As much as I love campaigns against Jehovah's Witnesses, what this guy did was inappropriate. I wish some former Witnesses were smarter than that.

by punkofnice inhttp://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/news/crime/peterborough-man-jailed-for-14-years-after-subjecting-young-boy-to-years-of-sexual-abuse-1-7715306.

Okay, maybe not yet.

Straight from the horse's mouth - Jehovah's Witnesses are mentally diseased
by evilApostate inmany of you may remember the july, 2011 study edition watchtower magazine which stated that, "apostates are mentally diseased" ( http://wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/2011524?q=mentally+diseased&p=par ).
to jehovah's witnesses, anyone who leaves "the truth" is an apostate.
the funny thing is that logically, anyone who teaches false doctrines is also an apostate.. according to the watchtower, anyone who listens to false teachers also classify as apostates (see http://wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/1200000309?q=false+teachers&p=par ).

That's not how the phrase "straight from the horse's mouth" is usually used, but... whatever. Anyway, you're not going to wake up any Witnesses by using such a valid and sound syllogism. They have a very interesting superpower straight from Krypton called "resistance to logic." Their usual tactics involve special pleading.

Do You Remember When JWs Relished Explaining Their Beliefs?
by minimus ini bet most witnesses could not explain their blood policy, their understanding of the slave, and even simple biblical doctrines....they are an embarrassment to any old timer..

And I assume that many of the Jehovah's Witnesses who watch the monthly episodes do so only because of guilt. I personally never had any desire to watch those as I always perceived them as boring. However, I had to watch some of the episodes because fellow believers constantly asked me if I've seen "the recent JW programming." Then, they kept asking me what I thought was the most interesting part. When I think back on it, it's strange that I used to consider this type of behaviour normal and friendly.

Got a sense of humor? Help!
by rebel8 innathan, outlaw.....all of you hilarious people...this means you!
i believe in humor as an effective way to bring attention to an important topic.
humor has made many people aware of the true nuttiness of the jw cult in the past (sign language masturbation video—went viral).. amazon allows humorous reviews and even showcases them.

Yeah... a bunch of old guys writing about menstruation. Bet some of them get off on that...
By the way, does the Watchtower still write material wherein all the responsibility regarding sexual appropriateness is still heaped on the girls/women? I can't exactly remember from the days (around a half a year ago) when I was attending meetings... In my congregation, whenever there was a lesson about this topic, it was mostly gender-neutral, I think, such as "marriage spouses can't have oral sex."

I wonder if this Jehovah's Witness is on this forum? But in any case, it's good to vent out :)
Well, anyway, I know how bad a tooth can hurt. Every one of us probably has had this experience. So sorry to hear that. It's one of the most painful things that can happen to you on a daily basis. I hope the time until your rescheduled appointment passes quickly.
By the way, whenever a tooth hurts, the hardest thing to do is to go to sleep... Hell, I already feel so sorry for you...

I'd be wondering why the hell the God of the Old Testament is completely different from the God of the New Testament... (bipolar disorder?)

Thanksgiving??
by HereIgo inwith thanksgiving around the corner, i thought it would be interesting to hear how you, your family or other jw's you knew handled/celebrated thanksgiving.
it seems to me that most jw's view it as harmless and unofficially celebrate it the day before or the day after the actual holiday.
growing up, my mother would host a dinner the day after thanksgiving and used the excuse " well the traditional food for the dinner is discounted at this time, might as well have a dinner".

Thanksgiving around the corner...? Wasn't it on October 10? A month ago?
Edit: Sorry, didn't know there was a different date for Thanksgiving in the USA...

contradictory statements?
by aboveusonlysky ini'm always interested to hear what a 'spokesman' for the organization has to say when newspapers report on child abuse issues.. for example the following statement was made in a recent guardian article.
a spokesman for the jehovah’s witnesses said: “we are in no position to, and neither would we wish to, force any victim of abuse to confront their attacker.”.
and this is straight from the shepherd the flock book -.

There was a letter a few months ago that updated these policies. Victims of sexual abuse no longer have to meet their abusers on Judicial Committees. It is possible that this is why this spokesman said that. He could mean that although victims in the past were forced to meet their abusers, they no longer have to today. They're basically like politicians, avoiding harmful (to them) information.

RUSSIA: Many meetings raided and evidence planted
by ZAPPA-ESQUE inraids on jehovah's witness premises now take place more than three times per month.
these raids on doctrinally pacifist* religious communities often involve many heavily armed and camouflaged officials, with the "discovery" of apparently planted banned "extremist" literature.
legal dissolution of communities can follow.. http://www.forum18.org/archive.php?article_id=2228.

Too bad they aren't doing it because of their shunning practices or child sexual abuse cases... Then, at least, the world would know they deserve it.
Having that said, I still feel a bit sad about those Jehovah's Witnesses that are innocent who'll get punished for nothing more than just being gullible and believing the Governing Body... But well... what can you do?
Although I still doubt Russia will get anywhere with that approach...
