Didn't all the posts real carefully, but it seems you have alot of JW family. If so, I recommend DAing yourself mentally and fading. It may or may not work but I think it's better if you can avoid having the label.

For thirty three years we walked the same path...and now he's gone.
by Gill inmy little friend, is gone.
for thirty three years we walked, he flew actually and then when too old, he walked, but we walked the same path.
yesterday morning i found he had died in the night and now....well, now all the sadness is here.

(((((Gill)))))As a long time bird lover, I am in awe of your little friend. What great memories you will have when the pain subsides, which it will.
And I just love the story about his last evening.I know I will have such a hard time when my birds pass. I have reminders of them all over everything I own. I'm sure you do too.
I can feel your pain!

Note how Herculean myth resembles Jesus in many areas.
Hercules was born from a God (Zeus) and a mortal virgin mother (Alcmene). Similar to Herod who wanted to kill Jesus, Hera wanted to kill Hercules. Like Jesus, Hercules traveled the earth as a mortal helping mankind and performed miraculous deeds. Like Jesus who died and rose to heaven, Hercules died, rose to Mt. Olympus and became a god. Hercules was perhaps the most popular hero in Ancient Greece and Rome. They believed that he actually lived, told stories about him, worshiped him, and dedicated temples to him.
Likewise the 'evidence' of Hercules closely parallels that of Jesus. We have historical people like Hesiod and Plato who mention Hercules. Similar to the way the gospels tell a narrative story of Jesus, we also have the epic stories of Homer who depict the life of Hercules. Aesop tells stories and quotes the words of Hercules. Just as we have mention of Jesus in Josephus' Antiquities, so Josephus mentions Hercules in his 'Antiquities' (see 1.15, 8.5.3, 10.11.1). Just as Tacitus mentions a Crestus, he also mentions Hercules many times in his Annals. And most importantly, just as we have no artifacts, writings or eyewitnesses about Hercules, we also have nothing about Jesus. All information about Hercules and Jesus comes from stories, beliefs, and hearsay. Should we then believe in a historical Hercules, simply because ancient historians mention him and that we have stories and beliefs about him?
so what is your opinion? was there a historical Hercules or not? did he do any of his deeds or not? why or why not?(FYI, this was posted on another discussion board and not composed by myself, but I thought it was a thought provoking question I would like to see comments on)

Thanks Dave
I started it last night but was overwhelmed by it. Maybe I'm just getting old or maybe I am just not that bright, but some of the stuff the old man said I had to contemplate on for quite a while and I was still not sure I could comprehend it. Extremely thought provoking to say the least.

I looked under Kings County in NY, and put Watchtower under "company/full owner".
38 properties showed up. When you click on them click property details on the next page and you will see the assessed value.
And all tax free.
Just a side note, try typing in some celebrites name, you will be amazed what comes up.

Removing "God"
by startingover in.
with the continuing thiest-athiest debates that go one here, i have a question, mainly for believers.. as a believer in god, how does it make you feel when you hear about athiest michael newdow's efforts to have "in god we trust" removed from us currency?
i guess this question could include the 10 commandments being displayed on public building issue, or removing reference to god from the pledge of allegiance.

Jaffa, good point!
The last example was the "this generation" change. How come the only religion to completely misunderstand this scripture for many decades was 'Gods organisation'?

Tax the churches
by startingover ini came upon this letter to the editor in my morning newspaper:.
churches ought to be taxed like others.
after sept. 11, 2001, i think it was jerry falwell who said that it happened because people turned away from god.

I really like when stuff like this is sent in and published, because in a couple of days I will get to read the backlash.
One thing that stuck in my mind when I read it this morning...the name ORAL Roberts. Everytime I can't help but think about...oh never mind.

Multi-level marketing, will humans ever learn?
by free2beme ini have a great business idea for you, your going to need to invest a small amount and get your friends involved and within a year or less you should not even have to work at all and just sit back and let the money roll in.
heard it, done it and for god's sake will people stop falling prey to these things.
amway and quickstar are the same company!

I'm not familiar with Quixtar, but I have noticed that MLM's rely heavily on internal consumption. I have been self employed for most of my adult life, so maybe I saw things from a different angle, but I remember when I was introduced to Amway, it seemed to me they were making people feel important when in reality these same people were the ones that were buying the most product.
Like the guys in the informercials promoting real estate opportunities. I think they make most of their money from the infomercials, not real estate investing. There is always the desire to make quick money and I think MLM's just like infomercials have proved to be an effective way to market a product using that as incentive.
