the religioin. A Good thing!..
Their voices are being heard and will continue to be heard.
They are being exposed.
The one thing is now that many witnesses still believe the internet is evil..Only when they decide to explore will they come upon the real truth about their religion.
The only other way to get to them is the media and hopefully they will again run some stories about the JW's.
Good post! I also noticed you first signed on when I did..
Snoozy..who's been around a while..
well, my husband's worst fear has happened.
he told his kids, ages 15 and 10 that he was coming to visit them over the holidays.
his ex-wife limits his telephone contact to one call per week, so when he called them last week to arrange the specific days he would see them, his son told him that he got baptized back in september and would no longer be willing to see his father.. this came as a complete shock.
If he doesn't take control now he may as well forget it..
If he doesn't take control now it will look like he just doesn't care.
A father doesn't let his X dictate how many times he may speak to his children..or see them!
Just saying..
The kids are being brainwashed by the mom and he is letting her..
It isn't too late for the kids..counseling would be good for them..courts would go for it also..

i thought it would be nice to start a thread with some of your favorite christmas traditions... especially for those who are just beginning to celebrate christmas.
we open a gift on christmas eve.
when i was a kid, it was always a new pair of pajamas.
We too were allowed to open one gift on Christmas eve..

i was at a nearby lake this summer and i came across a peculiar triangle shaped rock.
it looks man made, but i have no resources/money to check out what it is.
so i took pictures of it.
This thread had such a wierd title I had to see how in the world it could go 3 pages..I'm amazed and amused..
