I read tarot also, though I haven't practiced in awhile... I used to do readings for strangers, like 1 or 2 a month. It always worked; the difficult thing IMO is to read for myself.

Something Different From Me
by Farkel innote: all single apostrophes have been deleted by simon's software from this word document i just pasted here.. .
one of the problems with any discussion board is that it doesnt allow us much of an opportunity to show other dimensions of ourselves.
my great passion is and has always been serious music.

I'm looking forward to hearing your stuff, Farkel! I've forgotten most of the names of pieces I liked, but I used to be quite the classical fan. Flight of the Bumblebee is awesome, also anything by Liszt. Curious: Do you play Pachelbel's Canon, or Eine Klein Nachtmusik (forgot the composer here)?

Quantum / See ExMormon Board
by Amazing inokay quantum: before we do battle with your so-called 'evidence' which are nothing more then unproven assertions --- it is only fair that people here see the ex-mormon board, and except for the label differences, like borg (jw) vs morg (lds) and things like that ... it is like reading a parallel universe of the ex-jw boards ... and the problems with child molestation (i.e.
jeff anderson lawsuit against the mormon church in portland, oregon) and the abuse of women all sound like familiar themes ... and clearly give abundant evidence that the same symptoms must suggest the same causes .... check it out at: http://www.exmormon.org/boards/w-agora/w-agora.php3?site=exmobb&bn=exmobb_recovery.
one ex-mormon fellow has even complained how he was inappropriately touched during his ordination ceremony ... by another man who rubbed up against him with an erection.. such experiences do not address your assertions, and are not intended to ... rather, these and many other ex-mormon experiences suggest that even if the bom, d&c or jod were somewhat historical as is the bible, that mormonism is still seriously deficient ... lacking so much that it does not hold up to being a worthwhile group to participate in ... and .... while many ex-jws are quite capable of debating with you ... i have invited ex-mormons to register here and see if they will deal with you ... they are in a far better position to address your claims and assertions and raise strong and credible concerns ... whereas we ex-jws can sit back and watch and see where it goes.

Quantum, please don't be sad for me. You can see it as myself "not seeing it at all" and yourself as "having the heavens opened" to you, or you can see us as seeing things differently. I don't dispute that your religion is right for you; I just dispute that it is right for *everyone*. That assertion seems very arrogant and insecure to me! The fact that we see God differently doesn't mean that one of us doesn't see God.
There are over 6 billion people on earth now, and I'll wager that that means over 6 billion different personalities. Do you really think that God would reveal him/her/itself to everyone in exactly the same way?

The wailing wall of the Jews
by docpalo inrecently some hassidic jew who stands and rocks like a catatonic shizoprhenic at the wailing wall in jerusalem noticed some water stains up near the top of the wall.
immeadiately he summised this to be some holy sign of the messiah.
but the deputy director of public works says that it most likely is a ruptured pipe or drain.

The whole thing is up in the air at this point. Israel is occupying Palestinian territory to prevent terrorist attacks, and W is letting that happen, because at least on the surface, Israel has the right to self-defense. I'd agree with that, except that Israel has no real right to exist in the first place. Israel refuses to acknowledge the "right of return" for Arab refugees because it it would "unbalance" the ethnic makeup of the state... But isn't that what happened to the region in the first place, when the right of return for Jews was imposed upon the land? And if their right of return is valid, after 2000+ years of the land belonging to someone else, then why not make the right of return valid for those that the Jews conquered even more thousands of years ago (Arabs)? Or, see it this way: If Jews must be reinstated on their "patriarchal land" after 2000 years or so, then why not give all of America back to the Native Americans (who dwelt on this entire land less than 600 years ago)? They hardly suffered any less, so where's the logic here?
The whole thing is a quagmire. Let them duke it out and prove to themselves who's boss, IMO; no one's "right" to the land is supreme. And, SaintSatan, I don't expect Russia or China to attack Israel, or necessarily expect all the Arab nations around it to defeat it. But Europe isn't exactly pro-Israel these days, or pro-America for that matter. So I doubt that Israel will make a move. I think it is waiting for an Arab move so that it can retaliate with world opinion in full favor. But if that happens... It would be a lose-lose proposition for everyone. Potential World War III. I don't think anyone can say whose side Europe would be on in that battle; or if push comes to shove, China and Russa. They both have their own problems, and could seize upon any chance to increase their own share of the globe. I doubt that any sympathy for the founders of Communism, or suppliers of high-tech, would keep them from serving their own interests.
My whole point at the beginning was this: Leave Satan out of the friggin' equation. If you have a problem with Israel, that's understandable IMO. But too many enemies have already been made, and too many lives have already been lost, b/c of people crying "Satan worship!" when they didn't understand someone else's religion.

