A Marriage Made In Heaven?
by Englishman inher ladyship and i are absolutely delighted!
number 1 son and his charming lady have formerly announced their intention to marry in the coming year.. they've been visiting us for the last few days accompanied by my 6 month old grandson, charlie, a most cheerful and gurgly little boy who is guaranteed to bring an indulgent smile to anyone who catches his eye.. the wedding itself promises to be a truly grand affair with top hats and tails and god knows what else.
as for the venue of the wedding...wow!

Has anyone seen this movie? It's a few years old, early 1999. It has Bruce Willis, Denzel Washington and Annette Bening.
An attack on FBI headquarters brings a state of martial law to NYC; the military is called in to police the city. Arab-Americans are rounded up and confined to football fields until the attackers can be found.
At the time, I remember watching it and feeling that it was soooo far out there, such treatment of ethnic groups would never happen in America. (Granted I was a few years younger then too) In fact, I forgot almost completely about the movie for a couple of years; until events of the two or so years brought it back to my consciousness. I'm now struck by the realization that it no longer seems unfathomable, but rather entirely possible.
If anything, it's already happening; not just to a particular group, but thanks to the Patriot Act, it could happen to any American. Perhaps not in a literal sense of being rounded up into groups; but certainly in the sense of targeting certain ethnic groups for heightened surveillance.
Is anyone else scared by where this is heading? -

Well, I also agree wholeheartedly with the distinction between religion and spirituality; IMNSHO, I believe the two have little, if anything, to do with each other.
Jim, I liked that quote too.
Here's another one I like: "We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience."

JW Admits She Doesn't Want To Think!
by minimus inone of my wife's best friends talked to her yesterday about "the truth".
she wanted to know if they could get together to "talk".
after some conversation, my wife asked her if she thought all the "prophecies" in the isaiah book seemed reasonable.

I asked her if her conscience would allow her take hemoglobin. Her answer was "I do not know. I do not make those decisions."
Isn't that a telling statement; since the Borg loves say that certain matters are left up to an individual's Christian conscience; yet even on those matters, if your conscience steers you wrong, you're in the dog house. They don't even leave a simple thing such as a magazine presentation up to the individual to prepare for themselves; everything is spoon-fed to them. So for a Dub to say that they don't make decisions of conscience, is actually pretty accurate.

My poor non-JW grandmother!! (long)
by starfish422 ini am so annoyed right now i could just spit.
first, some background info: my brother's mother-in-law (a jw) seems to feel as though she has some special connection to my gramma because they have both lost their husbands.
she's a good 10 - 15 years younger than gramma; and, truth be told, gramma doesn't especially like her.

I mentioned the letter to my gramma this weekend at Thanksgiving, and she didn't object at all. She did say that she was going to mention it to my father to ask him to put a stop to it.
