When I was a kid, I asked my mom about life on other planets, and she asked the elders. She got back to me w/ an Awake article about it, quoting the scripture that says something like "to Jehovah the heavens belong, but the earth he has given to the sons of men." They applied that to mean that we're it; there's no other life out there except spirit creatures. Also, I've heard them say that, since any life "out there" would have to have been created by Jehovah, and since it would have to be intelligent life (otherwise what would be the point, in their view), there must not be any. Because our species' "challenge" is still going on, and therefore any other intelligent life would have to have been created before us, and therefore our challenge would be unnecessary. (If that other species had failed their test, then Jehovah wouldn't have created us until the challenge was settled, in which case our challenge would be unnecessary; he could point to the end result of that other one and another millenia-long challenge would be pointless... Ditto if they'd passed their test in the first place)...
Getting away from the religious mumbo-jumbo, I was very interested in the discovery of apparently recent erosion marks on Mars, which geologists & others said had to have come from running water coming up from underneath the ground... Anyone heard anything on this lately?
Also, on the meteorite(s?), I thought it'd been shown that the "fossil" marks there could have easily been made by non-life chemical processes... I'd rather believe that they are actual fossil impressions, but the last I heard was that this is unlikely... Please tell me if I'm wrong, because I would love to know about it if there's still an ongoing debate.
And finally, the "faces"... sigh. If I remember right, those were also disproved last time an observer craft took pictures of those sites; with greater clarity in modern tech, it turned out that the faces were caused by shadows of geological features And I *so* wanted them to be the remnants of a great Martian civilization... A Martian Sphinx if you will

I dont trust anyone!
by haujobbz in.
humans cant be trusted thats my attitude!!!!
i say this because its true, think about it takes years to get to know someone, maybe 10 years later you may say i really trust this person or persons, but all sudden those you thought you could trust do something to hurt you, betrayal, theft, backstabbing, assault, dishonesty, liar, deception, etc.even on here i dont really know any of you, all i do is just type and that suits me, you seem to be people of all walks of life some upset, confused, happy etc.but that doesnt mean what you say in your words reflects the "real you" .whether you belive in god or evolution etc it makes no difference we all have imperfect desires in us and give it the right moment and they may be unleashed, you may think im paranoid but "im not" i just dont have much trust for humans good or bad and i dont even trust myself sometimes.

What about children who are born deformed or diseased? Did they get a chance to 'act perfect'? The very fact that they have no control over such things such as genetics is in itself an aspect of human imperfection.
Prof, that assumes that the definition of "perfect" is "no genetic defects"... Like I said, my definition of "perfect" is "doing the best you can." Whether because of heredity, upbringing, or whatever, if you're not as smart as Einstein or as virtuous as Gandhi... As long as you're doing the best you can, then in what sense are you imperfect? Like I said, it's a perception game.

Does God Exist? He Sure Does
by comforter indoes god exist?
god is evidenced by his creation, his word, and the relationship that believers have with him.
sadly, i notice that a lot of former jws either do not believe in god or believe in some false god of the nations.

Amazing how people who can't deal with reality always have interesting jobs in their past life(s). Oh I know, you included peasants, but the real question is why you included anyone but peasants. That is by far the station in life of the overwhelming majority of people who have ever populated the earth. The others are so few it isn't really worth a mention.
The only glimpse I've ever had into past lives was a Tarot card reading, which used every card in the deck to highlight trends between lives... I didn't get any major details (IE "I was Napoleon, I see myself issuing orders to the cavalry at Waterloo" or whatever); rather I got the sense that my past few lives were much like my current one is: A "peasant" who is used to leaving people or things behind when they don't suit his/her current growth needs. I agree that the tendency is to romanticize, and imagine something exciting, like what we would see in a movie.
We chose not to know, thats the whole reason to have the the experience. Would you what to go to a movie if you knew everything that was going to happen in it? Or someone was sitting next to you telling you what was going to happen next? You chose no to remember the life, you have chosen for youself. There is plenty of time to review your life on the other side, where we spend most of our time anyway.
new boy, I agree in the sense that I think we are limitless spiritual beings. The only reason we have placed, or have had placed, limits on our experience, is so that we *can* experience physical reality as human beings. The point I was making is that I don't think it would make sense to be punished in the next life for something one did in the past. In other words, to be reborn as a chicken because you didn't make a good human. What would that teach you? Nothing, IMO... But to be reborn as a human with the same lesson to learn that you *didn't* learn last time; that would make sense I think... Rather than being punished or rewarded in the next life, I think that we are *growing* from one life to the next; or if we don't then we simply repeat the experience from a different angle.
It's all conjecture... That's what makes it so much fun

Sorry, but our desires are imperfect compared to what? I think humans are perfect; some don't realize they're perfect and so aren't acting like it. If you do the best you can, then how can you possibly fit the description of "imperfect?" It's all a perception game IMO.

Reborn, "stolen childhood" hits the nail right on the head. I've described it that way myself many a time... When I told my mom, who's still a dub, that that's what she helped do to me, she said that I "didn't have a good heart condition," and that that's why I didn't end up accepting it. Yes, folks, they're peaches, those Witnesses of Jehovah. Fine, upstanding citizens, happy, well-balanced, family-oriented, you name it. If you got a problem with it, then YOU must have a problem