Over my ex-jw lifetime, I've had many Christian friends & co-workers tell me, "Oh! Well, you've never really been a Christian if you were a Jehovah's Witness! Come with me to my church! [Or, Believe in Jesus, etc.]"
The only time I've ever taken a friend up on this sort of challenge was with a Mormon I worked with in Oregon. He gave me the BOM for Christmas one year, along with a note saying that when he read it he knew it was true, and he just knew that if I read it I would see it the same way. Well, many here have posted that they continue to believe certain JW doctrines, such as the "soul" being mortal, etc. Well, I don't believe in the Bible as the Word of God anymore, but if I did, I'd feel the same way about many of those type of issues. And there is that scripture in Galatians (? I think ?) - something to the effect that, even if an angel presented to you some revelation that wasn't in harmony with the already accepted scriptures, you should reject it, because it wasn't from God at all but from the Devil.
Anyway, I started reading the BOM, and I stopped before I'd read 100 pages... It preached immortality of the soul, and a number of other things that seemed (no offense, but) kind of ridiculous to me in light of that particular scripture. I don't remember specifics at this point; just the impression that its *tone* was a lot like the Bible, but the dogma was a lot different. Sorry, Quantum, but if I was to be a Christian, I wouldn't be a Mormon. Not saying that your religion is from the Devil, cuz I don't believe in that either. I think all this dogma stuff is from men!
edited to add: I *did* ask God... s/he said, "I don't 'do' prophets!"

Along the lines of joy's post on Friends, I wanted to add my own 2 cents in praise of this board! To put it all in a nutshell, I learned how to *drink* when I was at Bethel, around late 89 to early 93. Was disfellowshipped sometime just before Thanksgiving 94, and have continued to be a heavy drinker ever since. About a month & a half ago I discovered this board, and last Sunday I quit drinking The wierd thing is that it was easy!!! I've tried before, during all the years that I was trying to blow off my borg past, but I can see now that I drank to drown myself in a fantasy world, trying to recover a lost childhood maybe, I dunno. At any rate, all credit for this breakthrough in my life goes to the people on this board. The more I read here, the better I feel, the more weight slips off my shoulders... I never knew anything about the UN debacle, the generation re-write, and so many other things that I've learned here in a very short time. Luckily, I joined this list just in time to hear about NBC Dateline, and getting to see that was a huge eye-opener as well.
For the past 8 years, every time I saw some variant of the phrase "peace and security" in the news, I beat myself to smithereens wondering if I should go back (too stubborn, thankfully)... But lately, with all the play this phrase has gotten over 9/11, the Middle East, etc, I barely even notice it; the evidence is so obvious to me now, that the WTS has no direct link to God, that it doesn't phase me anymore.
I quit drinking Sunday. Monday, I had such a fabulous day at work that people commented "Mike, you're in a really good mood today!" I feel better, I relate to people better, I work better, I enjoy my off-time more. My boss told me Monday that there may be an opportunity coming up that he'd want me to take advantage of, meaning more independence in the workplace as well as more money Tuesday was just fine, and then yesterday...! I had the best workday of my life! (I actually ended up drinking last night to celebrate, hehehehe, but it's not a trend anymore ) There was a technical glitch in our system that held up a bunch of orders on Tuesday; yesterday I got there and the printer had vomited them ALL out, so there was about 3 times our normal workload on the printer. To top it off, the guy who normally sorts those tickets, as well as some other odd jobs, turned out to not be coming in, cuz his wife was suddenly having a baby! So it fell on me... My boss said he'd help, and I said, "Actually, Chad, I'm really looking forward to the challenge! I can do it myself!" I worked my butt off, and caught up with the workload around halfway through the day. At the end of the day Chad told me that I "really stepped up to the plate today," and spread that around to the other supes & bosses... Part of all this is my own work ethic & natural ability, I know, but... I have to thank you all for helping me out of an 8 year "deep blue funk." I have the courage to truly face reality again, and I give huge props to Simon & his wacky pack of apostates for getting me over that hurdle.
with deep love, thanks, and admiration, Mike the SpiderMonkey
