I know from experience that this isn't true. I have lived the lie.

My "theocratic" mate...well how sad & pathetic.
(nuf said...deserving of pity not venom).

After my "scripturally legal" divorce was finally granted....I fell in love with a "worldling" who was far more emotionally balanced and "spiritually mature" than any JW i had ever dated. Not to mention the other talents that came with. hehe
It was the first healthy relationship I've ever experienced. Really raised the bar so-to-speak.

Too bad "I" was the jdub screwup in that case. live&learn

my parents made it clear to me that while i'm under their roof, i can't have _any_ communication with apostates.

obviously, that would rule out this group; so until i move (hopefully in a couple of months or so), i must be on a forced hiatus!

Self-love

i posted on the belief board last week when i started reading a book by thich nhat hanh.

i read the chapter on self-love and was deeply moved.

i know society, but especially the borg tells people to be selfless and do all these things for others and the borg, that we tend to feel awful about ourselves.

77 - yes, self-love was the first thing i discovered had been sadly lacking in my life as a dub. it has been so refreshing to be free to give myself some of the TLC that used to go to everyone BUT me before. i've been working on that and have come a long way in a short time! one thing i found their philosophy did to me was make me constantly feel like i had to try to be PERFECT. i've since discovered that i'm not perfect and it's not the end of the world...

i have watched the discussion on this forum for some time,have never been able to commit to a response.. my question is this , while recognizing the catharsis of discussion and debate ,when do we say enough is enough and get on with it?(life).

how do we,why are we so drawn to the process of yelling at a community who largely will not hear.

It's a therapeutic thing.

For me...it's about having left EVERYTHING and EVERYONE I knew for the past 29 years (um, that would be my entire life experience) and starting a new life in a world that is virtually foreign to me. Surviving this is no ez feat, not even remotely, psychologically speaking...so it really helps to chat with others who have been thru it...who understand. In my experience, non-xjubs (say that 5times fast) can't even begin to comprehend my situation and I'd rather not bore them with details that r 2 difficult to 'splain.

Hence, Enter this forum. Even though each posters situation is unique, they have each in their own way "been there" and many probably know what I'm going thru.

I take comfort in that.

How would a WTS 'operative' behave?

i'm sure several here have posted and tried to be a thorn in the flesh of some of the jw-loyal forums on the net.. what was most effective?

if someone announced "i am an apostate and i think you jws are all wrong and i will prove why" do you think they would last very long?

to be able to do any damage so to speak, a careful masquarade would need to be maintained of being a loyal jw while stying to stir things up.. now, think of how anyone opposed to us 'opposers' would behave here .... would they announce that they are jws and they they were going to "set us all straight" ... or would they pretend to be an apostate ... pretend to 'help with the cause' but try and do more harm than good?.

This does make me wonder,
just how safe/dangerous 'tis for me to give out info on here,

Part of me says it really doesn't matter...I mean, I'm not giving out my home address or anything...and who would really care anyway...but still deciding just how private should i keep myself.

Some of you post pictures and names and lotsa personal info...others of u are here via clearly well-disguised alias camouflaged personasheehee...part of me wants to expose myself for who i am and where i'm from and meet some friends...but part of me just wants to enjoy the chats and posts from a "safe" and reasonably vague pseudonym & persona.

Whats the worst 'get-together' game you endured?

as a young teenager, we were always having get-togethers.... you know the spiritually upbuilding' kind ie.

bible quizzies, really boring stuff.

Gopher - i think you win for the most torturous game so far, that sounded awful.

joelbear - i think u r right. so much depends on who was there.

I think spoons was one of the best "get-together" games ever. But then, I guess the version we used to play could have been called TACKLE-spoons. hehe. We also used to play football and soccer.

The main thing I hated about many get-togethers more recently was the "dresscode" and having to wear meeting clothes to avoid offending anyone. It just reeked (sp?) of "politics" and putting on an act. I resented not just being able to wear jeans or whatever was comfy for me.

i explored a few options as i was coming out of the organization.

nominal christianity had no appeal except that it was without the policing and punishment of the jw's.

there was no open discussion still and i didn't agree with most of it.

well, according to the people in my hall, us "sisters" are pretty damn helpless.

our hall is being remodelded, so last night during the announcements, the brother said, "we need as many brothers as we can get to help with doing the work this weekend..." then he has the sheer audacity to say, "and we will also need some sisters to clean up the mess afterwards.
