when you were active, did you buy any lottery tickets?
i know a xjw who told me that he never stopped buying lottery tickets, even when he was active.
he always asked somebody else to go get them for him, so that he wouldn't be seen buying them.
I'm addicted to the scratch-offs!. Every weekend my husband and I drive to Georgia (Tennessee doesn't have a lottery yet) to fill up (gas is way cheaper) and buy $5.00 worth of scratch-offs.

why is it that jw`s get `hooked` into the latest multi-level marketing ploys
All of the good-intentioned dubs i know got into these ventures not to get rich, but with the hopes of making just enough money to quit their secular jobs and pioneer full time.

i thought some of you might enjoy some more email i have received as a result of my quotes webpage.from: teena turner [email address removed].
i cannot believe how low some of you people will sink in order to slander jehovah's name.
how reliable are these quotes?
Quotes:
It is amazing though that after two email responses, young Ms. Turner still hasn't admitted -- to herself -- that the source of her anger is the author of the words: i.e. The Watchtower.
When I read her e-mail and your response, my first reaction was a little chuckle. But after reading her final e-mail, it almost made me sad that this young woman will be sucked into the borg, despite her obvious doubts, because of her family and the "loving group of brothers and sisters."

my two favorites are a toss up between john lennon's "so this is christmas" and the "little drummer boy" - the one where bing crosby and david bowie are singing together.. love, scully
Hi happyout and welcome!
"This Christmas" is my favorite, too (Donny Hathaway's version). I also like "White Christmas" (The Platters version) and Feliz Navidad.

i saw the thread on tbn, and felt this question was a good one to pose to the board.. .
tithing is being preached more and more in many christian denominiations.
a chrisitian is under obligation before anything else to give 10% of gross income to the church.
I'm probably in the minority here (again), but I do believe in tithing. But, what I think is more important is being a cheerful giver. Many churches, including mine, have outreach ministries that feed and clothe those in need so sharing what you have with others becomes special to the giver.
The whole issue of Churches constantly asking for more and more money and billing its members for tithes (yes, some churches do this!) is part of the reason I started the TBN thread. Last week they were having their fund-raiser/rally/revival/tent meeting/whatever and, of course, the topic of the messages all week was guess what........GIVING. While I was uplifted by the testimonies, (I love to hear some good preachin') I was also disappointed in the message, "If you don't give, God won't do anything else for you!"

Francois:
I can remember back in the early '80s there was this TV preacherman with a message sort of like the witnesses--no heaven, no hell, paradise earth. I remember my mom and the "sisters" saying "Have you heard so-and-so? I'll bet he's studied before!"
For some reason I thought it was Ernest Angley, but I'm probably wrong. Anybody else hear of this or was it just my congo?

Does anybody watch TBN? I'm partial to Juanita Bynum, Rod Parsley, and Paula White. My husband likes G.E. Patterson.
Any takers?
BTW, this is my first thread, so please respond............and PLAY NICE!!!!!!!!!
