If a member of the GB was one of the high profile guests, I wonder what the JW's would think of that? -

45 Minute Bethel Video about Changes (downsizing) at Watchtower
by OnTheWayOut ini don't see this posted elsewhere, and i don't have the links besides this facebook one.. but here is a 45-minute long bethel talk about the changes at bethel including addressing the hard feelings of people who were given the axe.
basically, everything must change.
we gave remaining bethelites saturday off to do our bidding in "the field" and we give bethelites over 70 an extra day a week off (if you can find any such bethelites).

On the other thread, someone post this scripture, which I think says it all
James 1:17New International Version (NIV)
17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

“Even if this wasn’t the Truth, I need the structure.”
by Londo111 ini remember many years back a fellow ministerial servant saying this to me.
he felt that even if jehovah’s witnesses were not the only true religion, the regimented routine of meetings and field service and the strict rules and enforcement provided a beneficial structure for his life.
at the time i thought if this wasn’t “the truth”, i’d have no need for all that “structure”.

Great thread Londo! I too had a friend tell me something real close to that. At the time I was not prepared to answer but knew I did not feel that way. Now I would say something about implanted phobias etc. The scripture in 1 Cor 15 (thanks AboveUsOnlySky) would be used too.
I personally have never been happier than to be out from under the JW type of control, and I cannot imagine ever living like that again.

I've never seen anything like this before. Usually big companies liquidating use the auction method. It seems so strange for them to be selling one screwdriver at a time. -

Question about visiting bethel ... akward moment at the end
by nevaagain insince there a couple of ex-bethelites here, and a lot of people from the greater ny area who have probably visited the bethel in brooklyn and patterson many times, maybe they can shed some light into this curious question we (my wife and me) have for awhile.. so a couple of years ago, we happaned to be in the states and also went to visit the bethels in brooklyn and patterson.
we had the full package, what i mean is, not only we took the tour, but we also had someone to invite us for lunch.
while we wanted to enjoy our stay there, there was always a weird feeling being there.

I remember getting a yearbook in the mail before they were released from a Bethelite friend. I now think that was a allowed and the postage paid for by the org in an effort to get the Bethelite some extra funds via a green handshake. I'm sure this would be denied by the Bethelite. Anyone who served in Bethel care to comment on this? -

"If I wasn't born a JW, I would never have become one."
by OneEyedJoe ini've seen it mentioned by a few on the forum that at some point there was a realization that had they not been born a jw, they never would've converted no matter how many times the jws tried to study with them.
this was my experience too, and i'm wondering how universal it is for those that were born-in but eventually left.
i think i started having this thought (more specifically that if i were not born a jw, i would surely have become an atheist by now) in my late teens.

I vocalized this feeling many times as a born in with my history reaching back to 1910. I now realize i was a closet atheist for most of my life. Having conversations with my wife about it, she would say that I never developed a personal relationship with Jehovah. I didn't have a clue what that meant. Now I know why.
