About A Boy..
by Englishman injust seen it with hl.
she thought it was wonderful, i would rate it a 6 on a scale of 1 to 10.. hugh grant was excellent, great to see him having a stab at something other than a stammering upper class twit.
he plays the part of a single man who reckons that the easiest conquests are single mums, so he pretends to be a single dad so as to worm his way into their affections.

Yes it was a pretty enjoyable feel good type movie. The big thing which let it down in my view was the casting of the boy. He was just a crap actor - or at least not good enough for a joint lead role. I'll give it a 7 and a half

Our first birthday party!
by Simon inwe've just got back from the whacky-warehouse playbarn / pub where we had liam's birthday party (5) with all of his class.. lot's of fun for all the kids, liam was bit overwhelmed with the attention but enjoyed it (esp.
the presents that he's just been opening).. ah, it's great to be normal and see the kids joining in .
btw: no righteous servants of the most high god jehovah were beheaded or otherwise harmed as part of this event.

Glad you had a great time Simon - yes it is a wonderful thing to be normal. For ones that never celebrated birthdays as a kid, I think we can get so much vicarious enjoyment through the pleasure such events hold for our children. I think such events must be quite healing. Birthdays for kids and parents can be such joyous moments to savour - to think witnesses withhold them for being idolatrous - it seems completely absurd to me now but even as as a witness I never quite bought their reasons for not celebrating. Hell - did anyone in their heart really buy their explaination? I used it so many times as a kid and always felt embarrassed at how weak it was.
Have a great day. -

UK & IRELAND MAP
by ballistic ini had an idea that i could build a uk map of everyones location which would show you instantly who is in your area from jwd.. (it might be an idea to do a seperate us one aswell but i'll wait and see if this one takes off first, or if anyone from the us wants to volunteer to do that one).
(and australia but you are all in the same backyard anyway - literally!!!).
anyway, all you have to do is post or email me your username and town and i will draw you on the map above which will change gradually to include everyone!.

Big Brother - UK Style
by KenUK inwell here we go in the uk - big brother for the next 64 days.... but here i was watching "have i got news for you", the slaughtering of the presenter for being caught with his pants down etc in the wonderful sunday tabloid "news of the world" last weekend, when the 'phone rings.... my ex-wife, (conversation once a year etc etc), on the telephone, saying look at big brother , its spencer... and yes as i turned over... it was spencer... bear with me guys:-).
now i can see spencer knocking on doors and giving talks not many moons ago, prior to and after my d/f... yup, big brother's got (to the best of my knowledge) its first ex jw.... interesting watching (and i enjoy big brother as much as eastenders and corrie...) guess i'll watch now:-).
(spencer, eldest of 3 jw children (surname witheld by me), parents still in the "truth", and regular drinking partners of myself and ex a few years back whilst in the same cong and still only a few miles away..)

Thats a coincidence because the black guy in Big Brother from last year - was it Dean - made a comment about growing up as a witness as well. Wanna watch it but I made a decision a few weeks ago to give up television. I feel so out of touch already.

I just wanted to say how much I always enjoy your posts. Of course it is more pleasant to be deluded into believing that the witnesses will crumble, but you present a more realistic alternative - it is frustrating to believe they will continue - morphing just gradually enough that people forget and accept the new and improved but presented with a plan as you have put forward, I believe it all to well. -

Just Saw StarWars Episode II
by Reborn2002 inonly one word is sufficient to describe this film =.
it is not religious persecution for an informed person to expose publicly a certain religion as being false, thus allowing persons to see the difference between false religion and true religion.

I just saw it too - I am not sure my review would be quite so glowing. Don't get me wrong - it was a hell of a lot better than the last one. You did not feel like you wanted to cringe at every line of dialogue. There was some good scenes - battle scences, chase scenes etc that were pretty enjoyable. There was also quite long periods that were slow, plodding and very little happened. These really dragged the whole movie down in my opinion. Don't you remember the days when star wars movies were all wise cracks and zippedy zip. Now it seems to get too bogged down in politics. Didn't they explain the prescence of jar jar binks by saying its just a movie for kids. I can't see kids getting on all of that stuff. To me there was way too little structure to this movie. there were scences kind of put together and it often lacked cohenerance and pace which led to a lack of involvement. Except of course for the good bits - and don't get me wrong there were some. To me it seemed like these new films are so concious of having to explain what led up to the old films that they forget to add much new magic. Acting was much better though - god I love Natalie Portman and old Anni was pretty believable too. Thankfully Jar Jar was barely in it but even a moment seems too long. The whole romance thing seemed to take too long but Natalie Portman was looking particularly lovely in those bits so I forgive it for that.
The scenes when cgi mixed with live action sometimes looked a bit fake - I think Lucas likes to show off what he can do and it doesn't often work when it comes to the blend. Some lines used some very hard worn cliches and oh my god - the scene with yoda doing a light sabre fight has to be seen to be be believed - very funny.
On the whole though - not a touch on the old movies but it was kind of fun at times and a big improvement on the last one.
