I Want To Believe
Great post!!!
a naughty attention grabbing heading i admit - i'm sorry, just couldn't resist.
obviously we all know atheists and agnostics have nothing in common with psychopaths.
in fact i would hold that atheists and agnostics generally have better functioning consciences than religionists.
I Want To Believe
Great post!!!
hi everyone, i would like to introduce myself and tell my story.
from the standpoint of being one of jehovahs witnesses, my whole family is deeply involved as i was the 5th generation of witness and any children that my brothers or sister have will be the sixth generation.
as some of my brothers and sisters are grandparents, i guess that makes their grandchildren a potential 7th generation.
What a great story! Thanks so much for posting it. You came up with some excellent one liners that hit the nail on the head regarding the realities of the organization.
Very interesting about the 2.1 children thing...
this is not my own work, please note the author.. .

Thanks for the post. A friend who finally dissolved his unhappy marriage after 40 years told me his take on it. He said when they instituted the marriage thing people only lived 40 years...

Undercover,
If you are a Guess Who fan and if you ever get a chance to see Burton Cummings in concert, by all means go. He played nothing but Guess Who songs and did them perfect. And from the concert that I saw on TV last night, BTO does just as good a job.
Regarding Tal, I'm really enjoying reading what he wrote here. It's real easy to relate to what he went through for an ex-JW. I haven't seen 'Religulous" but I make plans on doing so now.
I'll try again.
Perhaps some of you know that Randy Bachman of Guess Who and Bachman Turner Overdrive fame was a Mormon. I recently saw his bandmate from the Guess Who, Burton Cummings in concert, and he related how the religion caused problems for the band. So tonight I was watching Bachman Turner Overdrive on TV and did a search on wiki to see what it had to say. It appears he has now left the Mormons for the same reasons many of us have left the JW's. His comments on Wiki, which for some reason I can't cut and paste in here, sounds so much like what an ex-JW would say.
I then did a search for info on his son Tal, who I read was raised a Mormon and served his 2 years as a missionary. I came across this website:
http://mormoncurtain.com/topic_talbachman_section1.html (If someone can make this clickable for me that would be great)
Very interestin...his comments about why people really leave the church and church resignation numbers. This was written back in 2005, and I had no idea the mormons were having the problems described. Makes me wonder if the WT has the same thing going on and they are cooking the numbers they reveal.
well, i went along to the memorial with mrs cedars.
it was my first since my "awakening" just less than a year ago.
apparently i made a lot of people happy by being there (even if it was only building up false hopes), the most important of which were my family.
