They want my kids
by Sadie5 inran into some jws today.
was out to lunch at a restaurant with 2 of my kids.

For years they haven't been to my door. I think I was on the "Do Not Call List" (the only good thing the JWs ever invented, BTW). One day I saw one of their tracts on the counter, so I asked how it got there. My husband said some women stopped by that day and gave it to him. I was furious! Not at him, because he didn't know who they were. I was furious with them for speaking to my husband. I almost called up the local KH (it was a Thursday night) to tell them to keep their tarts away from my house and quit trying to steal my husband. Eventually calm reason prevailed and I didn't make the call. Since then, I have learned that they stop by occasionally while I'm at work. So now I figure it's open season. They won't quit trying to recruit my husband (at the home of a known DA person), so I figure that it's certainly fair for me to try to decruit the rest of my family from their cult.

Sept 11 2002 - Free Flight On Spirit Airlines
by The_Bad_Seed ini thought it was a noble gesture... .
fort lauderdale, fla. (august 7, 2002 12:01 a.m. edt) - spirit airlines announced tuesday that all its flights on sept. 11 will be free, saying the offer is a response to travelers' reluctance to fly on the anniversary of the terrorist attacks.
calling it "a day of freedom to travel," spirit ceo jacob schorr said, "the sky should be full of americans on that day.

Oh, they'll have so much fun there! Like a D'strict Convention, it's referred to as the happiest place on Earth, only this time it's true.

Imagine the congre. if all of us were in it...omg
by LyinEyes inwild turkey and i love to sit around and talk about all the crazy things we hear some have done while they were witnesses in their local kingdom halls.
we are the type who love to laugh and have a good time.
we pulled many antics ourselves at our hall.

I used to play "Do this" with my cousins, nieces, and nephews across the arena. It was basically a Simon Says (no offense Simon) type of game where we would fold our arms, rub our nose, tug our ear, etc. It helped pass the time during the boring boring keynote address (a.k.a. the monotone monologue).
I also watched people through the binoculars we brought for the dramas. It was kinda fun spying on others.
The Deaf section was also interesting to watch. I actually started to learn some signs. Laughed out loud when Pharoah's armies were drowning in the Red Sea and the interpreters mimed going under three times!
At the hall, I drew captions on the illustrations in the Wt. and showed them to my friends.
When I was very young the big thing was to go around behind the hall where there was no parental supervision. Once I yelled "Rattlesnake" and scared all of the younger kids back there. It was actually only Tom, the POs old farm cat, out in the tall dry grass.
Playing between the seats after the meeting was also fun.
Also at the assemblies, getting excused by my parents to go to the bathroom and then going to the farthest one I could. Once at the King Dome it was all the way over on the third level of the KingDome and on the opposite side! Cutting under the bleachers was fun too! Never knew what you might see or find.

I thought this was a pretty cool thing for them to do. But now I have another question. Are JWs allowed to fly on an airline named Spirit? Sounds too much like demonism and all that Halloween stuff.

I don't know if this means anything to this discussion or not, but I will volunteer that 9 years ago, prior to DAing myself, I was in therapy and took the MMPI. This is the Minnesota Multi-phasic Personality Inventory. The results of my test was that I was ABNORMAL! Shocked the hell out of me. I imagined myself to be mentally healthy other than bouts of serious depression. I was in the 10% of the population considered to be mentally disturbed. I was not schizophrenic or psychotic, but I was definitely paranoid. My doctor felt that a lot of my paranoia was situational. We worked on that and the depression a lot. I still get depressed, but try to recognize feelings of paranoia when they occur and use a lot of self talk to help me realize that the whole world is not out to get me!
There are tribes in New Guinea that don't even know about me.

Is Mutual Respect Possible?
by Sociologist inone of the most striking things about this and similar message boards concerning jehovah's witnesses is the strength of feeling jw-related discussions evoke.
as i dabble in sociology, i was wondering what you all thought about the following questions.
my objective is not to criticize persons belonging to other group but rather to attempt to grasp the dynamics of the conflicts at work here.. the questions:.

I don't believe a real professional sociologist would tell the people he's studying to "Get a life!" I'm not going to bother talking to this person any more.

There is an episode of Star Trek The Next Generation that this discussion reminds me of. It is called The Outcast and it focuses on the conditioning (brainwashing) of people to accept societal norms. IMHO, it was one of the best episodes of the series. I guess that was because I could relate to it on some level.

THANKS to Steve and Rachael
by Carmel ini just want to take the opportunity to thank steve and rachael (princess) for hosting an excellent party.
contrary to what may have been a false impression, though there was beer and wine for those who wanted, the gathering was not a "kegger" and teetotalers and children were both safe!.
my personal thanks and warmest regards to our wonderful hostess and host.

I want to thank them as well. It was a really enjoyable event, after I got over my initial nervousness (1st Apostafest jitters). It was very theraputic for me.
My husband enjoyed himself too, and he's never been a JW! He found plenty in common to talk about with the people there.
