I think they think that there is still chocolate pudding at the conventions. Once they find out they have to pack their own #$%&! lunch they will leave again.

Interestingly, while the book of Proverbs makes many comments about the parents' obligation to bring up their children the right way, it contains four times as much counsel for young ones to listen to and obey their parents.
Since when have they started weighting their doctrines by the number of times it is mentioned in scripture? In that case, there are arguably two scriptures by which the justify shunning. There is only one scripture about the two witness rule. By that rule, the showing of love and forgiveness among family members would take precedence, and the exposing of child molesters on the say so of the child would have been a matter of course.

complaint: negligence, breach of confidential relationship, intentional infliction of severe emotional distress.
once again the elders appointed a convicted and confessed child molester to a position of responsibility as an officer and ministerial servant of the congregation.
this time the accused name is jerry anderson crabb of the lancaster congregation of jehovah's witnesses - 4795 macleay road se, salem, or 97301. sadly, as one would expect, he has been accused of sexually abusing a child on multiple occasions.

carrot:milagros torres, 31, of camden, was one of 51 people who were baptized saturday.
This article is just the usual fluff piece about the convention. Even the newspaper doesn't expect anyone will read it seriously other than JWs. It is written as a PR piece so they can sell extra copies of newspapers to the convention goers, especially the ones from out of town. This in turn familiarizes people visiting that city with their advertisers; i.e.; and the merchants and businesses offering goods and services that the travelers might need.
It is interesting though how brainwashed people are so as to completely forget about 1975.

i wondered, since the jws claim that jesus is their teacher, what evidence do they have of jesus shunning "bad associations"?
it seems to me, from reading the bible, that the religious people of his day really gave him a hard time, because he actually spent the majority of his time with "bad associates", rather than shunning them.
thomas, though he followed jesus, wasn't totally convinced.
Disfellowshipping (shunning) serves to protect Jehovah's name.
Then why don't they do it with the child molesters? Instead, they cover it up to protect Jehovah's name. My brother had a relative through marriage who was accused of raping little girls, but because there was only one witness with a clear memory of the incident, nothing was done to him. The Watchtower directed the elders to cover it up and not to talk to the police. How does that protect Jehovah's name? When the truth comes out it makes Jehovah look like a fool to be mocked at best, and a god who tolerates the abuse of children at the worst.

True, there have been those in times past who predicted an "end to the world," even announcing a specific date. Some have gathered groups of people with them and fled to the hills or withdrawn into their houses waiting for the end. Yet, nothing happened. The "end" did not come. They were guilty of false prophesying. Why? What was missing?
Missing was the full measure of evidence required in fulfillment of Bible prophecy. Missing from such people were God's truths and evidence that he was guiding and using them.
Are they referring to Russell and Rutherford here?

i visited my jw son and daughter - who were raised in the faith - in may.
my son is 37 years old, intelligent and is a hard worker and a good provider for his family.
we were having breakfast when my daughter-in-law mentioned the ' lump' on my sons back.
In my family not just mental health professionals were a no-no. Medical doctors were also frowned upon. This was a holdover from the New World Society's attitude from many years back when she was a little girl.
My family came in around 1935. Aluminum was the devil's metal. Vaccinations that doctors wanted to give you and your children could cause them to take on different personalities. Blood transfusions were frowned upon and later banned, and transplants, when they came along, were also a no-no.
Today, some doctors prescribe medicine but respect the patient's choice to supplement that treatment with vitamins. Back then medical doctors disagreed with the herb and vitamin course, which put them at odds with what the Golden Age said.
The New World Society at one time stressed Miracle Wheat as the best way to health. Doctor's didn't put much stock in that. Doctors were also scientists, so their opinions often clashed with Watchtower dogma. And most JWs thought they knew more than doctors because of their education from the pages of the Golden Age/Awake!
Doctors were distrusted. Ben Casey and Marcus Welby were what doctors should be like, but instead the reality was that the medical associations were considered the puppets of Satan just as religious clergy.
So when you consider the history of the New World Society and look at it in this context, you can see why some of the older JW families might still be distrustful of doctors. When a serious medical issue does come along, that and the tendency for them to play ostrich and put their head in the sand can result in avoiding doctors.
