the delusion and hypocrisy runs deep.. he reminds the cult members not to speculate because they aren't supposed to know the day or the hour.

Concerning the "Hope" video, I will say it's very professional. But watching as the story played out, I was expecting the wayward brother to return as a prodigal somehow, and that did not happen. In fact, it seemed to me that what he did in leaving at a young age for reasons that made sense to him and pursuing a career was not condemned at all and cast with a negative light like it usually is. The fact he give his brother money indicated he was doing well unlike his factory working brother who was more concerned about spirituality, I can see young ones who may be on the fence thinking that way already picking up on that.

Also, does anyone else find it unusual to hear the term "need-greaters" used in something official like this?

45 Minute Bethel Video about Changes (downsizing) at Watchtower

i don't see this posted elsewhere, and i don't have the links besides this facebook one.. but here is a 45-minute long bethel talk about the changes at bethel including addressing the hard feelings of people who were given the axe.

basically, everything must change.

we gave remaining bethelites saturday off to do our bidding in "the field" and we give bethelites over 70 an extra day a week off (if you can find any such bethelites).

i remember many years back a fellow ministerial servant saying this to me.

he felt that even if jehovah’s witnesses were not the only true religion, the regimented routine of meetings and field service and the strict rules and enforcement provided a beneficial structure for his life.

at the time i thought if this wasn’t “the truth”, i’d have no need for all that “structure”.

Great thread Londo! I too had a friend tell me something real close to that. At the time I was not prepared to answer but knew I did not feel that way. Now I would say something about implanted phobias etc. The scripture in 1 Cor 15 (thanks AboveUsOnlySky) would be used too.

I personally have never been happier than to be out from under the JW type of control, and I cannot imagine ever living like that again.
