Has your prayer life changed?
by poppers ini am wondering if or how your method of prayer has changed?
this question is for everyone, including never-been dubs (which i am).
what does prayer mean to you, not what others have told you it means.

Take a look at these beautiful winged creatures!
by scootergirl insome of you know that we live way out in the country, deep in the woods of northern mn.
one of the great things out here is the abundant wildlife that we see everyday.
last week we had a huge porcupine in the yard (which our four year old calls a hamster.....lol).

Hi ScooterGirl
How have you been? What a cool little fawn. Thanks for sharing that picture and of the mean old blue jays.
I am into cockatoos and I recently found this collection of pictures from a guy in Australia.
http://www.sampford.com.au/OurBirds.htm
This is a great site too. Anyone with cockatoos will appreciate this. Just log in and zoom around the room. You don't have to register or anything, just type in a name.

One prayer that works for you.
by Steve Lowry inadmittedly, this thread is for believers.
is there a prayer that when you pray it, you feel that it gets answered faithfully?
for example, maybe when you?re afraid you pray for courage and you?re given it.

As quoted by my mentor, a self acknowledged disseminator of holy writ:
Matt: 19:24 "It's easier for a camel to get through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to get money from heaven."

Moses did not write Pentatuch
by peacefulpete ini realize that most of us have neither the time nor interest for complex arguments about the bible.
so lets us this thread for posting examples of anachronisms obvious to anyone reading with an eye to see them.
i'll start with some rather glaring statements in the pentatuch that preclude moses as the author as is claimed by jew and xtian alike.

Number 12:3 (NWT) "And the man Moses was by far the meekest of all men who were on the surface of the ground."
And Moses wrote this? Vain and arrogant seem to be a better choice of words.

Wow does this thread hit home. Since I have a loyal JW wife who I care about, it makes it very difficult sometimes. It would be much easier to be on my own. She still has all her witness friends, most of whom are still friendly with me but that I can't be around socially. They have kind of let me slip away since I cut off social activities with them, but if I were to pursue any old friendships I believe they would then take some action against me. I have many non JW friends but not extremely close. I also have several DF'd or DA'd friends who I am much closer to but that I can't be around with my wife.
To be honest, I have found value in not having close friends. I see the non JW friends having disputes with their long time close friends and I really don't miss that. At this point, I'm not sure if I want to make the effort to have real close friends anymore. If my wife was with me things would be different but as they stand, I guess it's really not that bad.

I will not be surprised when the loyal JW's find a way to ignore this. My father accepts that they were a part of it, but thinks it's perfectly OK because they quit.
The only response to this insanity that makes any sense any more is:
Whatever you do Dad, don't drink the kool-aid.

Is it respectful to call God by name?
by woodland ini was just wondering what your views were about calling god jehovah.
i appreciate that there is scriptures that says to call on his name, but if i were to meet the queen or president bush it would grossly disrespectful to say hi there elizabeth or how you doing george.
if this is the case with mere men and women in positions of power, is it not imaginable to address god on first name terms?

When I read Ray Franz' take on this it really hit me. The way the word name is used in the bible it relates more to a reputation, as in "he has a good name". Of course, looking at it that way really changes the usage of the name Jehovah that the WTS is so proud of.

Interesting comment on the business suits for women. When my wife left for the meeting this morning that's what she had on. She hasn't worn one in quite a while. Now I'm going to have to keep an eye on her to see if her wardrobe is changing.

The absolute stupidity of Christianity
by logansrun inso often people here confuse just what the real evil is.
we think it is the theology and practices of the watchtower.

In my opinion, Christianity and it's belief that everyone is flawed and in need of a redeemer to make it to better afterlife is the root cause of many problems we have. I think when a person does not buy into that, life becomes more precious since you believe that's all you have and when it's over it's over. Could it be that even the unreligious criminal could be affected by upbringing in a Christian nation? I wonder if there are any statistics of the ratio of athiests to Christianity-reared prisoners. By the way Brad, you hit the nail on the head about being content. That's is the best description I have heard that aligns with my feelings.
