Saturdays or Sundays either? Only one congregation went to our hall so our meeting was ALWAYS Sunday morning. So between school 5 days a week, FS on Saturday a.m. and the meeting on Sunday a.m., I never got to sleep in, except during the summer.

Ray - Chapman might ring a bell, but you know we would go to two meetings there a year, as we would visit for about a week at a time, each summer. :) There was a sister I used to spend time with when I was down there and now I can't even remember her name! Duh. I've been out for almost 10 years and I haven't visited down there for almost 11, so I have forgotten many of the names. I remember the Lisk family pretty well; my grandmother's last name is Cable.
**edited to add: my sister-in-law is from NB as well, from Bathurst. Last name was Thiel.

Worldly Music to Avoid
by Nosferatu ini remember, one of the songs i was told was a bad song, was bridge over troubled water.
apparently, it's about drug use.
what are some of the "worldly" songs you were advised to quit listening to that seemed harmless?edited by - nosferatu on 16 january 2003 13:39:50.

This is one I'd like to forget but thank goodness for a good friend, it could have been worse!
When I was 17, our Disctrict Convention was at Skydome in TO; going to Toronto was a treat because we actually got to stay in a hotel!! Normally we went to Ottawa for DCs so we would stay with family there. Anyways, my dad was in charge of the sound for the entire convention so I often got up earlier to go with him in the mornings on the subway, while my mom and little sister came along later. So it was early mornings; and on the Saturday night I stayed in a room with my best friend who was in the same hotel, and we got almost nooooo sleep.
The Monday morning following, I was at home in my parents' kitchen and I fainted, I would assume from fatigue. I should have spent the day at home resting but I got a call from my best friend to go in service that afternoon, and since I was auxiliary pioneering that summer, I decided to go. It helped that this guy I had a HUGE crush on was going as well.
Anyways, we got to a door and I started my presentation; turned to my Bible scripture and started reading it. Halfway the scripture, realized with horror that it had absolutely NOTHING to do with what was being featured in the magazines that week!! ACK. I was lost. My mind went blank and after an eternity (or a few seconds) of complete silence, I said to my crush, "I'm sorry, M____, would you like to go ahead?"
He took over for me and totally saved my sorry butt. :) Goodness knows what I'd have said to the householder if I hadn't had someone there who could do that. When we got back to the car, I just laid down in the back seat and rested and they took me home. Thank goodness I had already told my best friend what had happened that morning and she had the good sense to put an end to it.
And one time at a circuit assembly, I stood up for the final prayer and the sister behind me leaned forward and said, "Dear, you have some blood on the back of your skirt". I was wearing a cream-colored skirt. Wanted the floor to open up and swallow me.

Golden girl, (((HUGS))) I am very sorry for your husband's illness. It is great that you are still able to find some humour in a difficult situation.
Take care.

Who here is shunned by family?
by Brummie inremember the watchtower that asked "are jws a cult?
" and then listed things that cleared it of the accusations of being such?
cant remember the date.. anyway one of the things it said was that "cults" usually have a lot of ex members testifying against it and the damage it has caused to their family lives.

How would you react if you found out....
by Makena1 ina jw who formerly treated you badly when you were a dub, shunned and treated you even worse when you left - leaves the borg and is now a fellow ex-jw?.
has anyone ever had this happen to them?.
would you try to work out your differences?
-
starfish422
There are certain people in the Borg who did absolutely unforgivable things to me while I was in the Borg. After I left, all bets were off, as far as I'm concerned. With those people, if they were to leave and if they approached me somewhere, I would relish the opportunity to flip 'em the bird and walk away.
There are others, though, that I would still have contact now if they would allow it. If they were to leave and then contact me I would definitely be open to at least getting to know them again. And there are a very few whom I would accept, no questions asked. :)

Gosh, I wish I was still talking to my mother; I would LOVE to ruin Bridge over Troubled Water for her...she loves Simon & Garfunkel!! :D
I remember Ozzy Osbourne being mentioned specifically in the WT or Awake in the early 80s, after that stupid kid killed himself and his even more stupid father tried to blame poor Ozzy for it. The WTBTS just about peed their pants over that one.
In the mid 80s there was a sitcom on; don't remember now what it was called but it took place in a grocery store and the guy from Get Smart was in it. Anyways, after I had been enjoying it for a few months, I was informed by my mom that I could no longer watch it because one of the people was gay; not the character, mind you, the actor!! *roll eyes*
