We don't know that for sure, however all of Genesis was written by the same person, and the stuff later on in Genesis can be proven by lineage and its references in the rest of the bible. These mythological stories however are just that, stories. BTW I'm not going to get into a debate on whether the Bible is really the word of God or not. Everyone has their own opinions of things...you have yours and I have mine.

Was Eve really Adam's first woman?
by Shimmer ini checked out this really cool book from the library called don't know much about the bible.
it talks about a hebrew legend recorded in the medieval alphabet of ben sira regarding a lilith who was adam's first wife, who preceded eve.
in this version, lilith is created from the earth, as adam was.

of course not all the bible can be taken literally...but the names and events can be proven by historical fact. Lilith is just taken out of a myth...she's most likely as real as Hercules and Jupiter.

hrmm...this would have some interesting other things it affects...such as problems in paradise before satan even came into the picture and the whole original sin idea...I'm not sure if I'd trust mythology as a basis for my beliefs though.

You must have misunderstood me. My point was that my *opinion* is that to me, it really makes no difference. If there in fact existed this Lilith, it doesn't change my beliefs about the bible at all. Maybe for some people it does. You also took my quote out of context, since you can clearly see that i said "works that don't lend themselves to that kind of criticism." I've read several papers done on feminist criticism against certain works, and I've found them to be very good...HOWEVER, with every other literary criticism out there (historic, deconstructionism, allegorical) there's only so many things you can apply it to. For instance: a boy writes a story about a dog walking to McDonalds. Would it be appropriate to apply feminist, deconstructive, or allegorical criticism to this? No. I made no judgements in my post regarding whether i thought it was proper to apply this to the bible, since I don't know all the evidence. I think you're the one who is getting all worked up about it and not reading carefully..

well, we all knew there was only one place left for feminists to rear their feminist heads into. I don't see how incredibly important it is...just as I don't see much importance in applying a feminist literary criticism to works that don't lend themselves to that kind of criticism. It doesn't matter to me whether it's true or not...it doesn't change anything.

No windows on Kingdom Halls?
by just_a_girl ini just read a post on another site i belong to (non-jw related) where a person asked if anyone knew why jws do not have windows on their kingdom halls.
a few other people responded saying that they had noticed the same thing, that they thought it was b/c the jws believe that windows are just an adornment, hence a distraction?.
in my 20+ years of being a jw and attending quick builds, i never noticed this ... it never even dawned on me ... and now that i try to think back, i can't remember there being any windows at the khs i attended?.

I wasn't trying to say that the only reason they do it is for safety. Of course there's obvious building and insurance savings by not having any windows.
As for about having 200 people in a hall...have you ever been to one of em? haha it just feels a little strange...there's one with over 200 people in Seaford, DE. I could only guess because it seems more personal that way...and the less people in each hall, the less the elders have to do. Usually when they have too many people for one hall, they split it up into different sections. We had a French section, and North and South sharing our hall. There might also be structural reasons why as well and things related to that with cost and everything.

AM: there was at least 5 halls in the area directly surrounding Salisbury, Maryland all had bomb threats taped to the door. We had to have 2 brothers check everyone who walked in, and we would not allow any one to enter after the meeting started. We locked the doors. We had security systems set up in the halls. So don't tell me you know better, because 1) You weren't there, and 2) you weren't even a JW to begin with!

And you would know this AM because....?
Were you there when our halls got bomb threats?
Were you there when a carton of eggs were thrown against the front door of the hall?
You have absolutely no evidence to back up your claim that "vandalism is a lame excuse"...and you most certainly can't try to back it up by comparing JWs to other religions. dubs are hated more than other religions because they're the ones that come to people's doors bugging them about religion every two weeks.

Who's Greg Stafford
by Room 215 indoes anyone know greg personally?.
i'm intrigued by the comments made regarding the recent release of his dissertations, and can't help but adimre him for the nobility of his intent.
it seems to me he's a victim of the delusion that the beliefs of jws are intellectually defensible and can withstand the test of empiricism and hard, objective scrutiny.. i can't help but wonder how he's regarded by his peers in the local congregation, the local elders ad circuit overseer whether he holds any jw office (elder, ministerial servant, etc), whether he gives lectures, parts on the meeting, etc.

I meant stupid as in lacking a great deal of intelligence/knowledge. You skipped over all my points and tried to make a big deal out of a play on words, and your first sentence just discredited your previous argument about jobs. And what's this Yeshua jibba jabba? You believe in UFOs and all kinds of other nutsy stuff so who knows. I can't reason with people whose minds aren't on the same planet as the rest of us.
