Losing my child at my own hand, whether through shunning or denying them life-giving medical treatment? The very thought sends me into a panic.

The burden
by A Paduan in"my burden is light"
jws are asked to watch their children die rather than have a transfusion, and more commonly, shun them and speak to them no more.
are these burdens light?

Just lost our parents....
by 2escaped lifers inwell, the shunning begins.
we finally had "the" discussion with my parents, that we no longer consider ourselves jw's, and a little bit of why we felt that way.
of course, "dad the elder and po" and mom the pioneer dutifully informed us that not only will they be "loyal to the organization" and shun us completely, but that he would immediately let the other elders know, so that proper judicial action could be taken.. it was a heart wrenching discussion, with all of us, including my two young boys (9 and 10) all balling our eyes out.

Brandon, I'm very, very sorry about your parents' decision. Sounds *exactly* like what I went through ten years ago when I left as well. Do you have a support network outside of your family that you, your wife and sons can rely on? ((((HUGS))))
Take care.

What did you day dream about at assemblies?
by lastcall inas a kid i would try to pay attention, but i just couldn't hang in there.
if i didn't day dream i was going to go insane.. i used to create scenarios in my mind that i was a jw super hero.
i had a special costume that was partially made of "flubber" that would allow me to bounce all over the auditorium.

I usually was engrossed by the cute guys from other KH that I only got to see at assemblies and conventions. :)

My mommy is dying.... :(
by outnfree ini'm off to new york this morning.
i'm fortunate that my oldest daughter will drive with me, missing class to support her mom and possibly to say a final farewell to her grandma.. my mother has has two strokes this year, and, after the first one in may, told me that she felt like she was dying from the inside out.
she had another stroke at the end of august, and was eventually put in a nursing home.

Did You Ever Tell An Elder Off??? How Did It Feel???
by minimus insome comments here, suggest regret---that you were afraid of these simple men.
have you ever told an elder off?
what was the result?

Aside from the last visit I received from the elders, in which I told them (through my apartment building intercom, no less) not to return to my home, I haven't told any of them off.
I've been practicing what I might say, though, for ten years. Some day my opportunity will come. :)

How did you feel ?
by tazmaniac inok, i know this has already been posted directly and indirectly.
now that we are getting into the holiday season.
how did you feel the first time you set holiday decorations at your home.
-
starfish422
That is really sweet, Special K. :) I do that too, and I have lights on my tree that do twinkle and flash. I see my son's delight when the decorations are up (and the outdoor lights on all the houses too) and I wonder how my parents could have possibly denied us this wonder and beauty.
I rebel against the crass commercialism of the season but we do take the opportunity to get together with friends and family and just enjoy being together. :)

Maybe he was pissed off that you gave him a girl's name.

Worst song you've ever heard.
by FlyingHighNow inwhat is the worst song you've ever heard?
you know, the song that grated on your nerves and made you want to scream if you ever heard it again?
if it's a kingdom song please tell and please tell us what popular song you detested.

Well, the question was, which song do I hate more than any other? And that's it. I can't stand Meatloaf. What do you care whether I like him or not? My favourite group is Big Sugar; ever heard of 'em? Pick on them all you like; it won't bother me.
