I remember when the announcement was made at our KH - a collective gasp was heard, and it's all anyone talked about after the meeting.

The Ray Franz Saga
by snugglebunny ini'm just curious as to how it all happened.. to explain.
many years back, before ex-jw websites, i called on a local lady in order to design an extension to her already enormous house.
she was a young, voluptuous gal, married to a much older local business man who spared little expense in order to give his young wife whatever her heart desired.. we chatted for ages.

I don't post very often but this brings back memories! An elder busted me smoking when I was 16. I ran away and didn't get the nerve to go home and face the music til after midnight. I was at my boyfriend's house but told the folks I was sitting behind the KH praying for forgiveness! I'm certain they didn't buy that! My dad said I was grounded indefinitely, but it lasted about a two weeks. A few months later the daughter of that same elder told my parents she saw me smoking at school. I told my mom it wasn't true, and she made me put my hand on the NWT and swear to Jehovah that I didn't smoke. I didn't believe in Jah so I did it and didn't feel a bit guilty. I finally quit smoking almost 3 years ago!

Welcome! You certainly do have an interesting story! I'm sorry you and your husband are shunned by your families. At least you have each other and can live your lives honestly and fully. Congrats! -

Only a few days ago I was entirely lost and without hope the rug was pulled out from under me
by elderess inonly a few days ago i was walking around the house in a mindless wander thinking if i needed to seek professional help.
then i got the courage to seek the comfort of complete strangers on the internet and found a world of support here on this website.
thank you simon and whoever else has made this website possible.

Did you get " Counseled " about the Music you Listened to While you were a JW ?
by flipper infrom the time i was a small boy - i loved rock n' roll music.
beatles, rolling stones, led zeppelin, hendrix.
i started getting slighted for the music i listened to as i lay in my bedroom listening on headphones to led zeppelin's song " black dog " at age 14 with my elder dad looking suspiciously at me as i'm rocking out .

I once bought an Elton John album. My dad went through my records shortly after, (he would occasionally rummage through my room) , and he dragged me back to the store and forced them to let me to exchange it. I ended up with Billy Joel. But I was never so humiliated in my life. I'll never forget him yelling at the guy saying "this singer is a homosexual and that goes against the Bible's teachings. I do not wanty daughter listening to this music". I still cringe when I think of it. -

My experience with the people in my hall
by Freeandclear ini've been awake now for about 6 months i'd guess and a member here for a couple of weeks.
it's been eye opening to read other peoples experiences on here and i appreciate all of you.
i've noticed in many, seemingly most, of your comments that you were not treated well at your hall or you have had very negative experiences in the "org" so i thought i'd like to share mine.. in all my time as a jw i have to say for the most part i always loved the people.

I went to the same hall as Freeandclear and I can confirm that it was filled with caring, loving people. There was one elder in the bunch I detested, and a few others I didn't care for, but most of the folks I remember fondly. -

Your Favorite Poetry
by compound complex inthank you, dear friends, for expressing your thoughts today on the importance of the arts in your lives.
many years ago, a number of threads were devoted to poetry, literature, even english grammar.
rather than resurrect an old thread -- usually with zero results -- i would like to introduce a new post, asking you to add some of your favorite verse.

Another one by Yeats:
Cloths of Heaven
Had I the heavens' embroidered clothsEnwrought with golden and silver light,The blue and the dim and the dark cloths Of night and light and the half light,I would spread the cloths under your feet:But I, being poor, have only my dreams;I have spread my dreams under your feet;Tread softly because you tread on my dreams. -

The arts are my life - I am a collections manager in a fine arts museum, and I'm also a photographer. I love old classic movies and books, as well as classical, jazz, and alt-indie music. I'll talk art all day long if you want! -

When I was in the 6th grade, my congregation needed a larger KH, so they started to build it, then soon ran out of money. One day my dad suggested that it would be really helpful if I gave the money in my piggy bank to the fund. I flat out said no, I've been saving up for months for a new radio - I don't want to give any money. I could tell he was disappointed, and he tried pressuring me a little more, but I didn't care. I bought my radio and had it for years. They never got a dime out of me.
