the following caption appeared opposite the paragraph porneia (quote: "porneia includes such acts as oral sex, anal sex, and masterbating another person") what can happen if we ignore warnings?.
now is it just me, but isn't the picture of the little boy trying to rescue his ball from out of a pond just a little weird?

avishai: The illustration is not twisted, if you would read the whole article you would see this. The point of the article was to be clean morally, saintly in Jehovah's eyes. The illustration was just that, an illustration to teach a point.
Now regarding your other post about covering up molestation. That is just your generalization. You might give me an example of a cover up and I can give one of that was not covered up. I know my brothers in Bethel and I trust them. I am loyal to Jehovah's organization. I know that you do not understand this and you will belittle me for it, but that will not change the fact that I trust completely in Jehovah and his power to erase all the heartache in this world.
eyeslice: I think your analysis is wrong. The point of the picture is that the little boy would get his clean clothes dirty. The boy would not drown in a puddle of mud. Even the illustration is explained in one of the paragraphs. The point was that we want to be saintly, as Jehovah is.

The point of that illustration was that although the little boy is not dirty yet by the puddle, by playing or being so close to it he is more likely to fall into that puddle of mud and get his nice clothes dirty.
It was applied to immorality, if you ignore the warnings and get close to immoral things you are more likely to fall into gross sin. One example given in the next few paragraphs dealt with viewing pornography. Although that in it self is not a gross sin, it is still dirty, and by watching you are more likely to fall into gross sin.
paedophiles like pictures of little boys reaching for balls....
It takes a paedophile to look at the innocent picture and come up with the above comment.
as most of you know i am a student.
well, thunder and i decided some extra income would be great so i decided to go back to my old (90's) temp agency.
thunder swung by the office to pick up an application for me.
Trying to the harm to two persons that you do not know for having biblical literature on their own desk is NOT cool.
i was wondering how this part of the bible can be taken seriously.
for thousand of years, it has been written down that satan will be thrown into the abyss along with his minions.
ok, so how incredibly stupid (is there even a limit?
You're forgetting one thing. Pride and stubborness can make many do things that are obviously stupid. Being that Satan was a perfect angel, he could not use the excuse that many use today. But thinking about your analysis, I am reminded of Iraq's former dictator Hussein. He knew he could never win a war against the US, but why did he keep at it? Because he was stupid? Maybe, but the reality is that the guy is smart, of course using his brains for evil instead of good. People are just blinded sometimes by their own pride and power, same thing has happened to our enemy, Satan.
i was always annoyed with my ex for using the words "pleasing to jehovah" to describe certain actions.
in actuality, he an his family (and i suspect others as well) seemed to be much more concerned with pleasing other witnesses or members of their congregations.
as an outsider, it seemed to me that they were always looking for "loopholes" to get by with certain practices, as if they thought they could trick jehovah or that he wouldn't notice so long as they were not reproved or disfellowshipped.. my ex sister-in-law regularly spent the night with her boyfriend or he with her.
Oh I see, you only want the viewpoint of those opposing Witnesses. Ok, I'll stay out of it then.

shotgun:
It does not surprise me that you generalize and exaggerate since you oppose Witnesses. Your general comment that elders may have a drinking problem is absurd and pure gossip. This is a typical tactic used by Satan and continues to use through people like you. If there is proof of wrongdoing, elders will not overlook the problem and immediately form a judicial committee to handle those cases. Many gossipers as yourself often do not know all the facts and reach incorrect conclusions. Many on this board give specific examples that cannot be verified, and yet it is often taken as facts. Are there some rotten apples inside some congregations? Of course, but eventually these leave or are taken care of as many on this board are excellent examples of these cleansed out.

worldlygirl:
You ask: My question is, how do they justify invoking the scripture saying not to associate with adulterers, fornicators, etc.... Where in that scripture does it say you can associate with such people until they are disfellowshipped? If they are trying to please Jehovah, wouldn't they want to follow the scripture even before they are directed to do so by the body of elders? Or, is Jehovah not really who they are trying to please?
I believe the specific example you are stating is the exception. Each Witness must be loyal to Jehovah and must keep his high standards of moral conduct. Some families because of their ties will try to get away with associating with family members although these might be fornicators, but Jehovah does not accept their disloyalty and will have to answer for their actions.
On some judicial cases handled by elders, these are prolonged because of lack of proof or because the wrongdoer is avoiding meeting with them, and if their Witness family still associates with them, then they are guilty by association.
what i cannot understand is why jw are so determined not to allow to transfuse blood.
it's anachronism!
the governing body has changed so many their doctrines, why cannot they change that?
blondie: what you say is true and when it comes down to fractions of fractions of blood cells, the Bible is not clear, so it's up to each Witness to decide based on their own conscience.
scully: your question is simple to answer: because the law on abstaining from blood was reissued during the 1st century by the apostles in Jerusalem, fat was not mentioned in their letter to the congregations.
runningman: although you quote correctly from the Mosaic Law, you are overlooking that the apostles in the 1st century gave the law of abstaining from blood to all Christians.
