How Being a Witness made you Lose out on Higher Education and Careers
by flipper inhi, folks.
been thinking of this, because of having been raised in the witnesses.
i reflect back on opportunities i would have encountered and seized, had it not been for being controlled by the witness organization being told higher education was not needed.

Does the JW leadership still frown on nightshift jobs like they used to? I just returned to my job after an extended leave and I found that my work team was assigned to a new supervisor. He is a JW and works the 4pm to midnight shift, Tuesday thru Saturdays. Furthermore, he used to work at that position and was then fired, but he sued to get the job back. A very odd JW? Or is that the trend these days? He obviously misses all the weeknight meetings.

What's reasonable to expect on a first date?
by serendipity ini've been on online dating sites for a while, have exchanged emails with over 100 guys (politely saying "thanks, but no thanks" to the vast majority) and went on dates with a few.
i'm generally disappointed in the emails these guys sent and have been disappointed in the dates.
i'm not sure if the problem is with my expectations or if there is just a lack of communications skills and courtesy among people.

Dating again for me is what wakes me up at night in a cold sweat.
I can so relate to this.....
Based on what you described here, I didn't like that guy. Move on. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect someone to show some interest in you as a person. He just blabbed on for 4 hours. Granted, you didn't stop him either, but come on? Did he forget someone else was sitting across from him?

I "felt" that FunkyDerek was going to join this thread. . . and he did
So did I! But there is a rational explanation for that, isn't there?

Favourite foreign languages?
by greendawn inwhat foreign language or languages do you enjoy most listening to, though you may not be able to understand the words?
i find several foreign languages pleasant to listen to, french with its refinement, italian with its sing song musical quality, and german with its coarse but resolute intonation.
i also like the sound of russian and castillian spanish.

I love listening to Egyptian Arabic and Brazilian Portuguese. I hear Yiddish the most of all foreign languages and it's the most comforting for me to hear.

Do You Recognize Your Baptism?
by sweetstuff ini was promised that this generation would no means pass away.
(live forever book, pg.
154) i brought this up, although it has probably been discussed before, because i am sure some people right now are worrying how to handle an elder's visit or call.

Absolutely not. I was a minor and had been lied to all my life. Furthermore, I was not baptized in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost, so therefore not a valid baptism.

Nosy questions for the Americans

1. As you don't have NHS, what happens if a sick child was in a medical emergency, is there a charity that covers them or will treatment sometimes get withheld if there is no insurance?
I don't believe that treatment would get withheld. The child would get treated and then the hospital would bill the parents. If the child is a victim of a crime--such as a drunk driver--there is the Crime Victims Compensation Fund in some states, they pay for medical expenses and such. Also if the family qualifies they can apply for Medicaid which is state sponsored health insurance. But if they don't qualify for that then they're stuck with an enormous bill. Sucks.
2. What accent does Nicholas Cage have? (purely cos its just so gorgeous lol!)
I have no clue. I know he was born in California.
3. As we have some of your takeaway shops here MacD's etc, do you have any British style fish and chips shops?
There was a chain called Arthur Treacher's that sold fish and chips. I don't know if they are still around. Some mom and pop shops in my neighborhood sell fish and chips. Really good!
4. What is your all time favorite british show?
Are you being served? I have the entire DVD collection, including the movie.
5. What british accent do you like the most?(no i don't mind at all if you say Somerset lol 'oo-ar!me dears!)'
I like the broke down British English spoken in Trinidad/Guyana
6. Do you have state benefits and council housing for the poor/single mums etc?
Yes and it varies from state to state
7. Why do you say mom and not mum?
I say mummy?
8. Do you have roast chicken on a sunday with brussel sprouts roast spuds and bread sauce?
That sounds great! I won't wait for Sunday to have it.
I typically eat out on Sundays. Seafood Sundays for me.
