Why pay for DOs when there are plenty of guys who will spy for free, and Bethelites that will do so at no extra charge, except for travel expenses to an assembly hall?

Whatever Happened to the District Overseers? Who Took Over their Responsibilities?
by Village Idiot inwhen i was in, during the 1970s, i would see circuit overseers twice a year.
i think there were two occasions when i saw a district overseer give a talk at the hall.
were eliminated as part of a streamlining process but who the hades has taken on their responsibilities?

Even without DOs there have to be ways to check up on the COs to make sure they toe the line. Of course the BOEs could always rat them out, if they were brave enough to contact Bethel directly.
Lately in my area there are several substitute COs. These are the overzealous guys who graduated from BSCC or SKE and make substitute visits to congregations on their own dime. They often tag along with the paid CO for "training". They could also rat out a wayward CO.
Then there are the representatives that are sent from Bethel to give talks at Circuit Assemblies. Of course they have to submit a written report about their spy trip, in which they can also report any missteps the CO might have taken, and of course would be quick to point out any failure to follow the countless rules to the letter.

Outcome - Banned in Russia - Final
by OrphanCrow ini just watched the live feed from the russian court room and followed the updates on the russian exjw forum.. just waiting for confirmation from other sources...but, it looks like the final (and expected) result is:.
banned.
which means that the wts property in russia now belongs to the russian state..

Sad to hear that the Russian court gave the tower more ammunition to abuse their followers with. Mark Sanderson can now leave his posh accommodations in Russia and go back to Warwick as a hero because he took one for the team.
In line with what wonderofyou just said, maybe he can suggest they re-write the Russian version of the Bible Teach book, to eliminate the clearly extremist language in it. They could take out the blood chapter and eliminate references to JW being the only true religion and only means to salvation.

2017 Special Conventions.
by ToesUp injw special conventions.
who's going?.
are you "special" enough to be chosen?.

Lusitano and DY, if you make it to a Special Convention, maybe you can tell the rest of us what you found to be special. I like your attitude DY, making the best of your situation.
The question was: Who's going? We know the GB are going, since everyone knows the are really special. Tony proved it in Helsinki last year when he went off the rails, reveling in how he will enjoy killing his share of the billions to be slaughtered at Armageddon.
Here are my guesses as to who will go where:
1) Vienna - I'm pretty sure Gerrit selected this one so he could assign himself to visit his homeland before he dies of old age.
2) Toronto - As above, Dave will enjoy visiting his home country, and reveling in the glory there.
3) Milan - I doubt Tony can miss the chance to check out the latest fashions on the young men there.
4) Djakarta - I suppose Geoff will work up the courage to get close to his homeland, while staying out of the jurisdiction of the Australian courts. He can probably authorize payment of travel expense for his friends and family to go this neighboring country.
5) Almaty - Since Mark has already worked up a 5 minute spiel in Russian, he can give it again in Kazakhstan, for the invited elite from neighboring Russia. Since he is the youngest, it might do double duty with the 8th city out.
6) Cluj anyone? I guess Mark gets this one too.
7) Bolivia - Can they keep Steve hidden there?
8) Madagascar - Does Sam want to deal with changing planes in Paris again?

These are the 8 designated party conventions for 2017. They are for those who know they are special and get to go expenses paid and for those who are willing pay dearly to feel special. They are guaranteed to be blessed with a visit from a GB member. Some will be featured on JWTV.
To emphasize the exclusivity, only certain countries are invited to each convention. The countries that get invited usually only get one choice. For example the Japanese can only go to Indonesia. But some get two choices, like Russians, who can choose Indonesia or Kazakhstan. Croatians can drive to Vienna or Milan. But Americans got invited to all 8 parties.

“Well…it was a test”, says a laid-off Bethelite
by My Name is of No Consequence ini got this account second hand.
a former bethelite was reassigned to a local congregation.
he had been at bethel for years and is now in his fifties.

There is a former Bethelite couple in my area undergoing a similar "test". They are in their 40s, so maybe not as desperate. The husband landed a job in my area, working for a "brother". It appears to be the opposite scenario to the one mentioned by longhairgirl. The Bethelite husband has a trade where he should be able to make good money. But his employer doesn't pay him enough to rent an apartment in this area. They have to live in a rented shed, with no kitchen. The wife has never worked to earn money and she's afraid she might have to give up pioneering, as her husband already has done.

JW.Org claims they have fullfilled Jesus command to preach in all the inhabited earth.Have they really done that ? I dont think so.
by smiddy inapart from the fact that they have mainly followed in the footsteps of christendom before them what virgin territories have they ever gone to that christendom before them has not gone to .
i would think none.. how many lands ,countrys ,are their that they have never made any significant inroads into ?.
we are not talking about token service in any of these countrys in major cities , but a real door to door witness to every individual householder that gets it every few months as in western lands.. some that i can think of : north korea ,mainland china , bangladesh ,india , pakistan , jordan , israel , iran , syria ,burma ( sorry cant think of the new name ).

Smiddy, good list of countries barely touched by WT propaganda. I might add Indonesia, a country of 256 million people, including 25 thousand JWs, about 1 in 10,000.
So what is WT going to do this year to jump start the preaching work there? Hold a Special Convention in Jakarta and invite special JWs to a party. They have invited people from Australia, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, the Russian Federation, Thailand, the US, and Vietnam Nam.
They did this kind favor for Taiwan last year, anther barely touched "land". -

Blonde, thanks for the insights. The quote from Arnie is priceless. WT published his audacious quote from when he was a very young man, something he wishes he could take back now that he is more mature. What Christian kindness and modesty to publish something the man regrets he even said.

BRITAIN ZONE VISIT - 18th March 2017
by Nicholaus Kopernicus ina. llewellyn – wt summary (“why modesty still matters”).
i won’t go into this much as an individual can read it for themselves and conclude as s(he) sees fit.
what i would say however, is that i remember llewellyn using phrases like “knowing your place in jehovah’s organisation” and “taking care not to act presumptuously”.

Nicholas, thanks for sharing your notes.
BB, you noted that in addition to giving an hour talk to the people subjected to the branch, the HQ heavy spends a week gathering info to report to the GB. Does anyone know exactly what they do for a week? I am curious as to what kind of interrogations are needed. Are they just checking to see that Branch managers are obedient?

The Finished Mystery 100 Years of BullSh$t Continues
by Buster k inhello everyone i wish everyone a good day and many good prayers to all.

The best thing about this book is that it resulted in the imprisonment of Judge Rutherford and his cronies. It's too bad that they did not serve out their full sentences.
The claim is made that it is the writings of Pastor Russell, but his will expressly forbade the writing of further books after his death. So the fact that it was published 9 months after his death shows how little respect the publishers had for their dead false prophet. Nobody seems to care what he wanted or the fact that he considered himself to be the one and only FDS. The publishers seem to be very willing to use the delusion of his followers to sell books.
I wish I had read this book decades ago. It is crazy. The craziest part to me is between page 64 and page 65, the illustrations showing the seven angels or messengers of Revelation. Russell claims to be the seventh Messenger, the Laodicean Meseenger. Then on page 65 he claims to be “the most prolific writer of Biblical Truth that ever lived”.
