reading AWAKE! for a year was equal to 4 years college at university!!
Yeah the college for the brainwashed insane.
i am currently doing some research on the early days and struck a few obstacles for which i need some help from anybody.. 1)russell predicted several times the "rapture of the saints".
this meant a visible return of those saints and that russell & co would rise to heaven.
when they failed to return visibly it was concluded that it did happen but invisible.

there are times when ilook back fondly on my days in the witnesses, especially when i think on the congregation get togethers we would have every once in awhile (not too often) people from our hall and sometimes others would show up (not too many) and good times were had by all.
this is how the schedule usually went.. 8pm: arrive at the community centre.
8:05pm: scope the room.
I miss naptime on Sunday mornings and Tues & Thurs nights.
...of the wedge, and not just for the jws - although the jw might experience more rejection during door to door due to the fact they got featured on a major network during prime time - but for any other high control groups as well.. i can't imagine that it should be very difficult for the jw leadership to effectively spin it so that there won't be much in the way of immediate problems coming from within the organization, but just as with the r.c.
's, once a few start coming forward they can empower others to do the same until the little trickle they once were able to manage becomes a torrent that forces them to come to terms with the problem.
jrig
My parents (who are practicing JW) missed the airing due to a meeting. However they really wanted to see it and I know for a fact in their congregation they are passing a copy of the airing to all who are interested (you know...so they can defend themselves door-to-door), but I think it may backfire on them if it hits home to anyone. I also think that theirs is not the only congregation doing this. What they think is going to help them will probably cause their own downfall (religiously speaking that is).
what is everyone's favorite movie?.

dubs are always looking for an angle to make money.their probably no worse than anybody else, but they do like to preach against materialism while chasing the illusive dollar.alot of times its some form of pyramid scheme.amway for one,or the triple charge system(owned and operated by some dubs from califonia)then theres the out and out pyramid scheme.you bring in people who give the pyramid $500.00,after bringing in so many people the guy at the top get`s a $17,000.00 payout, and is free to start again at the bottem of the pyramid.i`ve known a few dubs who have collected their 17grand.the pyramid eventually burns out,and the people at the bottem are left holding the bag(no payout).they lose the money they couldn`t afford to spend to begin with.there are some dubs though, that make a good living at this.what are some of the get rich schemes you`ve witnessed(pun intended)in dubland?...outlaw
My parents were both into Shakley and Amway.....I see a pattern developing. Scary!
this matter has been on my mind for a while and i just know that sparks are going to fly for some.. its not that i dont think that the bible has good moral/ethical values but its more on how much it is relied upon as nonfiction.
personally, i think of it as a more revered version of "aesop's tales" or "the canterbury tales".
a book written by the earliest known psychiatrists (ok so this is going out on a limb but you get the gist) to teach the general population how to behave.

Personally, I think of it as a more revered version of "Aesop's Tales" or "The Canterbury Tales". A book written by the earliest known psychiatrists (ok so this is going out on a limb but you get the gist) to teach the general population how to behave. Now the easiest way to get someone to behave is to threaten them with something they don't want or don't want to lose. In this case it would be our life or angering the "entity" that gave us life and would therefore punish us.
Ok now for the fun fun part - my biggest issues with proving that although its a very well intentioned book I cannot put blind faith in it.
I have a problem with how a perfect being can make a mistake...yes I am going straight to Genesis starring good ol Adam. If he was a perfect being then how could he have made even one mistake. That right there would take away all credibility of such absolute perfection that he is known for. And yes all you have to do is look up the word perfect and there it is. After this watch the WT try to sue Websters dictionary for being heretics.
Does anybody have any rebuttal - my faith (or lack thereof) hangs in the balance.
well its just about time to begin my summer caning....uh sorry wrong thread...i mean canning...heheh last time i did peaches with habanero peppers, butter pickles, and spicy dill w/red bell peppers.
i was hoping some of you folks might can as well and would have some new ideas for me.
would really like ideas from all the lovely worldwide apostacooks .
"drunken apples", now that sounds yummy. Maybe I just like the name. Please forward that recipe if its as yummy as I imagine it to be.
i think in a way the wt along with the elders are molesters themselves.
think of the simularities.
first...this is the definition, courtesy of webster, of molest - "to bother, annoy, or persecute: to accost sexually".
I think in a way the WT along with the elders are molesters themselves. Think of the simularities.
First...this is the definition, courtesy of Webster, of molest - "To bother, annoy, or persecute: to accost sexually". Now lets dissect the definition. "To annoy" - which means to bother, irritate, and slightly anger. Hmmmm, I would say first that going unwelcome to peoples homes, and telling themn that they are going to be detroyed if they dont accept Jehovah into their hearts and practice and believe and become mindless sheep, is definately annoying and bothersome and has proven to cause anger. Ok thats two down how about the next one - to persecute. I looked that one up also just so I could be impartial. It measn to harrass or annoy persistently or to oppress because of one's religion, beliefs etc. Since I have already proven the annoy part - I have no problem with the annoy persistently (ie going door-to-door every day even to some of the same places). Now my favorite part (I have been sooo sick of all JW and their being persecuted so here it is)...when you judge another whether it be a family member, another parrisioner, or a stranger because they dont believe the same that is persecution. I remember when I was young and wasn't allowed to play with a "worldy" friend from school beacuse they weren't of the same faith. It never made sense to me because I thought we were supposed to love all brothers. It hit me with such hypocrisy that thats when I think I first started really wondering about the JW's.
The last part of the definition was to accost sexually. I will first admit that I in no way know all legal terms but as far I was aware you are an accessory to a crime if you help cover it up. That would make the elders, the congregations, and the WT a sexual predator as well in my opinion.
Now to actually explain my subject matter (hope you're still with me). One of the largest reasons sexual crimes are committed is to prove that the predator is stronger and has more power over the victim. Now you look at the WT and all I see are men in high places that are drunk on a very large power trip. I can only hope that they along with the rapists, molesters, pedophiles, and other deviants are brought down to justice for their crimes seen and unseen.
Sorry to rant and rave so much but this whole topic has never set well with me and I'm glad to finally have a place to let out steam.
i just read the posting about the definition of apostate.
the new oxford american dictionary defines the word as: a person who renounces a religious or political belief or principal.
that is it period.
Takes me back to my younger years when my mother attempted to prove I was possessed. They even had a group of elders come to our home. By that time I figured i would give them a good show. Hopefully they got the message. I say you should have fun with it....maybe dress up as a little devil or something. (I've noticed they have more fun with trying to prove something that isn't rather than just accepting face value) Or my "wordly" friends at highschool often recommended coming to the door with a red colored knife and asking if they would like to participate with their next sacrifice. I always got chuckles and wondered if it worked. Maybe you'll let me know. In the meantime just think - Is their warped opinion of you really worth all that much.
it was very hard growing up as a jw in my teen years.
i used to put all my feelings and thoughts down with the intention that if they helped just one person then it was worth it.
funny thing is, is that i helped myself to start working through many of the issues i would end up confronting (along with more to come in the future).

"Belief Hierarchy"
Unconventionalistic views
Written in prose
Complicate your system
Belive to impose
Frightened of change
Chaotic organization
Judgemental conclusion
Or higher realization
Tempted to run
Bliss in naivity
But you faith has become
Crumbled in quality
Representing the fears
Of truths shattered
Disclosing the reality
Of what really mattered
It wasnt my ideas
Proved weak or string
But the fact I represented
That you might be wrong
(I hope this will help someone get through another night - just like it got me though so many years)
