Changing Careers: The difficult path to starting over.

i became employed with my current company after high school in 1995. i'm a manager and make decent income for the area i live ($65k).

it provides for the basic and some extra.

i have a wife and a daughter.

Go for it! My sister is a Director of Nursing in a large teaching hospital and she made a career change from speach therapy to nursing and has never regreted it. She makes very good money for a single female. A friend of hers just graduated from nursing school last year and I went to the pinning ceremony. What I found interesting, many of the people in the class were not young people but many were starting their second career. Nursing is a hard program and I think they like ones who have already been in other fields and are mature.

Is there a way you can continue to work and go to school at the same time? I know it is a very tough schedule once you get further into the program.

to give a little background, my parents are in their late 50s.

around a year ago, my elder dad got laid off from his job.

he worked as a auto mechanic making ok money.

Wow, that is very unbalanced thinking. They are about our age and I can't imagine turning down work if we didn't have any. I can't imagaine what he is trying to sell will bring in much money and in no time there will be nothing left to sell. He will have to face it soon I am afraid. I do like the suggestion that you talk to an elder. It must be painful to watch your parents make such terrible decisions when he was offered his old job back. The WTBTS won't care once they use up their money and have nothing, they will never help someone in need.

i have enjoyed reading your comments during the past four years.

deep down inside, i have always been agnostic.

the first few chapters in genesis are contradictory and differing.. no one has ever been able to answer my question: "why was satan ever created?".

Welcome Game1914over, I look forward to hearing more from you. Take things one day at a time and don't rush into anything. You will find that your feelings and thinking will change a lot during the next couple of years.

I decided after being out about 3 years that I still felt like they were looking over my shoulder and I was still angry about some things. I finally wrote a DA letter and it was the best thing I could have done. I got out my frustrations and told them what I thought of them. They may never read it but I wrote how I felt and I feel free now. I didn't do this the first three years for two reasons, one being I knew I needed time to heal and the second was because I did not want to play into the WTBTS hands but I knew I needed to do it for me. I also did not want my name associated with the cult and to be counted as one.

Hang in there you are in for a roller coaster ride but it does get better.

Trashed WT's found in Dr.s' waiting room Friday. Do you trash literature you find?

took the magazines in the waiting room and dumped them in the trash.

was a great feeling.

to think many witnoids wont dare throw out the surplus magazines they have in stacks around the house is amazing.

I have never found any at my doctors office or any other place I have been but I will take it home and trash it. My sister has a very high position in a hospital and she has a JW that works for her that she would like to fire because she does not do her job but she can't get rid of her at the moment. This lady has to keep one of the waiting rooms looking nice and my sister kept finding WT and Awakes all over it and finally told her she was not to put any out and if she saw patients put them out she was to throw them away. She had to tell her numerous times not to do it.

We were just starting our fade and our cleaning lady (we no longer have her because she is a JW) came by one Saturday and left us with the latest editions and my husband had a nice fire going in the fireplace and it felt so good to take those magazines and watch them burn. There is something very freeing about it.

What the recent court cases prove about the Governing Body

for years we have debated on this board about whether or not the governing body are truly wicked or just clueless.

these recent court cases have hammered home their true nature.

they are willfully evil, deliberately and recklessly endangering the lives of tiny innocent children.

I agree with what you posted but I also want to add that they are very arrogant men too. When I listened to the podcast done by Cedars and others and they interviewed Mr. Zalkin it really drove home how difficult they are to deal with. He saw them as more difficult than the Catholic Church in the child abuse matters.

This was a very interesting piece. I would like to see one of the major news outlets do a story like this but very little about the WTBTS comes out in the news media.

What Was Your Opinion of Elder's Wives?

i think that many of them were saints.

some were bitches and others seemed like they hated their status.

many wives were very good examples and were more "qualified" than their elder husbands.. .

He stepped down years ago because of the things he saw and many times they asked him to become one again and he would never do it. Thedog1, I do agree with you that for many if not most it defines who they are. Many of them do not have successful careers so without they are lost and I think this can also spill over to the wives. Women have no responsibilites in the org to speak of so for many they ride the status of their husbands.

They may have their little cartoons and can take IPads and other devices to the meetings but they still have to sit still and not talk and they have to waste their time going out in field service. They still can't play sports, clubs, activities, celebrate the holidays, go to college and other fun things. Not much has really changed when you look at the whole picture.
