Special Local Needs Part -- Re: Dateline
by NotBlind inby means of a phone conversation with my sister this morning, i have learned that a congregation very near to bill bowen, the m__w__ congregation, gave a local needs service meeting part last night on the subject of "protecting your children from pedophiles".. although i wasn't there, here's what my sister said was included in the talk:.
1. when a man is a pedophile, he won't ever be a ms or elder again.. 2. wt doesn't shield offenders from 'caesar's laws'.
note: never said that they turn them in to the authorities, just that they don't 'shield them'.

Explorer, I have no hate for individuals in the org....I do hate the wicked policies of the WTS and I hate the way they rip families to pieces with their doctrines...I hate organized religion all together, but I love the people I left behind....in fact sometimes I miss them so much it makes me sick....but I can't belong to a religion that tries to be mediator between God and Man...i.e. "If you aren't one of us you can't be a true Christian....the only way to get to God or Know Him is thru the WTS"....

by soylibre inone of the craziest things i ever witnessed as a jw was a funeral for an unbaptized publisher...she attended my cong.
and was very quiet and softspoken...the type who never caused any trouble and who would ocassionaly comment, directly from the paragraph....nice lady with a young daughter about 11. well one day she's driving down the road and gets hit by a pepsi truck....(can anyone say lawsuit???
) she's hospitalized and is in critical condition....to make a long story short...she's faced with the blood issue and finally gives in and accepts a transfusion and dies anyway...ok let's fastforward...no one apparently knew about this except her mother....a non-jw who had studied off and on for years and years.....so the obituary appears and it's public knowledge that her funeral will be at such and such kingdom hall at such and such time....actually published info...well, she had tons of non-jw family...typical of us black folk...anyway let me get to the point....apparently the day of the funeral, just some hours before in fact....the elders find out about the blood and don't want to have the funeral in the kingdom hall....but what are they to do????

Monica, I'm sorry to hear about your brother....what a shame... and Hippikon....the guys from the funeral home were so disgusted...there they stood...in the KH and the body is outside in a casket in the back of a hearse...they kept shaking their heads as if to say..."what kinda freakshow is this?" It was a fiasco!

Gsark....all I can say is I'm sorry for what you've been thru....first a physical rape and then a spiritual and emotional rape....keep your head up and your heart healthy and you'll be fine...Sorry, don't know much about JW policies anymore...da'd almost 4 years ago and threw all my literature in the trash....and it was A LOT...poor trashman!!!!! Pobrecita.....I'm so sorry you're going thru this....it has to be tough....I will say this to you....You're doing the right thing by standing by your Mom....and yes your sister is very MISLED.....she's doing what she thinks is the right thing....unfortunately it does rip families to pieces...try to be there for the both of them...remember your sister sees it like this, "if Mom really loved us she'd get reinstated so she could be with us", JW's tend to take it very personal when someone they care about chooses to not be in the org. They get pretty offended....almost like "blaming the victim".....Try to hang in there and do the best you can....your only real hope is for your sister to come out and maybe you can help in that!!!!!! Just to confirm what the others have said....JW's only view their publications as being trustworthy for research....and like someone else said, "it is heavily santized" if not sterilzed...they are usually narrowminded, often not reading much besides their own literature.... You are right in one thing, they are more of a cult than a religion....they practice shunning of those who leave their organization, they aren't encouraged to seek higher education, they are discouraged from associating outside of their group and so forth. As far as alcohol goes, it isn't forbidden, "in moderation", but I have known several who were alcoholics....one lady I knew used to drink first thing in the morning and last thing at night....elders were aware of her "habit" but it was never addressed...."everyone has a different intoxication level......whose to say what hers is?" I believe that was the excuse they gave.
