With the continuing thiest-athiest debates that go one here, I have a question, mainly for believers.

As a believer in God, how does it make you feel when you hear about athiest Michael Newdow's efforts to have "In God We Trust" removed from US currency? I guess this question could include the 10 commandments being displayed on public building issue, or removing reference to God from the Pledge of Allegiance.

One guy asked why Jesus isn't on our money if the founding fathers were Christian.

Personally Politics and Religion should be seperate. Putting in God we trust on our money doesnt mean a thing to Jehovah. As far as the one nation under God part, God is not partial to any perticular nation.

I'm all for it. The American civil religion, as practiced by the politicians and their pet evangelists, shows no trust in any God I care to know.

That is an interesting thing to say considering that it is a JW belief that Jehovah is going to set up a Theocratic world government after His War of Armageddon destroys all the other world governments.

if this is a nation for the people and by the people than he is right that no god[s] need apply, however trying to introduce honesty into government is like trying to introduce it into religion....aint gunna happen.

I've talked to fundie christians about this and they like to say: "Why remove it? It's just a meaningless broad statement that carries no real weight".

That's when I say: "Ok, since it is meaningless and carries no weight you should have no problem if it's removed."

After that the fundie christian gets all upset and starts fussing about how it NEEDS to stay there.

"But I thought you just said that it was meaningless! Why all the fuss over something meaningless?"

The bottom line is this: Any fundie christian who claims that In God We Trust has no real weight or meaning, but still wants it on the money is LIEING to you.

I can't understand why a theist or Christian would give two hoots about any of this, one way or the other. Its not important.

In my opinion its the non believers who want this sort of thing on the agenda, for some reason.
